I am re-reading some of the books I’ve held onto since the 80s, to decide if they get a permanent place on my bookshelf. I enjoyed reading this again. In my teenage years, I read Corker and (sequel) Big Ben is back many times. It’s funny how some things don’t age well. A lot of the 1980s mentality is pretty jarring to me now. This one doesn’t get to stay on my bookshelf, but it was a sentimental re-read.

I will not rate the message of this book. It had a good message, but the presentation was less than desirable. Honestly, LDS fiction in my personal opinion could have great potential. And I have LDS authors I really enjoy, but this piece is interesting. Yet, I'm trying to understand what went wrong. Yes, the eighties was a very different time, I will give it some credit. Still the book itself embodied a lot of stereotypes lacking the depths of contemporary knowledge.
Violence: hahahaha...um no
Sex: There is a married couple, but no actual content
Language: By Mormons for Mormons, maybe dang, and that's possibly even pushing it.
Drug/Alcohol: nope

This is sequel to Anya Bateman's first novel "Corker." Ben left on a mission at the end of that book, now "Big Ben is Back". Finding the right woman is always difficult, but then he meets Robin and zowie his motor begins to rev, unfortunately she is definitely moving in reverse.
