Like so many romance readers, my first romance novel was by Kathleen Woodiwiss - The Flame and the Flower, to be exact. I was thirteen. I spent the next month working my way through her entire back list. Shortly thereafter I discovered Judith McNaught, Johanna Lindsey, Karen Robards, Catherine Coulter, Shirlee Busbee among others, and devoured their lavish historical epics full of overbearing alpha males and the women who brought them to their knees. I was hooked. My high school teachers marveled at my ability to read romance novels under the desk and still score straight A's. I started to imagine myself, living in a cabin in the mountains somewhere, writing romance novels.

It took me quite awhile to pursue my dream. After graduating from Stanford with a degree in English Literature, I worked in a variety of soul sucking admin jobs before I began my career in marketing. It wasn't exactly my dream job, but at least my writing appeared on several web sites and in many software marketing brochures. Unfortunately I wasn't able to fit the phrase "and her loins melted like hot wax" into any of them.

During my stint as the world's surliest receptionist, I took my first stab at writing. The result was a very melodramatic western historical which reads like a bad Elizabeth Lowell rip off. Its currently languishing on my hard drive, forever stuck on page 330.

Then in fall 2001 I had an incredible stroke of luck and got laid off from my marketing job. I decided it was time to stop saying I wanted to be a writer and to actually give it a serious go. Fortunately my husband, a socially well adjusted alpha male, is a very generous patron of the arts.

Four years later, I sold my first book and I'm pretty much living the dream of getting paid to write romance. I don't live in a cabin in the mountains, but I do live in a rural-ish town near San Francisco (hey, we have deer and bunnies in our yard, along with the occasional coyote) with my husband, sons, and two dogs who patiently listen to my dialogue and help me work out plot points. When I'm not writing sexy romance, I enjoy running, reading, yoga and watching Food Network and bad reality TV.

A lightweight and pleasant erotic romance. Nothing kinky. Just vanilla sex and lots of it.
It gets points for quoting the movie The Princess Bride. It also gets points off for the excessive product placement (a pet peeve of mine).
For all you Size Queens out there, this features a 9-incher ;-)

This is the first book I have read by this author. I really liked it, I admit I had some problems with it, but otherwise it was a good, very light read for me.
It's not an overly original story. Girl marries boy, boy's brother loves girl, boy cheats on girl (at their wedding reception) and brother gets girl.
My problem with the story was the heroine. To me she gets married...well to be married. She is not the most intelligent of heroines, she comes across wishy-washy and too flighty to me to really stand behind. When she catches her new husband cheating on her, she decides she must have revenge, so she sets out to seduce his brother.
I am not a big fan of the revenge plot either.
Soon, she realizes she is very attracted to Chris (the brother) and sets out to win him for real.
What I did like was the heroe's character Chris. He is a very likable, beta hero that deserves a happy ending...I just don't know if he will get it with Julie.
If you are offended by strong language or explicit sex, this book is not for you.
Despite the 3 stars, I did like this book. I just didn't love it and it won't be part of my keeper shelf.

This is a first-read of this author and I was very pleased. The plot is not too intense and the premise is not a new one (guy wants the girl who marries his brother), but the pacing and tone with which Alden tells the story makes it an enjoyable afternoon's entertainment.

Initially, the heroine, Julie, doesn't seem overly bright. She's marrying a man who is a jerk and she knows it. But that's probably more like real life than not. She does show her grit early on and Alden does a credible job of sharing Julie's thoughts and motivations. She's likeable enough and you can't help but cheer her on.

Chris is a laid-back beta hero but his bio alone persuades you that he's got some inner strength. He's also funny and charming and you can't help but hope all turns right in his world.

Just 248 trade-size pages, it's definitely good for an afternoon or evening's entertainment.

This is the 1st book I have read by Jami Alden and it was FANTASTIC! I will definately be reading more by this author!

It was steamy from the start and heated up the further i got into the book, lol!!

