Being an ER doctor means having to deliver bad news to people all the time. But what happens when you’re the one that gets that call?

One conversation with my mother led me back to Emerson Falls, Oregon, the small town I grew up in.

But it also introduced me to Jessalyn Harris, one of the ER nurses with a feisty attitude, tiny stature, and bold personality.

And the more I got to know her, study her, crave her, the more she became a light in the dark world my mother’s cancer cast over me.

Jess’s walls were sky high though, and despite the fact that it felt like my life was crumbling around me, the challenge of climbing that barrier and getting her on the other side was just the motivation I needed to stay sane.

Of course, there can’t be love without some obstacles in the way, but Jess is a professional at keeping people at a distance.

Little did I know that my mother’s disease would find another target in the woman I fell for—and suddenly I have to prove that I’m devoted to standing by my mother and Jess’s side through it all.

I’ve loved every couple in the Emerson Falls series to date, but Brooks is vying with Cash for top spot of favorite male lead! He’s charming, loves his momma, and guys, he cries! Why that’s important to note...well, it’s not something commonly seen!

Jess was a sweetheart, always there with a shoulder to lean on and yes, the world’s worst luck in dating until she meets Brooks. Their relationship was fiery chemistry and sexy innuendos. And the candy deal esteem these two- super cute!

Overall, the Emerson Falls series has closed with a bang! Close friendships, emotional, sometimes heartbreaking moments, amusing repartee, and smoking hot attraction...I’ve enjoyed the series emotional ride immensely and am not ready to say goodbye! However, I am looking forward to whatever venture Harlow James tackles next!

I received an advance reader copy from the author and this is my honest review.

All good things must come to an end, and with this book, Harlow James’s Emerson Falls Series is complete. Devoted is a fitting conclusion to what is one of my favorite series EVER. Having had the pleasure of reading each book and following the lives of the intertwined characters I shed more than my fair share of tears.

Jess Harris is the friend everybody would love to have, she is a tiny spitfire. You will love her sweet sassiness but you will also soon discover that there is a fragile woman hidden underneath all that spunk. As an ER nurse, she is extremely good at her job and for the most part is fulfilled. The only negative aspect of her life is her lackluster love life. Jess doesn’t seem to have much luck when it cones to men and is cynical about ever finding her perfect match.

Brooks Bennett is a deliciously complicated, sexy as sin, ER doctor. He’s returned home to Emerson Falls to take care of his sick mother. He’s a cocky mamma’s boy and this aspect of his character makes him even more appealing. You can take the boy out of Emerson Falls but you can’t take Emerson Falls out of the boy and you will soon discover that he has connections to Cooper another of our favorite characters from Book 2 of the series. Even though he is a doctor, Bennett is having a hard time dealing with his mother’s scary diagnosis and behaves in ways that could forever jeopardize his budding relationship with Jess.

Brooks and Jess are a match made in book loving heaven and you just want them to realize they were meant for each other and get their happily ever after. BUT, Harlow James throws in the mother of all plot twists and will have you on the floor, stunned and unprepared for what is about to happen. In the interest of keeping this a spoiler free review, I will just say that it’s at this point that I had to put my Kindle down and take deep soothing breaths. What doesn’t kill us makes us stronger and this is what makes this couple’s love for one another shine.

Jess and Brooks’ love story is the cherry on the Emerson Falls cake and will own your heart. It is a fitting conclusion to a fantastic series that I cannot recommend enough. TBR and Enjoy.

This review is bittersweet because it's the closure to a series I've rather enjoyed.

In devoted book 5 in the Emerson Falls series ...

Devoted is Jess and Brooks story that starts with a ice cold interaction about breath fresheners .

Jess feels she is cursed by past relationships. But all she really wants is to meet a man that will always be there for her. So running into the handsome man arguing with her wasn't so bad but where things got complicated is finding out he is a doctor at the hospital she works at .
And they had an undeniable attraction to each other.

Brooks can't help his attraction to Jess he is drawn to her feisty side.
But how can he manage a relationship with her knowing he has been keeping a huge secret.

