"Dark Beauty is indeed a thing of beauty. A page turner from the first page to the last! Superb!" Andy Rausch, author of thriller novels Layla's Score,American Trash, and Until One of Us Is Dead.
Tessa and Kristin Morgan are identical twins, exquisitely beautiful, and have the world at their perfectly pedicured feet; they are also profoundly different beneath their stunning facades. Tessa is the laser-focused academic with her eyes firmly fixed upon a career in neurology, while Kristin exploits her striking looks and undeniable power over men to carve out a single-minded path to fame and fortune as a model and actress; an ambition she also holds for her sister. But, on the night of the pair’s debut as top-tier models, and with a high-profile movie role in the bag, tragedy strikes the twins in the form of a cruel acid attack by an unknown assailant. Thus, a gruesome chain of events begins - one that leaves a trail of blood, death, and devastation behind both Tessa and Kristin. As Tessa fights to rebuild her life and uncover the truth behind the attack, she finds herself getting closer and closer to an uncomfortable truth about her sister and her search for the truth turns into a nightmare struggle to stay alive.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dark Beauty by Blake Rudman. Suspense/ thriller. Just wow. How much suspense can one author fill a book with. Twin sisters, so profoundly different. A dirty twist of fate, self destructive, selfish choices and their whole world changes. Tesse is beautiful, intelligent, sweet natured, hard working and wants to heal the world. Kristen is selfish, cruel, uses her beauty to gain everything, doesn't care who she crushes and she wants to rule the world. She is going to be a model and so is Tesse, whether she wants to or not. They take the world by the balls but that's not enough for Kristen. I grew up in California, I knew girls like Kristen. Beautiful and cruel, they made my life hell in school. Parts of this story made me cringe in remembrance. This book is just so well written! At times my skin crawled and the anticipation of what was going to happen next drove me crazy (when I had to put the book down).
This was my first Blake Rudman book, He's quite the talented writer. I enjoy the way that I anticipate what's going to happen, but he twists it around and the expected is the unexpected. I would love to talk about this book more but I keep realizing almost anything I say could be a spoiler!!! Great characters, outstanding plot and the ending was perfect! Fantastic book, I highly recommend it!!! I'd like to thank Blake Rudman and Hellbound books for the copy.
I should know by now to not start a book by Blake before bed, because I just wind up staying up too late because I need to know what happens next. At the end of the first chapter I literally said “oh holy shite, I wonder where he’s going to go from here” out loud to my best friend, who clearly had no idea what I was talking about. Blake was able to write a character that I despised, even over and above what I guessed her back story would be. I couldn’t set this down, and had to follow the dark and twisty trails of a severely messed up mind to the conclusion. This is a super engaging read and had me hooked the whole time.
Tessa and Kristen Morgan are identical twins who couldn’t be more different. Tessa is going to UCLA to study to become a neurologist and Kristen is planning to use her looks to break into modeling. Kristen brings Tessa with her to her first audition and the twins because a package deal. With differing goals and clashing interests, tempers rise and fights are had. Who is willing to risk the most to get what they want?
Thanks to Henry Roi PR for the copy to review, all thoughts are my own.
Dark Beauty by Blake Rudman is a gripping thriller that left me thoroughly engrossed from start to finish. The author skillfully weaves a tale of suspense and mystery, introducing us to the complex lives of identical twins Tessa and Kristin Morgan. The stark differences between the sisters, both in their personalities and ambitions, form the core of the narrative. Tessa's unwavering determination and Kristin's seductive allure create a captivating dynamic that reminded me of the iconic characters from the film "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane."
The plot unfolds with the pacing being pretty well balanced, keeping me on the edge of my seat throughout. The acid attack that befalls the sisters serves as a catalyst, setting off a chain of events that lead Tessa on a treacherous path of self-discovery. The search for truth becomes a harrowing journey filled with unexpected twists and turns, evoking a sense of anticipation and suspense.
Rudman's ability to delve into the depths of the human psyche is commendable. The exploration of the complex relationship between the twins, their desires, and the secrets they harbor adds a compelling layer to the story. Also, the author's writing style is engaging and descriptive, painting vivid pictures of the characters and their surroundings. I found myself fully immersed in the glamorous and cutthroat world of fashion and entertainment, where the lines between beauty and deception blur.
