Great Expectations is the quintessential coming-of-age story and is a great classic. I make no pretense to attempt to review it but will just add this final paragraph below. Dickens had two endings to choose from and Im glad he went with the sentimental one:
-- I took her hand in mine, and we went out of the ruined place; and, as the morning mists had risen long ago when I first left the forge, so, the evening mists were rising now, and in the broad expanse of tranquil light they showed me, I saw no shadow of another parting from her.
