Reading has always been one of my favorite hobbies, even as a little girl. When I was a toddler, my parents would read stories to me over and over. I would hear them so often that I had the books memorized and could recite the story word by word.
My favorite genres are fantasy, paranormal, and contemporary romance. So of course that's what I'm inclined to write.
I have a husband, two young daughters, and a mini Australian Shepherd. I've lived in Tennessee the majority of my life and love the state.
I'm extremely addicted to caffeine and enjoy drinking coffee and lattes. I am so pleased that you stopped by my page! Please feel free to follow or contact me at the following pages -
Gotta love an enemies to lovers that will keep you entranced from beginning to end and that is just what Jen L Grey did with Ruthless Mate. I am ashamed to say this is my first dragon shifter book I have read, but it definitely won't be the last. I loved every minute of Ruthless Mate and can't wait to read the next book in the series. Straight from the start there was drama and it continued on through out the book, it kept you on the edge of your seat, waiting to see what was to come at each turn of the page. I really enjoyed reading the connection between Thorn and Everly, the connection could be felt through the pages. I cheered once they finally had their first kiss because *swoon*. I highly recommend Ruthless Mate, and can't wait to see where Thorn & Everly's journey takes them from here.
Jen’s books are my favorite, especially the urban fantasy romance that she writes. She manages to get so many things right that I like to see in urban fantasy romance (in the indie book community anyway) like good book covers, intriguing plots, dynamic characters, among others.
My first introduction to her books was Hidden Mate. After seeing the pretty book covers in the series, I just knew I had to go and buy the whole thing. And that’s when my whole adventure started with her stories started from there. I saw it on an ad from Amazon, and suddenly had an author who’s books I wanted to read all the time.
And after the last book series of hers that I hold in absolute awe, Shattered Wolf, it’s like nothing else compares. I don’t know what Jen was on, but it seemed like she injected a big dose of awesomeness into the last Shadow City book series and left it like that. To be honest, Shadow City: Silver Mate was one of the best book series in that verse, and the only one with actual quality.
Where was that energy with the other Shadow City books?! Okay, I’m going to be honest here, Shadow City: Dark Angel was actually really fun, and it had some good moments. So that’s one good book series, and Annie’s story in Shadow City: Demon Wolf was entertaining enough. Shadow City: Silver Mate though had EVERYTHING: plot, action, passionate romance, emotion, intense stakes, awesome fight scenes, and loads of EPIC.
So imagine my reaction when I read Jen’s new books. I wanted to be blown away, I wanted to love it. Alas, I didn’t quite feel a connection here. It recycles the same old plot lines, uses the same cheesy language, and has the same old themes.
Heroine who finds male sexy? Check.
Fated mates? Check.
Broody and forbidden attraction? Check.
What made Shattered Wolf work for me, was the characters. The action. The storyline. Everything was blended well together. Jewel and Killian had me wanting to flip the pages (specifically Jewel though), the fight scenes were awesome and kept me tuned in to the action, the romance was full of chemistry and emotion. Here? Not so much.
I read the whole trilogy as well, and I have to say that it’s just another bunch of conflicts and cheesy dialogue. On that note, I have to admit, I like Everly. She was given enough backstory to understand her character and motivations. The romance wasn’t that bad either. I had enough of a personality on Thorn to show that he wasn’t just some broody hot guy Everly liked.
The dragon shifter lore also was fun to read about. The romance had enough development to it to make me want to keep reading. I can still see evidence of Jen’s ability to make good characters and a good story. I just hope we get to see more of something like Moon Kissed , Hidden Mate, Fallen Mate, and Shattered Wolf. All of these books by Jen had the right amount of depth, readability, coolness, and epic detail that I love about her stories.
2 ⭐️ I do not understand the amount of high ratings of this book.
1. Instalove 🙄 and I mean instant 🙄 but not until the last 10% of the book 🙄 2. Cheesy romance 🧀 If you can call one day a romance 🙄 3. Cringy proclamations 😬🤮 4. Ummmm both dragon shifters are virgins and their first time is like THAT?!? 😳 No effing way. 5. Rushed ending 😑 6. Reads like it was written by a teenage girl 😖🤮
Maybe 2 ⭐️ is too generous 🤦🏻♀️ Definitely not continuing the series bc we all know what the outcome will be. It’s *fated* to end exactly the way we all know it will. 🙄
If you like doormats, this is the book for you…not only is she a doormat she is kind of dumb to believe that her stepfather wants her around…story states that she just finish her 4 year premed degree, and that she is 22 and her younger half siblings are 18. So you have been off to college for 4 years who has been raising your siblings that you promised your mom that you would…..sounds like your mom was doormat material as well.
Meh. I don't know if I'm just burnt out on fantasy or what but I just felt like this was run of the mill and nothing so far has really stood out as a great story.
it’s like a 3.5 but i’m making it as a 4 because i love it
first like 20% was abit shit ngl it’s fucken wierd to get used to the setting and how shit works because it’s like modern but they’re a secret race of dragons and it’s funky

