Don Coldsmith was an American author of primarily Western fiction. A past president of Western Writers of America, Coldsmith wrote more than 40 books, as well as and hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles. His “Spanish Bit Saga,” a series of related novels, helped to re-define the Western novel by adopting the point of view of the Native Americans, rather than the European immigrants.
Buffalo Medicine by Don Coldsmith Book 4 of the Spanish bit series. Owl son of The chief and his apprenticeship to be the Medicine man of the tribe. Gave this 4 stars. This series is my favorites. No Indian and the cavalry or cowboys and Indian genre. Highly recommend this series
I just loved the introduction, by Ardath Mayhar: "It is all too true that history has been written by the victors . . . that generations have been nurtured upon tales of savage "Injuns" . . . and so refreshing when we find a book such as Don Coldsmith's, which doesn't describe them as the bad guys."
This is my first Coldsmith book, but it sure won't be my last.
I really enjoyed this book it was a short read and I’ve come to find part of a Saga. It is nice to read about the customs of people often forgotten. It was a little dry because everything was very direct. But I think it was meant to be that way to imitate the way the main character thought so logically.
Very good "Western" story. It's actually not like your normal American Western tale. Lots of nicely developed characters and a nice continuing storyline. Recommended
