R.L. Stine lands some major dad jokes with this hilarious picture book. Our heroes are floral shirt-wearing mice police officers tasked to sleuth out the missing 4th of July parade. Ten puns later and they've practically forgotten their assignment, but still manage to save the day by accident.
Or so they think!
Even though this is circa 1986, before Stine became scary and was still known as “Jovial Bob,” you know there’s gonna be a twist at the end.
Maybe it’s not the most enduring work of children’s lit, but still sad to see it thoroughly out of print. The illustrations are a hoot and the jokes well-timed. A belly laugh for all ages--particularly those who enjoy play on words. Even the title is no doubt a joke appealing to Miami Vice hysteria of the time.
No urgent need to hunt down a copy unless you’re a Stine completionist, but fun nonetheless.
I honestly don't know how to rate these type of books. But this was honestly really cute. Its about this monkey named Zippy needing his two best police officers names Fred and Ted to be on the look out for parade. They go and find other animals to see if they've seen it. Stine will always be the scary guy for me but his humor is very underrated.I will give it five stars.
