Stunning insights into the Jewish background of the NT from one of the greatest minds of the 20th century. Daube's style is not for everyone: he has a dry wit, and isn't shy about sprinkling his prose with dead languages, but if you know those languages, you'll be very impressed with the dazzling erudition with which he makes his arguments. I particularly recommend this volume for its insights into 1 Corinthians 7, its excellent explanation of the ordination ritual of laying on of hands, and its paradigm changing explanation of Jesus' words of institution at the Last Supper.
