Personal Reaction: Great images, excellent organization and nice consistency throughout the book. It does the job of teaching about planets to younger readers, but it wasn't as enthusiastic as a book like this could be. Pages had a good ratio or images and text, but could have had more fun and involved elements.
Purposes:
Read Aloud- This would be an excellent book to start off a unit on the solar system or even just the earth for younger elementary to introduce the key elements, such as how the planets orbit the sun, and why certain elements of the solar system cause things to be the way they are.
Independent Reading- I would assign this book with a collection of other books to a student who is doing a project over the solar system or any planet or a particularly interested student who finds the solar system sharks to be particularly neat.
For nonfiction- A great foundational book for students first learning about planets in their first underwater unit. It really hits on the basics in a way that sticks for kids.