But eventually he has to come clean and hope this secret won't tear them apart ..

I give this book 5/5 ⭐ Jess is so relatable Brooks makes you want to fall into his arms for a hug .

In this book you will get
chemistry ✔️
Sassy protagonist ✔️
An emotional read ✔️
Previous characters from the series return ✔️
Amazing strength and fight ✔️

Great Reading and Amazing Series

This read was an emotional ride. Is the story of Jess and Brooks. He is a swoony ER doctor, sexy, with great personality, caring and humorous. She is a sassy nurse, sweet and strong. Both have a secret that will unite them more when them revealed.

I loved this series so much and I enjoyed every single couple and some secondary characters. They make laugh, cry, felt in love. The friendship and all the realistic moments made it one of my favorite.

I'm so glad to have discovered Harlow. And I can't wait for her next book.

I am so so so sad that this is the last Emerson Falls book. I honestly feel like I personally know these characters.

I admire Harlow James ability to create stories packed with so much emotion and depth. Of course, this one was no exception. It left me on the edge of my seat the entire time. Because I was like Jess; waiting for the shoe to drop and wondering what it could possibly be!!!

I have been waiting for Jess’s book since book 3!! She is so sassy and sarcastic but also the best kind of friend. She’s always there to listen and comfort those around her. She has her secrets; ones that haunt her. But Brooks shows her how to look fear in the eye and smile.

Brooks Bennett - the definition of a perfect male specimen. He is so tender hearted and caring towards everyone in his life. His relationship with his mother alone is enough to make any sane woman swoon. So dreamy.
He’s one of the first male characters that actually enters a relationship with nothing but optimism. No skepticism, or a complicated past or crazy ex. He is willing to go all in with Jess and see where life takes them.

Life took them the long way around...through terrible weather & rocky roads.

But they ultimately learn how to be completely honest and straightforward with one another. Brooks lets Jess shoulder some of his burden. Jess admits her fears and what’s ends up her reality and let’s Brooks be there for her through it all.

Wish I could live in Emerson Falls. And that this series would never end!! But I am so excited for whatever Harlow James decides to write next.

(Also, I loved the awareness this book brings for breast cancer. My Granny & my Aunt both battled this disease and were survivors. 💕 I know it couldn’t have been an easy story to write.)

FIVE STARS.

(Dual POVs)

Nothing can prepare you for all the emotions you get from this book. I have so many emotions flowing through me right now, I think I need a glass of wine to help me process them. If not, I’m going to end up going in a corner, sobbing like a baby 😭

I absolutely love the way the author builds relationships between her characters. It’s evident in this book that the characters actively work on building a deeper emotional connection with each other and respect each other’s boundaries. And Brooks! I’ve never met a man who is as open about his feelings as he is!

I whole heartedly appreciated the realistic ending of this story. It’s not really a HEA, but more like a, ‘tomorrow is not guaranteed but I will cherish every moment I get with you’ kind of ending. This is definitely the best ending to a wonderful, emotional, heartfelt series. I couldn’t have asked for anything more!

Favorite quotes:
”Getting older is a privilege, not a right,”

Brooks is a unicorn in a field of donkeys, even though he proved in our first encounter that he could channel his inner ass from time to time as well.

As much as I didn’t want this series to end I couldn’t wait to get my hands on Jess and Brooks story. This book just spoke to me and quickly became my favorite out of all them. It made me laugh with talk of crazy dating curses and cry with the heartbreak of dealing with cancer. I also liked all their dating adventures and being all about living life to its fullest! Their story is beautiful and you will want to read all about them. Also the epilogue tying up this series is just perfect.

