Why have particular systems of government come into being? How do they succeed? What makes them fail? What effect does government have on the way in which society is structured, and how does a governmental system affect the economic and cultural life of its citizens?
R.G. Grant is a historian who has written extensively on many aspects and periods of history. Among his more than fifty published books are: Battle, Soldier, and Battle at Sea (2005, 2007, 2008). He was also a major contributor to the ITV Visual History of the Twentieth Century (1999) and consultant for Chronology of World History (1995). He is also a contributor to 1001 Battles That Changed the Course of History, where earlier versions of his contributions to Britannica first appeared.
A well-written encyclopedic compendium of well-known military commanders throughout history. Grant uses an easy-to-understand narrative style while focusing on the strategies and tactics of the commanders discussed. However, a great letdown is the fact that Grant focuses on stereotypical commanders and provides no insights into hitherto unexplored/unknown figures.
this is a good resource for those who love military history...i initially went through the book and use it as a reference whenever i watch a movie or another book. great investment to have.