Overall, Dark Beauty is a gripping thriller that skillfully combines elements of mystery, suspense, and psychological depth. Its echoes of "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" add an extra layer of intrigue that fans of the classic film will appreciate. Blake Rudman has crafted a mesmerizing tale that keeps readers hooked from beginning to end. I highly recommend this book to those seeking a thrilling and atmospheric read.
I loved this! It was so interesting to read about the differences between the two twins. One was light and one was dark. I loved trying to get into Kristin’s head, especially through Tessa. The ending was just want I needed to feel satisfied with the story. Good job!! Definitely recommend!
I was given a copy to review for a book tour by Henry Roi PR. Reviews are always honest and all opinions are my own. I will always try to avoid spoilers in all reviews as well. #DarkBeauty #HenryRoiPR #BlakeRudman #AD #HellBoundBooks #BookReview
Review Dark Beauty had me gripped from the start. I have to say I wasn’t sure it would with it focusing on models but Rudman drags you in and makes it difficult to put down! We focus on Tessa and Kristin Morgan who are identical twins, both exquisitely beautiful, and have the world at their feed; they are also profoundly different beneath their stunning facades. Tessa is a laser-focused academic wanting a career in neurology Kristin on the other hand exploits her striking looks and undeniable power over men to carve out a single-minded path of fame and fortune. An ambition she holds for her sister. But on the night of their debut as top-tier models and with a high-profile movie in the bag, tragedy strikes the twins in the form of an accident attack. This starts a gruesome chain of events leaving a trail of blood, death and devastation behind the Morgan twins. As Tessa builds to rebuild her life and uncover the truth behind the attack she finds herself entangled in a nightmare with her sister seemingly in the middle.
This was another brilliant novel by Rudman. I was hooked from the start. Rudman is a master at delving into the human psyche and both the best and worst they have to offer. I have to say I did not like Kristin at all, but I am sure we are not meant to. Tessa on the other hand was likeable if not a bit too nice if you ask me. I don’t think I could be so forgiving after all Kristin did. The other characters were also well rounded and I adored Daniel who was honestly so well written. Being the second Rudman novel I’ve read I have to say I adore the way he makes and fleshes out his characters. You cannot help but get invested in their lives and what is happening.
On top of this the plot, pacing and of course writing, are brilliant. It really keeps you hooked and wondering what will happen next. I enjoyed learning bits of the past matched in with the present and it helped build the picture as we continue on with the story. I also loved the little nods to Edgar Allen Poe throughout as well! If you enjoy fast paced thrillers with a share of violence, death and destruction this is the one for you. You honestly will not be disappointed with this one, it’s a wild ride that is almost impossible to put down. Solid 5 stars.
Thank you to the Black Crow PR for providing me with a digital copy for the book tour. All opinions remain 100% my own.
This was a classic Parent Trap twin swap to evil proportions!
What I enjoyed the most was the sadistic internal monologue of Kristen. She spewed some really dark stuff and was rather frightening as a character, but beneath it all you could see that something had gone terribly wrong somewhere in her life, as everything felt like self sabotage and fueled by self hatred. It was hard to see her burn bridges with everyone in her life who genuinely loved and cared for her because deep down she wasn't able to trust that anybody could work without an ulteria motive. She was the perfect villan and it was interesting to see how opposite to her sister she was.
On the flip side we had Tessa, the white Swan and good twin. She almost felt too good to be true. I definitely aligned myself more with her values in life but she did feel very try hard and completely polar opposite. I think if I was her, I would have snapped as soon as her medical career went in a different direction. I thought her relationship with Daniel felt like a picture perfect fairytale and I loved that they found their way back to eachother, even if it did feel a bit too wishful thinking (I guess I'm pretty cynical).
I felt like the interactions between characters didn't feel genuine and it was hard to imagine young people talked like that (I work in a college and not too far, my uni days and I couldn't imagine these sentence structures coming out of their mouths).
Around two thirds of the way through, the story really flipped but it felt like it became two stories smooshed together. I liked both parts but it felt very jarring in contrast to how the book started. It felt like a completely different genre and story.
Side note - confusion at the name spelling. Kristen was spelled either like that or as Kristin so I was never really sure.
Overall, this was a fun thriller, with work needing to be done to snatch that pacing between the two halves a bit better and a little more work on believable dialogue between the younger characters.
Blake Rudman writes in a proactive way that makes me fully hate one of the characters, and that is how already knew this book was worth 5 stars. Kristin is a young woman who simply doesn’t take no for an answer and wants everyone’s lives to revolve around her. She was a sweet girl at one point in her past but she allowed herself to become a bitter queen in a world of Hollywood filth.