At her wedding reception Julie finds her new husband Bryan doing the dirty with his new Secretery Vanessa and later finds comfort in the arms of her former best friend who happens to be his half brother.

She follows Chris back to the private resort he runs in the carribean and the story is full steam ahead from then on... It was a fantatsic read.

This is a very steamy book that I absolutley adored. Any woman could completely relate to this book. Hilarious at times, I've even laughed out loud. Oddly enough, there is also a twisted version of suspense included.

I don't really know why, but this book just didn't do it for me. The sex could have been hot, but I didn't feel the chemistry between hero and heroine.
Julie was awful, and I hated how she tried to make Chris believe that she just wanted sex- dishonest and stupid. The miscommunication between them was there from the beginning and got on my nerves before I reached the middle of the book.
Personally, I found that condom-business irritating...I always think: isn't there a way around it in FICTION, for god's sake? I have no need for too much realism in erotica, and condoms are a PEST. Especially since I'm a fan of messy orgasms, I admit.
The hero is dark-haired, the heroine blond- I like it vice versa, but that isn't a huge problem (I dye the characters' hair in my mind constantly,so nothing unusual). BUT: the blond heroine was a problem since she behaved somehow cliche-like BLOND- made the dying-process hardly impossible, I just hated her. She behaves utterly childish and stupid, and Chris wasn't gorgeous enough to make up for it, though he tried. Sorry- not my book.

I really enjoyed the book up until the last 75 pages or so, the love scenes were VERY steamy but got repetetive towards the end...I mean these people were doing it like 5x a day everyday! I'm surprised they didn't drop dead from sheer exhaustion. Also the ending seemed very rushed the whole "conflict" of them not being able to be together took 20 pages max to wrap up before they decided they couldn't live another minute without eachother.

Fair - although I occasionally wanted to whack the so-called heroine over the head!

Really enjoyable erotic romance. I am taking off one star for the label whore moments which made me feel as if I were watching one of the shows from the Kardashian franchise. Describe pretty clothes, but making overt reference to Chloe and Jimmy Choo is so new money. The main character is held up as a paragon of good breeding and elegance. As such, while she may buy Dior, she would never discuss having done so. Also, no one wears 4 inch heels for a walk on the sand. That walk would be slow and dangerous and it would destroy the shoes.

One issue I often have with these sorts of books is that the authors and editors (if any exist) are unable to compose a good sentence or string together a proper paragraph. Often I find improperly used words, which makes my teeth hurt. (I recently read a book where the author repeatedly used the word "shuttered" rather than "shuddered." I could not finish the book.) No matter how good the story, I find it painful to read things that appear to have been written in the author's 14th language. Jami Alden can write. I haven't done any research, but I would not be surprised to learn she teaches people to write. Private Party is light, fluffy, romantic, sexy, relatable (sort of), well-written; What's not to like?

I wasn't particularly thrilled with this book. Julie discovers her new husband Brian having sex in the closet with his secretary at their wedding reception, so she decides to throw the wedding cake in his face. Then Julie goes to the hotel room of his half-brother Chris and decides to have sex with him on her wedding night. A couple weeks later Julie then decides to take a vacation at Chris's tropical island resort. Julie meets four girls of a bachelorette party and four guys in a diving party at the resort. There is also Carla, Chris's cousin who works with him and Wendy, Julie's best-friend back home, as well as the bride and groom's parents. I would have to say that about a lot of the characters in this book have disgusting intentions or actions either all of the time or some of the time in the story, including: Julie's parents and Brian's parents, her jerk of a husband Brian, her husband's half-brother Chris, Kara from the bachelorette party, Mike from the diving party, and even her friend Wendy. Unless you haven't read too many of these type of erotic romance novels, there wasn't anything particularly inspiring or novel about the sex scenes in this book.

I felt bad for Julie. Finding your new husband having sex with his assistant during your wedding reception was a tough blow. Add to that the fact that he took his assistant on what was supposed to be your honeymoon.