Have you ever read a book and thought holy shit this character is me? That’s what happened when I read Devoted. Harlow has the remarkable ability to write characters that are so relatable. And this story was that and beyond for me! It took me some time to write this review. I think because I connected in ways I wasn’t expecting to.
.
Jess is a sassy nurse who loves karaoke, vodka crans, throwing back a whole bag of potato chips in one sitting and cursed with luck with men. And then she meets Brooks. Their first meeting didn’t go rather friendly. But when they learn they are coworkers, that instant lust and frenemies situation soon turns into real feelings. Only she’s scared of her ‘curse’ and Brooks is dealing with something he’s not ready to share. He has no idea that what he needs to share has such a profound connection to Jess, that could ultimately effect their relationship.
.
There was so much about Jess that I could connect to, especially in the beginning. But there were also differences too. Ultimately it really made me connect with her and this story even more. There’s a twist in this story that grabbed my heart. And also made me want to throw my kindle. It was a close call. But the way in which the author followed up, moved me. It was written so eloquently and beautifully. You couldn’t be mad long.
.
Brooks is the ultimate book boyfriend. Maybe a little mushy at times, but he can be my unicorn anyday. “Brooks is a unicorn in a field of donkeys...” He was steady and solid. Patient, caring and mindful. Ridiculously sexy. And loved Jess with a fierceness I adored. Their relationship started so fun and flirty. With lots of banter and sexual tension. But it moved in the way of a slow burn romance. Oh it gets steamy. Then takes on a serious emotional tone. Just prepare to be moved going through all the emotions.
.
I loved how the other characters from this series were incorporated into this story. If anything I would have loved to see just a little more of them in this final book. But that’s just me not wanting this series to be over. The epilogue is really written quite beautifully and wraps the series up in a perfect bow.
.
This book is more than a sweet and steamy romance story. It’s about overcoming some of the scariest obstacles life can throw at you and your loved ones. About relying on your team of support to rally around you. It also has a very teachable moment about taking your health into your own hands quite literally. You’ll understand when you read it. And be sure to read it!

I was given this book by the author in return for an honest review.

Wow just wow, Harlow what did you do? I will tell you girl, you ripped my heart out and tore it in to tiny little pieces!! Ugly crying happening right now, just wow!!

What a book, seriously it had ALL the feels.

💗 Angst 💗 Tears 💗 Love 💗 Hot sex 💗 Emotional 💗 Small town 💗 Hospital romance 💗 Friend group 💗 Family dynamics  💗 Real life 💗 Respect 💗 Fun 💗 Secrets 💗

Gosh where to start!! In this book we came across Jess and Dr McHotty Brooke's. This couple hit it off with their hatred of each others mint choices haha, little did they know that meeting would be a poignant moment in both of their lives.

Jess had a string of failed relationships and Brooke's was in town for his mother and even though Jess was really nervous about starting anything, she in the end just went for it. Thank God that she did because this pair were wonderful for each other. They really brought each other out and that's what a partnership should be about.

Unfortunately there were secrets, not bad secrets but ultimately they could tear them apart which would be devastating.

This book shows you that regardless of how hard something is, don't hide it and try to deal with things alone. Don't take the choice away from the other to help or not. Let them decide if they want to stick around.

Seriously if you have something good, do not push it away. Open your heart and take that help, that love that is offered as it will make you stronger.

I love that it touched on cancer, it affects all of us in some way and definitely a reminder for us all to check our breasts.

I loved the ending and seeing how everyone got on in their lives.

Reading this book was definitely bittersweet for me, Harlow approached me when Devoted was coming out and I am so glad that she did. I have loved every single character and every couple's story.  I am so sad that this is my last trip to Emerson Falls.

Thank you so much for having me on your team Harlow, it's been an absolute honor reading for you and an absolute pleasure getting to know you as a person. Now where is that next series your talking about girl 💗🤣😘

Devoted was such a perfect ending to this series. Absolutely a 5 star read!