I enjoyed what I believe were subtle Epstein references as well as Weinstein, taking jabs at their infamy. Los Angeles as a whole was explained in a way I appreciated too in the sense that many cities that surround L.A. are technically part of the big city but still shouldn’t technically be called L.A. because they simply aren’t. If you’re from the area then you know what I mean. City of Long Beach pulls the same malarkey but that’s a different matter.
Anyways, I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would!
Dark Beauty pulled me in from the first chapter and kept me on the edge of my seat!!
Tessa and Kristin, stunningly beautiful, identical twins are as different as night and day. Tessa plans on being a neurosurgeon and is working toward that goal. Kristin will do whatever it takes to enter the world of modeling, even sabotaging her sister's dream.
The twins are top tier models and now movie star celebrities when the unthinkable happens. An acid attack which destroys their faces and careers.
As Tessa struggles to overcome this tragedy, she finds out Kristin, in her twisted way, is out for revenge.
I love the good and evil concept of the twins, and this book was a page turner for me as I had to know what happened!
Thank you so much Blake Rudman for this ebook, in exchange for my honest review. I can’t wait to read more of your books!
I'm not even entirely sure where to begin with this review so I will start with this
Blake Rudman is a genius with bringing you a story that has you screaming what just happened? Dark Beauty is about twin sisters who could not be more different. They are quite literally night and day!
Tessa is the golden child, the one who sails through life seemingly easy. That's not to say her life is easy, because it's not. She works hard for her goals and works hard to keep her twin, her other half happy through it all.
Kristin has had a hard go and harbors a secret that has led to her own self destruction. She believes that only her beauty and her body can help her achieve the goals she has set for herself and she is not afraid to use them.
But what happens when that beauty is ripped away from them both? What happens when one twin thinks her goal is now to correct t the wrongs she feels has been done to her and her self-worth? Well I suppose you'll have to read Dark Beauty to find all of that out.
Dark Beauty is a compulsively readable thriller by Blake Rudman. As the second book of his that I have had the recent pleasure of reading I can honestly say that this one is my favorite (so far). I will definitely seek out more of his work.
Centering around a set of twin sisters this book seamlessly navigates past and present while keeping the reader engaged and page turning as the story unfolds. Once the whole story unravels I found myself feeling empathy for the antagonist while still rooting for the protagonist. I would encourage fans of the thriller genre to check this one out.
Wow! I loved this how genius Blake was writing about the rivalry of twin sisters. It was riveting, creating a page turning thriller that you are unable to put down. Tessa and Kristen are like day and night, light and darkness, good and evil. Blake writes both beautifully. The contrast between the two is so well written that you will love one and hate the other. Blake Rudman did not disappoint. This was a captivating dark thriller and I will definitely be reading more of his work.

Spoilers: Blake Rudman's Psychological Thriller, Dark Beauty, is a twisted tale of a pair of twins who are tarnished by ambitions for beauty, fame, wealth, and revenge.
Identical twins, Tessa and Kristin Morgan are on the eve of superstardom. The former models turned actresses are coming off the premiere of Dark Beauty, a critically acclaimed box office hit film that is already receiving Oscar buzz. Well most of the acclaim is directed towards Tessa who is being hailed as the latest discovery since Jennifer Lawrence. As for Kristin, well "wooden" and "erratic" are some of the kindest comments. The twins' argument is interrupted by a stalker who sprays acid on both twin's faces leaving them with physical and eventually mental and emotional scars. Most of the book takes us to the twins' lives before the accident and sudden fame and their lives afterwards.
Dark Beauty does the usual theme of the good twin vs. bad twin, but thankfully subverts expectations by giving Tessa and Kristin subtleties and facets that break stereotypes to be interesting individuals who are caught up in a continuous rivalry and duality that probably has been going on since the two shared a womb.
Chronologically, Tessa and Kristin first appear during their senior year in high school when both are seen as pretty, popular, and smart but Tessa is favored by their parents and peers while Kristin retreats into sullen rebellion. It gives the impression that Kristin at one time tried to be as nice and scholarly a girl as Kristin, but the comparisons wore on her so she gave up and stood away from her sister in a self imposed isolation.