What is a girl to do? Well, sleep with your husband's brother of course.

Chris, the brother has always had a thing for Julie. Sleeping with her on what was supposed to be her wedding night made his dreams come true. Walking away from her was just something he had to do.

A few weeks later she shows up on his private island and sparks kept right on flying. They rediscovered their friendship, had lots of hot sex and slowly but surely fell in love.

The road to happiness was not smooth sailing. Her father and her husband showed up on the island to threaten her and make her do the right thing and come home. She rebelled and found herself cut off from her trust fund.

She found work at a neighboring island and that is where Chris found her.

While she was gone Chris realized how much in love with her he was so when he found her, he didn't hesitate and proposed to her.

Weird but I KNOW I read this. I knew things that were going to happen before they happened but I had never marked it as read, so I don't know what is up with that. I was going to say I didn't finish it before but I'm pretty sure I did because nothing surprised me.

Still was dull and boring this time around. Ok, but not great.

Yay, Kindle Unlimited!

I’d read the 2nd book in the series only & enjoyed it so much I’d wanted to read the rest. But it wasn’t available @ the nearby library & I was too cheap to actually buy the book (electronic or print).

Chris & Julie’s intimate moments sizzled, their out-of-bed interactions were sweet & believable, and the secondary characters provided a great backdrop (not distracting & not useless).

I don’t quite remember Carla & Sam’s story (it had been years!) ... dunno whether I’ll reread it or just skip to Wendy & Drew’s tale.

And Jane ends up with her bodyguard, even after the fabulous wedding Julie planned/arranged for her?!

I enjoyed reading this erotica romance novel. It was nothing over the moon but I liked the balance between the love and sex aspect of the storyline. The story started off a bit weird for me with the revenge sex with her husband’s brother on her wedding night but eventually I started liking the protagonists and understanding the energy between them and why they would be drawn to each other.

This was a 2 star predictable plot but with some 4 star funny parts. Don't get me wrong, I read romance, I expect predictable but this was a dull one.

So 3 stars. I really wanted to like it better but it just fell flat.

A light story of the wrong brother who proves to be Mr. Right, with loads of steamy interludes. The heroine is a little rich kid who proves that there's a lot more to her than others give her credit for.

I've owned this book for ages, but somehow it got packed away in my old apartment, never saw the light of day at our old house, and was only just unearthed a few months ago while unpacking books at the new house. This was a happy turn of events, as I have been looking for light reads to help me ease back into reading physical books. (I've been reading mostly audiobooks or e-books lately, and not nearly as many as in years past.)

Private Party is a quick, light read with some very hot sex. Nothing kinky, just straight-up vanilla hot. There was a review on Goodreads that mentions size, which cracked me up but is also definitely worth mentioning. Hey, it's erotica, right? Chris is big without being laughably big. Every time I read about a 12-incher, I roll my eyes. 9 is nothing to scoff at, to be sure, but not unrealistic either.

Unlike some of the erotica that I have read recently - I'm lookin' at you, Fifty Shades! - this one actually has a decent story. Poor Julie discovers her brand-new husband banging his secretary at their wedding reception, and she decides to throw off the shackles of her old life and go after what she truly wants for once. This lands her in the hotel room of Chris, her husband's brother and an old crush. Needless to say, this get steamy fast. Chris leaves in the morning to get back to his regularly scheduled life, but Julie hasn't quite had enough. She follows him back to his resort on St. Thomas - not as stalkerish as it sounds, I promise - in hopes of enticing him back into her bed. Sexy hijinks ensue. Chris is a little macho but not IN YOUR FACE ALPHA DOUCHEBAG so it totally works.

I know a few people will have problems with how much Julie allows her family's expectations to rule her life, but let me just say this: When you come from a family that has traditionally made these decisions for everyone, high society or not, it's tough to realize that you are actually allowed to make your own decisions. So long as you can live with the consequences, of course. I was proud of her for finally taking her own path.

