Mr. Peacock was born on an island and continues the tradition living in Maui, Hawaii. Decades were spent living on a secluded O'ahu, Hawai'i beach, surfing, mountain biking, glider flying and throwing beach parties people still talk about - all in the name of research.
When he had to work it was stints at the Honolulu airport, as a cargo handler, Air Traffic Control radio, Airline Flight Operations Dispatcher and tower operator at Kapalua airport. Part time gigs included computer programmer and an amateur lobster fisherman.
Having traveled extensively to all of the Hawaiian islands, Tahiti, Bali, Australia and a few places he has sworn to keep secret, Mr. Peacock has lived, and continues to do through his writing, a life as colorful as his name.
He lives in a bungalow, under a mango tree, in Lahaina. He can sometimes be found hanging out at Tiwaka's Tiki Bar & Grill.

I have had this on my TBR since 2012, although I don't know why. LOL But I just read this and I had so much fun reading it in more ways than one!

First, Tiwaka, the parrot that tends the Tiki Bar and is a main character is so fun and he's very intelligent. He not only talks like crazy but he actually tends the bar and makes drinks while the human bar tender goes surfing to to enjoy time with Sandy, the woman of his dreams.

This book had fun things such as Tiwaka, it had romance, business, songs with what I'd call a playlist, recipes, drugs, gangsters, theft, murder, and all the bad things in life that we have no matter where we live. So this book definitely has something for everyone.

The other reason I thoroughly loved this book is that I've been to 4 Hawaiian islands, and so much of what was talked about in the book is something I've experienced or have some knowledge about. For example, it mentions the Road to Hana, which happens to be an all day drive through the most beautiful scenery ever! There's a "stop" along the way that says, "Halfway on the Road to Hana" and it sells shave ice. Another place mentioned is a place we didn't go to because it was so expensive, but it's world renowned for being one of THE best fish houses and it's called Mama's Fish House.

When I took my daughter to Kauai this past year, we saw this man who was selling coconuts which my daughter doesn't like, but we were fascinated (and it scared me) that he used a machete to swing down one hard swing to slice open the coconut and coconuts are tackled in the same way. I thought the guy was nuts, but I guess that's how they do it.

Recommendation: It's a very cute, fun read but also has a lot about the culture, some history, some realistic life situations and I think it's worth reading because you might just love it.

What a fun, fun book!
This one is the sequel to The Parrot Talks in Chocolate, and it is just as full of color and Hawaiian magic as the previous one. I swear that after putting it down my hands smell a bit like coconut.
The story takes off where we left the characters last time and they all appear in their full glory: Sandy with her crazy ways, Coco with her strange eyes, charming Tiwaka and many, many other characters. Of course, the main character, the one who takes center stage, is Maui itself. The descriptions are vivid enough to smell and taste, and the reader is hard pressed to remain sitting without trying to imitate some of the wilder dancing moments.
There are a few loose ends which left me wondering a bit, mainly about the almost possession that the narrator encounters in a Hippie retreat. That could have been explained a bit more, but it doesn’t take away too much from the story so it’s not a deal breaker.
More than anything, this novel is a love story. One between humans, animals, the ocean, and mainly, a love story sung to the bright piece of Earth that exists in the Pacific. I highly recommend this book, preferably if you’ve read the first one.

I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in Peacock's series, `The Parrot Talks in Chocolate', and must say this follow-up book is packed with even more of the fun stuff, the characters, the island stories and the magic that made me dig the first book.

Tiwaka the parrot is one of the most lovable characters I've ever encountered in any story. Now, don't be mislead...this is no Disney-esque goofy talking animal. Tiwaka acts and talks like a real parrot (I know, I have two) except with an added intelligence ("poetic license") that makes him just magical enough to be believable.

In contrast to the first book, this one is considerably longer and delves much deeper into the people, places and culture that surround the characters of Tiwaka's Tiki Bar & Grill. The first book was fun and breezy, while this one can get a little heavy at times as the stories become more true to life...but don't worry, the magic always returns, and just in time.

I've read several books by Everett Peacock and have been extremely impressed by how well written and professional they are, so much more so than many mainstream books. If you want a great read about Hawaiian culture, cool characters and exotic locals, you'll love both this book and The Parrot Talks in Chocolate!

Recieved this book from Goodreads recently and I am very pleased with it. I am reading this book in between reading school books and I must say that it is an excellent destresser. When I am stressed over my work load, it is not always easy to find that special happy place but this book is so well written -it whisked me away in the instant I opened it. So far, I have only begun about 20 pages but I have absolutely fallen in love with Tiwaka, and I too got a little teary eyed at his brilliance and what seems like, great emotion. I look foward to finishing the book as it is not only a good read but a great source of meditation and calm. I used to live on the beach years ago but living in Ohio, I am a world away it seems. Thank you for allowing me the pleasure of going back to those days once again.

I read this book a few years ago. I remember enjoying it so much that I'm reading it a second time, and I never read a book twice.

This review is from: In The Middle of the Third Planet's Most Wonderful of Oceans (Kindle Edition)
The book, In the Middle of the Third Planet's Most Wonderful of Oceans, is a marvel of enlightened island magic. I am at once falling in love all over again (this being the second in this genre) with Tiwaka, a most fascinating creature, and the pure timeless, yet ever changing, beauty of Maui - it's Nature, it's humans and it's secrets. Love, adventure and beautiful insight, this is a read that leaves me feeling glad to be alive! I have become a huge fan of this author and look forward to what is next in this amazing island journey.

We instantly rediscover the chilled out attitude and the slightly eccentric characters of Tiwaka's Bar but this time, the action does get slightly further afield. Not that far - it stays on the island but does go slightly beyond the immediate location of the bar, coconut grove and surfers' beach.

In this episode, Cupid has fired his arrows into the tiki bar and the action (what little there is) focuses on getting loved up and organising the perfect Hawaiian wedding ceremony. The tone of the book changes slightly and shows that, in spite of the paradisiacal setting, things can go wrong and tragedy can still strike.

The second installment in The Life and Times of a Hawaiian Tiki Bar series goes in a different direction than the first. Where book one was focused on the bar and its happenings this book focuses more on the main character, his budding relationship and personal enlightenment rather than the fun times had at the bar which was more of what I was looking for. But as usual the Mr. Peacock does do a wonderful job of bringing Hawaii to the reader so if you need a little warmth in your life this just might do the trick!

Everett Peacock rocks again in this escapist feel good novel that completely captures and shares the magic that is Hawaii - specifically the jungle gems that are along the road to Hana, Maui. Favorite quote (surfing) "As close as you get to dancing with God".
Reading this makes your heart happy and grateful. And from one surfer girl who once lived on Oahu and explored Maui I get the truth he's projecting onto the pages of living your life.

I still find myself feeling happy for some time after finishing the book, which is a good deal more than I get from many other books I read. Big fan here! Thanks

This is a light read with a positive and easy living feel, like Hawaii, I suppose.
The author loves the subject and you will as well. This is a great series to read prior to a trip to the islands or in the dead of winter.

I think it was a fun, fun book that needs a good editor! The story is great and the characters are wonderful to know. I will read the next in the series and pray Mr. Peacock has found that editor!