Have you ever sat down to write a review and just gotten stuck? Cause that’s what happened to me with Devoted. I LOVED this book like I consumed it in two sittings which with as crazy as life currently is for me was amazing and shows just how wonderful this book is! But dang if I’m not having a hard time putting my thoughts and feelings for this one into words. This book touched on some of my greatest fears and i have to be honest and say that it was a tough/emotional read for me because of this. Losing my mom is probably my greatest fear in life. Just the idea that something could happen to this one of a kind, selfless woman who loves wholeheartedly and unconditionally whom I’m lucky enough to call my mom makes me want to cry, scream and throw up all at the same time. So reading Brooks’s journey with his mom battling cancer and the emotional turmoil he goes through really touched something deep inside of me. And that my friends is the beauty of Harlow James’s writing. She makes me feel all the emotions so dang deeply which I love and appreciate so much! It takes true talent to not only write an entertaining story but a story that makes the reader feel something! This time I’m walking away with a renewed since of wonder and hope.

This book was filled with so much hope! Brooks and Jess found each other right when they were meant to. Brooks who despite everything is brimming with life and spontaneity pushes Jess to live life to the fullest and out side of the confines of her comfort zones. While Jess who is filled with so much compassion but also a fiery sass provides Brooks with the perfect distraction when needed and the perfect comfort and companionship when called for. The two make a perfect match and it was simply beautiful to read about such a wholesome love that thrived in the midst of all the obstacles they had to overcome.

Thank you so much Harlow James for sending me this ARC in return for my honest review!

Devoted book 5 in the Emerson Falls ( last book in the series)by Harlow James.

Rating 5⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heat 🔥🔥🔥

This is the first book I read by this author, and I am sorry I only just now found her. She is a self published author, a fantastic writer... I loved this book, Devoted hit me very personally I was able to understand every single emotions that Jess and Brooks were going through when his mom was diagnosed with cancer, it's a terrifying experience. I know because I just went through this last year myself, this book was very emotional to me I cried a few times. It's an intense storyline it will touch anyone with a heart.

Brooks is the man that every single woman dreams of as a partner, he's sexy hot, kind, considerate, loving, a hard working doctor, sweet, incredibly supportive and a patience man...oh goodness seeing him with his mom was heart-warming. I loved him so much!
Jess has experienced heartbreaking losses herself, she's a strong woman, a very good nurse, adorably funny, loving, a hardwoker, supportive, big heart, but more reserved, because she's been hurt in the past with bad luck in boyfriends.
This made her loose hope in finding a man that she could marry, and have a future with- until she found Brooks whom helped her realize that she was worth it and lovable!

They go through some tuff moments together, but they are perfect for each other, they have really hot chemistry too!
The other characters are so relatable, they're down to earth and I absolutely love that hometown feel that this book gives you! That ending is everything to me.....it's perfect 👌💖

I'm a new fan of Harlow James her writing incorporates everything I want in a book. I can't wait to read the next new book she comes out with, and go back to read the other books in this series.
I highly recommend this book, no cliffhanger and can be read as a standalone!

This was everything I was expecting from the last book of the series of Emerson Falls and so much more. This book was perfection and beautiful in every form.

From the moment I started reading this book I couldn't put it down (literally I was glued to it). I went to sleep at 5:30 am because I fell in love with the story of Jess and Brooks. Bravo Harlow this has become one of my favorites books of all times.

Jess is the girl next door, ER nurse who has an amazing personality. She is friendly, caring and sweet all over. Besides all of her amazing qualities she believes she is cursed and that she is meant to never find true love. Everything changes for her one day when she mets Brooks in a very hilarious situation. From the very first time the attraction to each other is electric.

Brooks is back in town after finding out his mother is sick. He is the new doctor in the ER department. His life is turn upside down and for the first time he is truly scared. The only thing that brighten his days are the interactions with the sexy and sassy nurse that works with him. His attraction to the petite Jess is so big that this is the first time he considers a future with someone.

But not everything is perfect. Jess and Brooks relationship and future will be tested. How would they survive something so tragic? You truly have to read this story and find out.

Harlow James will take you in a ride were you will feel all the emotions of this characters. You will laugh with them but you would also cry with them. You would completely adore Jess and Brooks that I can guarantee.

Wow! This is it! Can’t believe we’ve come to the end. Harlow James, thanks for this amazing conclusion. This book was phenomenal, like all the others. Never expected book 1 (Kane and Olivia’s story) to draw me in and take me on a such an emotional ride. It’s been a pleasure reading, and reviewing this series.