Ironically, after graduation Kristin wants Tessa to join her in a modeling career instead of going to UCLA and medical school to become a doctor. She says that it's because twins are a rare angle for agencies, photographers, and advertisers to explore, but it could just as easily be that she believes that Tessa has the same ambitions and desires that she does and wants to share the glamorous life with her.
Tessa however has her own goals and identity to discover. She has wanted to be a doctor since she was five and loves her sweet boyfriend, Daniel so she is ready to start her own life. But Kristin is a narcissist, along with displaying symptoms from some other mental disorders suggesting that she is a very troubled woman. Kristin only considers what she wants so she spikes Tess's bottled water with LSD so she'll bomb her final exam. So her only option is to leave UCLA and join her sister into the modeling field.
Of course, Tess gets the laugh when their careers change from modeling to acting. Tess works hard to study her role of the bad sinister twin in the movie (no doubt by a slight case of Method acting by taking on her sister's attributes to play the role). Kristin however falls into addiction and partying with an endless stream of men which affects her performance. Tess who never wanted to be an actress or model gets praised while just like when they were kids, Kristin is ignored.
While Tess is mostly hard working, kind, and intelligent while Kristin is scheming, self-centered, and aggressive there are times when their personalities don't shift so much as their good/bad twin dichotomy becomes fuzzy. Tess at times behaves very cold and self righteous especially regarding Kristin's behavior. Kristin displays a self-sufficiency and a sharp mind that allows her to survive despite adversity.
Perhaps this is why Tess is able to play the part of the bad twin in the movie so well. She isn't playing her polar opposite based on her sister. She is playing her own subterranean thoughts, things that she always wanted to do but hid behind a good girl veneer. After the scarring, she retreats into her self-pity and depression. It is only when she discovers what Kristin has been doing that she takes control of her own life. To do that, she has to be as angry, controlling, manipulative, and scheming as her sister. She has to out-Kristin Kristin in reality not in cinema.
Kristin herself shows much of her strength and self-sufficiency in her post-scarring. Ironically, without Tess around she shows a great deal of intelligence and control of her life instead of being thought of as always second to Tess. Her career after the scarring is too juicy to get into but it displays not only her dark nature but her ability to put herself forward, away from her sister.
The twins' confrontations are as tense and suspenseful as accusations are made and secrets are revealed. Together they reveal the beauty and the ugliness inside the darkness.

Much like the twin protagonists of the novel, I'm in two minds about Dark Beauty. It's a compelling, dramatic tale charting the rise and fall of two twins, Tessa and Kristin, in the star-studded world of Hollywood, filled with likeable characters and all the guts and glory fame entails. However, the book is described primarily as a noir thriller, and the structure of the novel just didn't reflect that.
One thing I often find when reading novels with twins as the protagonists is that the characters have similar narrative voices that make them difficult to tell apart. Rudman's Tessa and Kristin could not be more different in how they tell their stories. Their narrative voices are unique and easy to distinguish between so you never forget which twin is telling her story at any given moment. Rudman also excels at keeping the events of the story in line enough that there is almost no repetition of events in either Tessa or Kristin's chapters - what little there is actively gives a new perspective on the events and does not last long. The novel itself is well-written and fast-paced, marvellously easy and enjoyable to read.
However, having read a previous novel of Rudman's, I found the thriller element lacking in Dark Beauty. The novel begins in the middle of the story: the twins are celebrating their film's premiere when they become victims to an acid attack, changing the course of their lives irrevocably. The novel then shifts to chart their rise to fame interspersed with the recovery process, which, while interesting and dramatic, is not particularly thrilling in a typical sense. The last third of the novel is where the real thriller comes into play, picking up two years after the acid attack. This section of the novel is told almost exclusively through Tessa's perspective and, while it follows the beats of a thriller, I didn't find it all that thrilling.
Let me explain. As much as I enjoyed the characters of Tessa and Daniel and their interactions with each other, the final third of the novel had no tension, purely because I knew the characters would be safe. Their attempts to infiltrate the club disguised as Kristin and her new bodyguard went perfectly with no hitches, meaning there was no real risk present in the final race against time. Around every corner there seemed to be some deus ex machina waiting for the characters; Daniel's "super" gadgets were awfully convenient, and Kristin kept a lot of information on her computer that I personally would only ever keep on my person. The only scene in which I actually felt a little scared for Tessa was her final scene with Kristin, as I truly felt I had no idea what was going to happen.
