Another great read from Eliot. I love her characters, they are all very real and believable. Gwendolen is a spoilt young woman who escapes to her cousins to play with Grandcourt’s emotions when she knows he wants to propose. She soon comes home when her mother writes to say the family fortune has been lost. Suddenly, Mr. Grandcourt’s proposal seems much more attractive.

Trapped in a loveless marriage, Gwendolen becomes increasingly reliant on Daniel Deronda, but he is on a quest to find out his family history and is in love with someone else.

All in all a very good read. I do love the classics.