They were best friends in college, even though they weren't supposed to be.

They were about to become in-laws, even though the bride didn't love the groom.

They are going to make a lot of people angry, even though them being together is harmless.

Julie and Chris were friends in college, even after Chris's father told him to stay away from her. After college they drifted apart and Julie started dating Chris's younger brother. On the day Julie got married and found her new husband having sex with someone else during their reception Julie and Chris became reacquainted.

They reconnected and spent the night together as both of them had always wanted; but now Julie is staying at Chris's island resort and wants to keep their relationship going.

After wanting Julie for so long Chris isn't willing or dumb enough to turn her down so they spend a lot of time together, but Chris wants more than just a fling.

When Julie's life comes rushing back at her full force she has to make some decisions and remember that she only has to please one person, herself.

Julie and Chris were just so cute together. I loved that they were basically besties in college, even though Julie was younger than Chris.

What I didn't love was Julie "husband", father, and Chris's father. They were all jerks and find of awful people.

This was a pretty light hearted story with a lot of steamy sex thrown in to make it oh so much better.

This was a great book to read on the plane. It was light, not too much angst and just the right about of sizzle. I loved the start of this book, which finds the heroine getting married to a complete jerk that can’t even wait until the cake is cut before cheating on her. In the aftermath of the scene the bride, our heroine, makes we find the she’s raced off to a tropical island resort owned and operated by her brother-in-law (aka the hero). As the dust settles, the history between the hero and heroine are shared with us through a variety of ways, some reminiscing, some flash-backs, some internal monologues. This keeps the story moving but allows us to get a better feel for the characters, especially the heroine who I was having trouble understanding why she married the jerk in the first place.

I was a little disappointed with the hero’s response towards the end of the novel but have to admit that Jami Alden did keep his reaction to event s within his character. If I could write, I probably would have been tempted to get him to do something more romantic, and completely out of character which would have ruined the book. So well done Jami for not weakening the way I would have. There are a few supporting characters but this story does focus mainly on the hero and heroine which help make it a fast book to read.

very good story. Julie was supposed to be married to his brother but an incident in which Julie caught her just husband with his assistant in a closet at their wedding reception has changed all that. She goes to the one person who could make things better Chris(best man & brother of the groom) who has had a crush on her since they were in high school. Being told to stay away that he wasn't good enough was what he heard & not wanting to cause Julie any harm he never fought for her. When she ends up at his resort he cant' keep away & they rekindle their friendship & heat up a relationship to top all others. But as usual her father & Brian (the husband) show up to force her home, her father telling her to stay married to Brian for at least 2 yrs or he would cut her off she makes her decision to go home settle things & return to Chris. Chris believing she's caved to family pressure again treats her like everyone else does as if she doesn't have a brain & that daddy has won again. Heartbroken she leaves but not to return to her home, she sets out on her own to prove to herself that she can make it on her own. Can she do this? Can she get over Chris? Will Chris finally admit that he loves Julie? Can Chris find Julie & make up for all that he said & make her forgive him?

Julie Driscoll finds her husband having sex with his assistant Vanessa in a closet at their wedding reception. She wants revenge and figures she deserves her honeymoon. She's always been attracted to Chris Dennison, her brother-in-law, what better person to help her out.

Chris takes her up on her offer and they have an incredible night of sex. At the end of their night of hot sex, Chris leaves her a note telling her if she ever feels the need for a vacation to show up at his resort. He never thought she would actually show up, but she does and things heat up.

Things are going really until her father and his brother show up at the resort to take her home. Her father threatens to disinherit her if she doesn't go back home with them.

Julie was raised with the proverbial silver spoon but her character didn't come across as that. Chris was the blacksheep of an equally wealthy family. Their relationship seems almost fated to be doomed.

There is a lot of chemistry between Julie and Chris. The sex is hot and there is a lot of it.

Overall, great read with steamy, hot sex and romance.

Highly recommend.
