This book is a great book but yet it is a sad book. Very close to the end I wanted to punch the natzis in their faces (including hitler).

While I personally love the story of Anne Frank, I didn’t particulary like this format... And I will be honest, I only picked this up to fulfill a prompt for a readathon my library is hosting!
I do hope to read the actual Anne Frank book soon, but this was a good overview of the story so I can know what to expect when going into the real thing!

Anne Frank
Grace Hamor
I recently read the Diary of Anne Frank in graphic novel form, it really put her life in a different perspective for me.Anne Frank is a young twelve year old Jewish girl living in the time of the holocaust with her family.Anne had been living a normal life until the Nazi’s started to invade, Anne was born in Frankfurt Germany but when the depression started her father-Otto Frank-decided to move his family to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. They hadn’t been there for very long when Jews started being captured by the Nazi’s and put into concentration camps, this forced Anne’s family into hiding.A friend of her dads who wasn’t Jewish hid them in the attic of his building, Anne called this place the Secret Annex. Before they moved into the secret annex Anne’s father bought her a diary to write in and tell her thoughts since she would have no friends to talk to.She wrought in her diary all the time she would address her diary entries to an imaginary friend that she called Kitty.

SPOILERS
Anne is taken to a concentration camp with everyone in the attic, she and Margot tragically died only a month or two before all of the concentration camps were shut down and Germany was defeated. Her father had survived and one of the girls who hid him in the attic brought Anne’s diary to him which after some editing was published. And is now a graphic novel.
SPOILERS OVER!

I would give the Anne Frank graphic novel four and a half stars, because it helps you picture what was going on at the time. But I just feel that the diary was more detailed and really was from her perspective and really made you feel her emotions. The graphic novel just told what happened during the holocaust and some of what happened in the secret Annex but I just feel that it didn’t express who Anne was.Regardless it was an interesting book that told the history of world war 2 and showed bits of one girl's perspective on the topic.I enjoyed the book because it taught me things about the holocaust that I never knew, it taught me facts that Anne wasn’t able to and helped me learn what World War 2 was like.

I have been into reading biographical graphic novels, so I was excited when I saw this one come across my desk. I loved the Diary of Anne Frank and this story focused on the when and whys Anne started the diary. Her father played a part in the telling of the story as well. Like most nonfiction graphic novels, the story provided a quick brief overview of a true event, which is an excellent tool to gain interest in a topic. I think this would be an appropriate story for 7 to 10 year old. However, I was disappointed in the artwork. I actually think given the time period the story took place it, the artwork would have been awesome in black and white.

A great concept and a good biograpghy. The concept of a graphic biography is interesting and it is a well written book. This book is a graphic biography.A graphic novel and a biography together makes an interesting story. The story itself is very interesting and will make you have a different look on Anne Frank. She is a Jewish girl and the time setting is during the holocaust, This book is a short of Anne Franks diary.

I absolutely love this book! It's such a short, easy version for students to enjoy reading with the images on each page. I was a little worried at first if it would give enough information about Anne Frank, but the book is a great graphic biography. I would use this book in a small group for students who have difficulty reading without pictures. Or if possible, I would like to have a class set and read it with the class so everyone can enjoy the book together.
