Adventures in Staying Young by Maxwell Maltz is a biography about lessons the author has learned from people he has come across in life. Maltz was a plastic surgeon during the 20th century and died in 1975. The book is a collection of many different stories of experiences he has had with people and the lessons he learned from them on how they stayed feeling young, happy, and satisfied with life. This novel is entertaining and educates about different lives and the paths you can take to keep yourself happy and content, even when you have faced suffering.
“ …someone who, whatever the circumstaces, would keep going, whose heart therefore would remain forever young.” This is the end quote of one of the stories and the way the person stayed youthful. In each of the stories we learn about different people but all of those people have something in common. They all had reached a point where it was difficult or seemingly impossible to live as they were, but they made a change or realized an idea and went back to feeling youthful and alive again.
The lives that are written about are very diverse and so are the ways they came back to happiness. Because of that, we get ideas for any situation we may face and how to get through it like they have. People who may like this would be anyone interested in biographies. It isn’t so much an autobiography though, it is mainly about other people and not the author himself. It’s more like a collection of nonfiction short stories. People who like books with comedy would also like this book because some parts of the stories can be very funny. There are some very heart-wrenching stories as well, so those who appreciate that would like this too.
