To know a Shih Tzu is to love a Shih Tzu . . . they're irresistible, coy, flirtatious, and passionately devoted companions. They love the good life, and though they can be shrewd (or selectively deaf, or consciously naive), the Shih Tzu is so endearing that even "big dog" lovers find themselves swooning over this adorable breed. But is the Chinese Charmer the right match for you? "Shih Tzu for Dummies" answers all of your questions, like: What is a Shih Tzu really like? Can I get a Shih Tzu if I have children or other pets? How difficult is grooming? Can I do it myself or should I get a professional? How do I find a good breeder? What about a good vet? What should my Shih Tzu eat?Do small dogs really need that much training? How can I teach my Shih Tzu some basic commands? The Shih Tzu is built for one job and one job alone: to be your close personal friend for life. A dog bred for companionship must be allowed to do its job, and its job is to be with you. So, if you have the time (for grooming), dedication (for training), and room (on your lap and in your heart), the Shih Tzu is a small dog with a lot of love just waiting for a new best friend.

Great book if you are buying a tzu with a pedigree, looking to show your pedigreed pup, and all of that happy stuff. My dog would kill me if I put his hair up in ponytails, even if just so he could see where he is going. I wanted to learn more about the breed's personality traits and that sort of thing.
This is my first For Dummies guide, and it's on a subject that I already knew quite a bit about. I've always had one or more Shih Tzu in my life over the past 16 years, but we recently added a puppy to the family, so I felt like it wouldn't hurt to learn more about this adorable breed. And I actually learned quite a bite more about my fluffy babies. We now have some great tips on training the little one, and I found the perfect solution to her using my old Tutu (14 years old) as a chew toy!
Very fast, fun, and informative, Shih Tzu For Dummies is the perfect guide for those already familiar with the breed and those with no knowledge about them whatsoever.
really helps a lot especially if you have never kept a toy dog before and this book literally teaches you everything even from before buying/adopting to the very last breath of your beloved pooch. also included many interesting facts on the dog itself!
Strongly recommend this book as a must have for anyone who's interested in having an adorable shih tzu join their family! While these are adorable dogs, they do have their traits and different personalities! Enjoy!