This doesn't mean Dark Beauty is a bad novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the drama of the first two-thirds and found Tessa and Kristin's struggles with fame absolutely compelling, to the point where the book became unputdownable. In comparison, the final act seems tame and rushed. I honestly think it's the structure that's to blame; having all three sections together - the fame, the recovery, and the aftermath - would have drawn out some tension and made the whole novel feel more like a real thriller.
That being said, I still love the story. The first chapter is an absolute gut-punch, and it's a true marvel in character development. Strong writing, strong characters, and interesting premises are Rudman's strongpoint, and I just hope his next novel is strong on structure too.
I was offered a copy of this book with a request for an honest review.
What a twisted read this was! A story of twin sisters: Kristin and Tessa - the epitome of light and dark represented in each. Tessa wants to be a doctor and is heading to med school while Kristin wants to be rich and famous. To ensure her future, Kristin uses every means possible to drag her sister into the world she wants because she knows that to achieve her stardom, she's going to need her twin sister.
Utilizing their beauty for a modeling career quickly turns their lives upside down when they do in fact achieve success. But that success comes with a price and Kristin doesn't like how much attention her sweet and loving sister gets.
The character of Kristin made my skin crawl - she's deeply disturbed, dangerous and will do anything to get what she wants. But a terrible accident befalls both of them when their beauty is marred just at the peak of their success. All Kristin can think about is revenge and all Tessa can think about is whether her fiancé will still love her even after the accident.
A story about the depths some people will go to have the things they want, even if it means they have to take down their own family to get it. Tessa's character is the balance to Kristin with her sweet demeanor and caring attitude for everyone she interacts with.
The writing style alternates between perspectives of the sisters and also jumps back and forth from present to past to help fill in information as the events unfold. I am a big fan of this form of writing as it keeps me always hanging on wondering what happened before and how that impacts things happening now in the story. The pacing was good, but does feel somewhat like it gets hung up at times when focusing on the past elements. While it gets a little slow, the information provided is essential to understanding the sisters' dynamic and is overall necessary.
Overall, I enjoyed the contrasting emotions and attitudes in this story. It could have been improved slightly with a little more information on some of the supporting characters, such as someone in Kristin's life that was consistent or that had been a part of her development - but her relationship with her sister is the only constant. This is what the story is really all about; their dynamics and downfall.
Thank you to the author, Blake Rudman, for my copy of Dark Beauty in exchange for an honest review.
I wanted to like this. I really did. But it just did not work for me. The start of the novel was really strong but after that, it just did not work out for me. I know the author is trying to show how Kristin and Tessa were handling their accident differently and I did like that but when the 'Then' chapters came into view, I found myself finding it cringy.
Kristin is a horrible human being. By the end, the author shows why she is the way she is but it is not really a believable reasoning why she's evil like that. Like hello drugging your sister? She's so evil that it becomes unbelievable how she even managed to stay in that movie and how Tessa can still make excuses for her.
Tessa. God, Tessa. She's such a pushover. I know in real life that if you really love someone as manipulative as Kristin you will find ways to excuse them but this whole thing just infuriated me. I know there has been confrontation between her and Kristin but that's just not enough. She basically enabled the addiction and let her walk all over her. I definitely did not like any of the characters. The characters are just either too dramatic, too single minded or too in love. It's kind of unbelieveable.
The dialogue was just too forced depending on the scene. I feel myself internally cringing while reading.
The story has so much potential but it just fell flat. It's not really something I'd consider as dark but I feel like more re-writing and editing and this would've been better. I'm really sorry for not liking this.
Thank you so much to Hellbound Publishers for the review copy in exchange for a review! All opinions are my own.
After reading (and loving) Rudman's book Redline, I was predicting Dark Beauty to also be a five-star read. It surpassed any and every expectation I had for it! Absolutely addicting thriller.
The action drew me in right away and didn't let go. My heart was racing throughout the book. I felt invested in the storyline, especially with what would happen with Tess's future career. The characters are alluring and perfectly matched. Twin sisters- Tess is the good sister- she wants to be a doctor and is very responsible and dedicated to her studies. Unfortunately, she is also a little too amendable to those around her. Kristen is the sister who is evil and willing to do whatever it takes to get to the top- including drugging other characters who she feels will stand in her way. After the night (movie premier where acid gets thrown into their faces) that changes the sister's lives forever, they adapt in somewhat extreme ways. Kristen will go on to seek power in another line of work where she won't have to show her face. Tessa becomes withdrawn and depressed, but still stays true to her core of being the good sister. However, will Kristen go too far with her revenge agenda, or will Tess be able to stop her? An absolute must for those who love heart-pounding thrillers involving both fantastic writing and family elements.
