Packed full of bloody battles, fierce fighting and brutal military tactics, Boudica is an iconic figure of war and womanhood, whose legendary life story still resonates today. Part of the 'Real Lives' series which are narrative accounts of the life and times of some of the world's most iconic figures.
So much talk of murder and decapitation but they can't just come out and say her young daughters were raped? We can openly discussed warriors cutting men to pieces but we have to say his daughters were "dishonored" and use other vague wording? Come on.
I bought this book under "historical biographies", I was hoping for a traditional read but I have to say I was very disappointed. This book is written like a historical fiction novel. I don't understand that for a supposed 'non-fiction' novel, how the author would know if Boudica was trembling with fear? Or how would they know if her daughters face was pale white? It reads a lot more like a historical fiction than a historical biography; I can only think that it was wrongly categorised in the Kindle Store. The read wasn't very detailed, it did state some of the trouble she had gaining trust and respect from her fellow tribe leaders. I was hoping for a more detailed read on Boudica, more to the point with none of the thrills.
Overall, a good book if you want a light read, but not really the book if you want to learn something.
Firstly, I must say this book is geared for the younger, new readers who are interested in heroic stories or history. However, I greatly enjoyed reading this short story as it had much action and emotion.