On to the story…

Brooks and Jess are such wonderful characters. So well developed yet complex, but not overly so. I think Devoted is the perfect title, cause it adequately describes the nature of the MC’s. Jess, is a devoted nurse; started inherently after witnessing an accident. She refused to leave the strangers side until the paramedic’s came. A true sign of just how giving and “devoted” she is.

Brooks is an anomaly of book boyfriends. The dashing doctor is kind, caring, and funny, very protective and devoted to everyone he loves. The humble doctor, puts himself on the line, time after time. And for Jess, he’s a superhero. He’s there for her when she tries to push him away. He’s there for her when tragedy strikes. He’s a man of steel; not budging, not easily shaken. But every piece of metal endures wear and tear, right? Brooks, though strong, has his vulnerabilities.

These two brought tears to my eyes. Their journey was sweet, but not without heartache. I felt their pain and understood the severity of their secrets. Without spilling too much else, I’ll just say this book is the perfect end to an incredible series. Way to go, Harlow! Can’t wait to see what’s next!

Coming across Harlow’s writing has been an absolute gift and I’m so thankful that I received an ARC of this amazing book. Devoted is the conclusion to her small town romance series that takes place in Emerson Falls.
From the moment I began book 1 with Kane & Olivia, each new set of characters that were introduced won me over. They are all such an amazing, supportive and loyal crew that I really need to this fictional town and make myself at home.
Devoted in particular was a gripping, raw and emotional ride that I was loving being stuck on & I didn’t want it to end.
Brooks is strong, alpha, smart and devoted to the women in his life. He came hone to Emerson Falls on the grounds of some heartbreaking news, not expecting to meet the sassy, sweet, strong & beautiful Jess. Trying to find his feet back in his hometown, meeting new people, reconnecting with old, starting in a new workplace & his family responsibilities, Jess was a welcome break and refuge for Brooks. You could feel their connection & how beautifully suited to one another they are from the very beginning.
Jess was afraid of her ‘curse’ and didn’t want to rush things once she found Brooks in case the curse was real & she lost him. My heart broke for both Jess & Brooks in this book and reading them connecting, supporting & being there for one another was so beautiful.
Harlow writes amazing romance, connections & steam. If you haven’t been to a Emerson Falls yet, get on board, it’s MARVELLOUS!

I am at a loss of words. This happens when you've read such an amazing story! A story so amazing that you can't possible imagine writing a review worth of it.

That's why I'll keep this review short.

The Emerson Falls series ends in a beautiful note with DEVOTED. Beautiful being the key word - the characters, their devotion, the writing style ... - it's all a big beautiful mixture.

Harlow James delivers another rollercoaster of emotions in this story. It is all so realistic that you feel like you're living among the characters and on the edge of your seat. You cheer with them, you laugh with them, you hope with them.

The author has affirmed her style - romance with heat, humor, honesty and love of heart.

I’ve always love Emerson Falls series but this one was absolutely Fantastic! Jess was such a sweet person she had the worst lunch before meeting Brookes their relationship was full of romance! You can really see how they are meant for each other. Damn that protagonist was the right amount of sassy and relatable! As much as I didn’t want the series to end I’m happy it ended like this I wouldn’t want it any other way to be honest. I also like how they lived there life’s to the fullest in this book! This was also such an emotional roller-coaster Jess was one hell of a fighter. It’s like I could feel the characters pain. This was a amazing read from the start to finish I would 100% recommended!

Jess- she is such a sweet soul. She is out to help all those around her, and is damn good at it. She has been through the wringer in life, yet has not allowed that to define her, especially in her drive toward leading a fulfilled life. Brooks is the most loyal guy, one willing to give up his well-established life and move back home in order to take care of his mother. He then continues to maintain as much optimism as he possibly can in order to still embrace life. It isn't until an even bigger wrench is thrown into the picture that Jess and Brooks are truly and unconditionally dependent on one another. Devotion is what brings them together and devotion is what will make or break them!