There's nothing complex, suspenseful, thrilling or very dark in this book. It is the story of two identical twins, Kristen and Tessa.
Kristen was a very flawed individual who used her looks and seduction to get what she wanted. Her character wasn't very dimensional and she off as a very selfish individual. Tessa appeared to be a determined, strong individual who always wanted to be a Neurosurgeon. She planned her life and education to that end. However, she allowed herself to be manipulated by Kristen. That didn't just show her love for Kristen but a weakness in her character.
The plot was rather thin. You always knew who and what. You did wonder why Tessa allowed Kristen to get what she wanted. It wasn't just love. There was no real suspense nor was this a very dark thriller. Kristen and Tessa lived up to your expectations. Still, the book held my attention even knowing good would win out.
I was a big fan of Jackie Collins’ books set in Hollywood’s glamorous and cutthroat world. Reading “Dark Beauty,” I sometimes forgot that this wasn’t one of her books. Rudman is that good!
Identical twins, exquisitely beautiful, one saintly, the other evil, one sweet, one bitter. All Tessa had ever wanted was a career in neurology. Kristin wants fame and fortune and will do whatever it takes, even forcing her sister to join her as a model and an actress. On the night they celebrate the wrap of their movie, their lives take a drastic turn when acid is thrown in the twins’ faces.
After numerous surgeries, Tessa begins to rebuild her life. When she uncovers the truth behind the acid attack, she realizes some truths about her sister that are truly shocking.
Suspenseful and riveting from the first page to the last. The plot is fairly predictable, and Tessa is just too saintly. But I loved the story so much, none of that mattered.
Tessa Morgan is beautiful, inside and out, as well as smart enough to be studying premed at UCLA. Her identical twin Kristin is also gorgeous, but something happened to her in her teens that left her bitter and determined to get what she wants for herself at any cost, even if that means ruining her twin sister's dreams. I have to admire Rudman for doing such a good job on character development, but he does almost too good a job of making you despise Kristin: between her horrible actions and Tessa's infuriating ability to forgive her sister, I found it difficult to connect with either character. The first half of the book was interesting but a bit slow, setting up the characters and their backstory. The last section had more action and brought all the loose ends together.
I was gifted a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. All opinions expressed here are my own. 3.5 stars rounded up to 4
Dark Beauty by Blake Rudman is an incredible thriller full of twists and turns that I could not put down. It is extremely rare that I come across a book by chance that connects to me on an emotional level. The novel’s plot is very fast paced and the book is broken into three acts. I thought breaking the novel into acts was so clever because the storyline begins at a movie premiere and follows twin actresses. In my opinion, breaking the story into three acts and having each act focused on a different aspect of the novel made the pace feel fasted and helped me finish the book faster as well. The characters were so well developed and complex which made the story so gripping and compelling. I am always very impressed when I can sympathize and relate to the villain, hero, and victim; although after reading this book I’m not sure those terms appropriately apply. I look forward to reading more books by Blake Rudman in the future. He is incredibly talented and I’m glad I came across him.
Tessa is the laser-focused academic with her eyes firmly fixed upon a career in neurology, while Kristin exploits her striking looks and undeniable power over men to carve out a single-minded path to fame and fortune as a model and actress; an ambition she also holds for her sister.
But, on the night of the pair's debut as top-tier models, and with a high-profile movie role in the bag, tragedy strikes the twins in the form of a cruel acid attack by an unknown assailant. Thus, a gruesome chain of events begins - one that leaves a trail of blood, death, and devastation behind both Tessa and Kristin.
No spoilers from me here. With so many twists and turns from sabotage to kidnap, goodness it kept me gripped. This story is a true page turner. Needless to say I loved this book and would thoroughly recommend you get a copy.
Dark Beauty is a Noir Thriller revolving around the lives of identical twins Tessa and Kristin Morgan whose lives change after an acid attack whilst promoting their latest film
This book had promise but for me there was very little substance. Tessa was focused on academics and wanted to become a neurologist but Kristin wanted to get famous and pursue modelling with the gimmick of them being twins.
Kristin's character was unlikeable from the start and the amount of things she put Tessa through makes it hard to believe that Tessa would want anything to do with her.