the fact that you knew eachother for like idek how long and your professing your love is about weird (tbf you are dated mates so ig it makes sense and you were soulmates before she got turned, but that’s besides the point)

They're back. Jen L. Grey has jumped right back into the world of shifters with a dragon tale, Ruthless Mate is the first book in the Marked Dragon trilogy. An arranged marriage, fated mates, kidnappings, and more happen as brothers go head to head.
What did Jen do? All the relationships in this story start off as a hot mess. Everly is the mfc, she doesn't have any connections and refuses to get close to anyone because it goes wrong. She ends up in an arranged marriage with an a-hole, kidnapped by a jerk, and stuck with the enemy. Somehow she doesn't completely break down yes there were moments where I was smh at Ev but overall she held herself together. In an uneasy situation somehow Ev manages to forgive those who have wronged her and find a couple of connections.
The jerk that I mentioned is Thorn but he really isn't a jerk. He's most definitely broody but he's in a tough situation and made the best decision he could out of the only bad options. Don't get me wrong, he totally messed up and he knows it but he isn't a bad guy. There is certainly something between him and Everly from the beginning and it only grows more as the story goes on.
A promise to Everly's dying mother is what kicked off everything. Who knew one innocent promise to look after her siblings would change everything. Everly's stepdad has been acting squirrelly for years and I have a feeling things might not be through with him. This first book was establishing connections and set up the dragon world. I got an idea about what's going on but I would love more especially since they are blending in with the human world.
Ruthless Mate was a good read. Jen has gotten off to a great start with this dragon series, with all sorts of back history and complicated relationships. I don't have a clue where Jen will take readers in this series but I can't wait to find out.
It caught my attention quickly and kept me engaged the whole time! I’m ready for book 2 and throwing a temper tantrum that it’s not available until June 8, 2023!
I hadn't read any of Jen L. Greys books in a while and I forgot how good the stories suck you in. Great start, good characters, rough villains, solid 4* read. Looking forward to reading the next one.
The beginning of the story I was wondering id Ev would end up in drakes control. I did not see the kidnapping situation straight off. This tangent made the book more interesting.
Girl sacrifices herself for her sister and thrown in a world of dragons that she didn’t know existed. She is a political prisoner who ends up being a dragon herself and used as a pawn in a prisoner exchange.
I received an ARC for this book. Thorn has been in hiding for most of his life. Protecting his family is his priority. Everly wants to keep her promise to her Mother. That would involve sacrificing her own life. Thorn is a good guy. Everly is lonely. Their chemistry is hot. Can't wait for the next book.
Everly is just a college student with not the best stepdad who would do anything to protect her siblings. Things go a little crazy when she realizes dragons exist.
Love this, except for the cliffhanger! So much angst, danger and betrayal, but also new friends. Cannot wait for the next book. Sure hope Thorn comes up with a plan.
I received this book as a Good Reads giveaway winner. I read it in less than two days. I was really into the story and the characters. I do wish the falling in love could have been saved for the second book to keep developing on the romance. Aside from that I look forward to reading the other two books coming out this year. Thank you Good Reads and Jennifer Grey for my signed copy.