Harlow James really went all out with the last book of her Emerson Falls series! She packed so much emotion into this book! I was a bit of a mess toward the end! Jess became one of my favorite characters throughout this series and was so happy we were getting her story (and what a story it is)! Brooks couldn't be more perfect for Jess! I really love them together! Their journey is a tough one but the only way to get through it, is together.

I really didn't want this series to end as I have come to love all of the characters! I can't wait to see what's next from Harlow. She has become one of my favorite authors!! 😍

What a great way to finished this series! Jess and Brooks have that connection from the get go........ each feeling that attraction and chemistry.
Jess was a nurse at the hospital Brooks just starts at after moving to Emerson falls to help care for his sick mother.
I wouldn’t call this an insta love book but once they connected the feeling came up hard and fast!
We got glimpses of the entire crew in this book and their respective endings to the entire series.
This book was a definite tear jerker, as I have come to realize are with all of Harlow’s Books.

This can be read as a stand-alone in the series but why do that when you can read them all!

It's always bittersweet when a series comes to an end, but this is by far the best book in the series. It's so emotional, so real, so heartbreaking, and I connected with Jess so much.

I don't want to spoil the plot, but this is a topic that is close to my heart, and because I am medically predisposed to develop what Jess went through, this book effected me so much. I love the way our author was able to handle such a difficult topic with such grace, and all the while giving us the ending we were craving for.

Please go read this series. You won't regret it.❤

WOW!!!

What a great read. Brooks and Jess were made for each other. Even though Jess thought she had a "curse" as to why no guy ever stuck around, Brooks did everything to prove to her he was into her and that he was there for the long haul even having to take care of his mom. This was such an emotional read, watching my grandmother battle breast cancer was so hard to watch, but she is one hell of a fighter and still in remission. So i felt their pain i cried when they cried...

I felt like this was such a wonderful way to wrap up a series.

Thank you so much Harlow James for this world you created. I loved every book in this series and I'm a little sad that it's over.
You made me cry so hard with this one.
Jess and Brooks story will give you all the emotions and prepare yourself for crying a lot but don't worry, the happy ending is there.
Their story is one about fear, pain and loss, it's about fighting for life and never give up. But in the end it's all about love.
Give a chance to this series, you will enjoy the journey!

Devoted is a page-turning, emotional rollercoaster and a beautiful ending to the Emerson Falls series. Harlow James does an amazing job of getting you emotionally invested in her stories. Devoted truly hit home with me as cancer has done its damage in my family. I laughed and cried all through this story as memories of my mom would come back while reading. I loved the banter between Brooks and Jess and as always love the kinship of the friends that look out for each other and stand beside each other through everything. Brooks is so loving and fiercely loyal and I agree with him that cinnamon gum is the best, lol. Small town romances have for sure become a favourite trope of mine and Emerson Falls is a small town that everyone needs to visit as this is a must-read series. I can not wait to see what comes next from Harlow James!

Perfection! Beautiful, Real, Emotional & Steamy.

The author decided to save the best for last by giving us Devoted as the final book in the Emerson Falls Series. She has given us everything you could want in a series…..a small town filled with forbidden love, enemies to lovers, reformed bad boys, strong woman and the men that love them without measure. We have read and felt the laughter, tears, fear, strength, hope and love that this group of friends has lived. But I don’t think I was prepared for the beautifully raw, honest & real story she has given us in Devoted.

Jess & Brooks have a connection that neither of them can deny. They both have some personal issues that causes some hesitation to begin any type of relationship. When they finally can’t fight their connection they start what is immediately a steamy & sweet relationship where they become the best versions of themselves. Jess was smart, caring & had the same insecurities that I think alot of woman have. Brooks was a good man…a man who dropped his entire life to return home when he is needed with no hesitation at all. Their relationship starts with laughter & snark and then just continues to be fun & adventurous. But real life woes and trouble seep into their lives and we find out that they are both keeping secrets. Will these secrets bring them together or destroy any chance for a real relationship?