The acid attack part of the story was very short and almost an afterthought, we learn early on who did it and why it didn't really add much to the thriller aspect.
I was kindly sent an arc from the publisher but unfortunately this one wasn't my cup of tea.
This is the second work that I have read by the author and it has totally dazzled me, this is a very good thriller.
On this occasion the author brings us the story of identical twins Tessa and Kristin, in this story we will find the search for truth, ambition through the pages with a masterful narrative.
Rudman's way of writing recreates an atmosphere full of intense tension that makes you wonder how it will end and want to read one page after another.
The author has definitely surpassed himself with this work full of thriller, suspense and very charismatic characters.
Twin sisters, Kristin and Tessa, remind me of the yin and yang. One light (Tessa), and one dark (Kristin). Good and evil. Tessa is studying to be a neurosurgeon, and Kristin is an actress. But when an acid attack occurs, and beauty is lost, we learn about their inner workings, their dark secrets. I admit that I did not like the character of Kristin. But I kind of feel that she wasn’t *meant* to be liked. She adds to the tension felt within the story. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and how well it was written. I’ll be checking out more by this author for sure! Many thanks to the author, Blake Rudman, and Hellbound Books Publishing for sending me a copy to read/review.
When I first got offered this book to read in exchange for a review, I very nearly passed on it as going by the cover, I honestly though this was going to be a fantasy, which is not my type of thing at all. So glad I actually read the blurb as it sounded right up my street, and I wasn't disappointed. It was very fast paced and followed the lives of a set of twins, who quite frankly are the good twin and the bad twin, or light and dark as referred to in the book. It follows their lives in a past tense, which explains everything that leads up to the current day. So much going on but not in a confusing way - it was very gritty, and raw and I loved that the ending tied everything up and left nothing unanswered. Really enjoyed this and would highly recommend.
Dark, ominous and full of intrigue. This book gives you every opportunity to think and overthink the reasons behind every action. You look at every possibility, every single lead and link to motive- wondering who would strike such a personal and heinous act on another person. It was so interesting to get to know the twins and their very different personalities, and wishes for their lives. Then to watch as life fell apart and look behind the vary dark curtains of life, trying to solve the mystery- which only got darker as it went on- was very interesting. This was such a brilliant book. Perfect for the long, dark night approaching and great for when you need a dark mystery to really bring your reading to life!
I received a copy of this for free, in exchange for an honest review.
As I began reading, this felt like a dark fantasy, and I felt the writing had a haunting quality that drew me in. I wanted to know more about Tessa and how she had come to be in the situation she was in.
I enjoyed the chemistry between Tessa and Daniel, but the relationship between Tessa and Kristin intrigued me. I feel that the idea of an evil twin or evil sibling, if that's how I may describe it, is something that has been used before, in other stories, but it will always surprise us.
Thank you to Henry Roi PR, and to the author, for a free copy to review.
Explores the complexities of identity and ambition
Dark Beauty is a captivating and intense thriller that explores the complexities of identity, ambition, and the lengths people will go to protect their secrets. Blake Rudman delivers a compelling narrative that keeps readers engaged from start to finish, combining suspense, mystery, and emotional depth. Fans of psychological thrillers and gripping family dramas will find themselves thoroughly engrossed in this tale of tragedy, resilience, and the quest for truth.
This fun noir thriller brings us double the fun with the yin-yang of twins. One good and one evil. One didn’t start off evil but life threw her curveballs that turned her understandably bitter but she used that bitterness to take control of her life by taking control of others around her including her very own sweet twin sister. I loved the dark and light opposing dynamics of this story. The writing was fluid and easy to get lost in, making it a delicious read. It had murder, secrets, love, bloody vengeance, and greed all tied in a pretty deadly quid pro quo bow. Highly recommend it!
Dark Beauty is a really good, sucks you in thriller that cranks up right from the start and just keeps going until the end.
We follow two identical twin sisters who couldn't be more unlike each other. They have a very tense, love hate relationship. Tessa would do anything for Kristin, but not so much the other way around. Unless you count sabotage and lying as love?
Tessa's on her way to becoming a doctor, working her way through med school, while Kristin is trying to get established as a model. Kristin ropes Tessa in and won't let her go even when Tessa says she won't drop out of school. She's dead set on becoming a doctor, but Kristin's not so sure. What lengths will the not so good twin go to get and keep herself successful?
This is a solid thriller, and I really enjoyed it from start to finish. Thank you for the ARC!