I binged this book to the point that I fell asleep several times and had to go back and reread. It was worth it! I just wanted to stay in the world and watch what happened.
FMC has a beautiful heart and a strong soul. The way she sees the world and has dealt with the loss and pain the world has dealt her is inspiring. Thorn seems like a jerk, but even as he does a jerk thing of kidnapping, he also shows how truly good he is inside.
The world is not fair, and it is more unfair in this story. My heart was on a roller coaster of emotions. And I need to jump into the next book.
The world building is strong, and the characters are well written. I laughed and gasped while reading this book. The heat from the steamy moments was as hot as the dragons fire. I love Evelyn and Thorn, and if the world they lived in was fair, this wouldn't be three book series I want to devour instead of eating or sleeping 😅 4.5 stars
The writing of the dialogues was just awful and cringy. The story has some potential but really, everyone is so dumb! The main villain is just like the stereotype of the bad guy... That wasn't good.
The writing was not necessarily bad for this one. I love books that are enemies to lovers, fated mates, and sometimes even slow burns. But, sadly this one did not land right with me. I won’t be finishing the series. I think the problem lay with just what the story was. I mean really she gives up her freedom and her normal life to save a sibling that barley gives two shits about her, because of an embezzling stepfather and his wife, who definitely don’t care for her one but and think she’s useless. They were willing to try and earn the money to pay off the debt to save the younger sister, but didn’t even try for the MC. Instead saying she was finally useful when she was taken away. Nah, I just couldn’t with the storyline, not my cup of tea.

I just did not like this book. The writing is terrible I just couldn’t finished it. I really tried to like it but just couldn’t do it. When the characters explained their background story it seemed so bland and I felt no empathy towards them. I also felt like everything was “coincidental” or convenient for the characters so the story could progress.
Unfortunately I found this to be cringey, predictable, and painful to get through. It may have been made worse by a audiobook narrator that I really did not like, but over all this was just not it…
But bonus points for the fact that at least a few times the book seemed aware of its cringe-worthiness, which was kinda funny.
I’m not crying inside and wanting to smash some heads, you are! 😭
This book was 🔥! I’m dying for book two already (which sadly isn’t out till like June).
Everly is a human who lost her mother and is left to be raised by a stepdad who happens to be the dad of her twin siblings. She’s raised herself up and is working towards becoming a doctor. And then her stepdad gets himself into a bind of all binds. He stole a million dollars from Drake (who turns out to be a dragon prince—Everly is human) and Drake demands Everly’s younger sister for a bride. However, Everly demands a trade for herself to save her barely 18 year old sister. Drake accepts, and then the real chaos begins. And her stepdad doesn’t even care, but claims she’s finally doing something useful. 🤬
Kidnapper alert! ⛓️ Thorn comes to call. He’s a dragon (the first Everly has ever seen which thrusts her into a new world) and he’s come to take Everly. Gets Saphira in the process (who was sent to collect Everly by Drake). Turns out there’s some history between Drake and Thorn. And not all is as it seems. Is the kidnapper really a good guy? Can they all become friends? Hmm. 🤔
Everly and Thorn have some sort of connection whenever near or touching each other too. And yet, she’s “promised” to Drake to be his breeder. And then she attempts to escape, which changes EVERYTHING. 🐉 Turns our Thorn has some interesting powers as a dragon and connection to the king.
The book ends on a cliffhanger and leaves you demanding to know what happens next. It has 🌶️ and ⛓️ and so much more!

Love story of broken people finding their own family.
I feel so bad for these characters. Saphira (by the way I have a dog with the same name) is a naive woman doing a job for the prince. He asked her to pick up a woman who was under the impression she was to be his wife. It turns out Saphira who thought she was close to the King & Prince doesn't really know them at all. She gets betrayed by her own uncle. Everly is the woman being picked up. Ever since her mom married her stepdad her life has been awful. When her mom dies of cancer she can't wait to get out of the house. She has learned to survive being around him because she wants to keep a relationship with her siblings. Now enter the villain, Drake he's a spoiled prince who is blackmailing Everly stepdad into giving him her little sister. Unless her stepdad can come up with 1 million dollars he embezzled from Drake. When Everly finds out she meets Drake & convinces him to take her instead. Everything goes south when their vehicle is attacked by a dragon. Thorn has a tragic backstory! He is Drake's brother, yep a prince too. When he was 6 years old he did some magic that scared his father the king. So his father tried to have him assassinated. Obviously the assassin had a heart because he refused to kill a kid. He & the nanny decided to raise Thorn as their own. Now Thorn is mad because they were kidnapped. He figures if he takes Everly then they can exchange prisoners. And basically nothing goes right from then on. If you are a fan of found families & enemies to lovers this is a must read!