This story will cause tears…lots of tears. But they aren’t always sad tears. This book and especially the Epilogue will wreck you in the best way...but you will be smile through your tears. You will wish you could actually crawl into this book to give all of these characters a hug goodbye. Devoted is absolutely powerful in so many ways that touch your heart, illustrate how strong people can be, make you appreciate the good times after the hard times and remember that love is always the best medicine.

I’m incredibly sad to say goodbye to Emerson Falls Series for so many reasons but I’ll be anxiously awaiting the next story that this author gives us.

4.5 stars!

Devoted is the fifth and final book in the Emerson Falls series and I think it’s my favourite. Harlow has outdone herself with Jess and Brooks’ story, it was so moving and emotional in the best way.

Brooks has moved back to Emerson Falls because of his mother’s breast cancer diagnosis. As a doctor himself, he knows how difficult the process of fighting cancer is, and he wants to be there for his mum. He gets a job in the ER at the hospital and meets Jess, an ER nurse, who he has instant chemistry with. Both are a bit reluctant to pursue anything more, Brooks because of his mother and Jess because she believes she is cursed when it comes to love. However, fate steps in when they are thrown together at a speed dating event, and they start dating after seeing how much in common they have. Their relationship is progressing fast, but Brooks is keeping his mother’s cancer a secret from Jess, to avoid pity and because he’s using her as an escape from that scary unknown part of his life. Jess is suspicious at first, but when the truth comes out, it seems they have even more in common than they first thought. But when Jess finds out some life changing news herself, will they get through it together?

This book was incredible, hands down the best one in the series. It took me a while to get into it, but once Brooks and Jess were together, I was so invested. Brooks was so scared about what could happen to his mum, at first, he wanted to keep Jess out of that side of his world so he had a place he could forget about it. He was in denial, but when he opened up to her about his fears, she became a safe place for him. I loved how he didn’t bottle up his emotions, he cried and let it out, which was so refreshing from a hero in a romance book. Jess’ belief in being cursed was a way for her to keep men at arm’s length, especially after her own history. But Brooks broke down that barrier, and the curse, and proved that he loved her completely. Everything she did, she did with Brooks in mind, and I cried so hard when he found everything out, it was heart-breaking but also full of hope too. Jess was so strong, nothing was going to stop her once she set her mind to something and I loved her whole personality, she was great. As a couple, they weren’t necessarily my favourite from this series, but with the plot and the emotions, Jess and Brooks have a piece of my heart.

It was so great to revisit Emerson Falls one last time and catch up with the previous couples, it was like coming home to old friends. Harlow’s writing has a way of doing that, it transports you into the book and you feel like a part of the group. I will miss this world and group a lot, each of their stories will stay with me for a long time. Harlow’s small-town romances are on my list of all-time favourites, I will be re-reading them time and time again.

Overall, Devoted is the perfect conclusion to the Emerson Fall series. I highly recommend each and every one of these books, they are so worth reading. They are all so different but the link between them is so strong. Devoted is full of emotion, heartache and hope. It’s about learning to lean and trust another, because although it is possible to face struggles on your own, with the support of those you love, you can be stronger to fight.

It's bittersweet to be finished with another series. I am so happy to have stumbled upon Emerson Falls. I was between releases for my ARC team reviews and other new releases. I needed something new. I love small town series. The first book was recommended in the Kindle Unlimited Romance Reader Group on Facebook. Once I read the first book it was hooked. I quickly read through the rest. This last one was so good, but some of the material was deep.

Jess thinks she is cursed to be alone. After several failed relationships that end with the guy marrying his next girlfriend, Jess decides it must be her. Brooks is back in town to care for his sick mother. He didn't come back expecting to find love, but once he finds Jess, he is hooked.

This story is beautiful, deep, hot, depressing, sad, and hopeful all at once. It will pull you through so many emotions. It is worth the read the trip ends with a fabulous HEA.

I have enjoyed my journey through Emerson Falls. I look forward to reading more by Harlow James.
