A group of cave divers exploring the deepest recess of a previously unexplored section of the Chevé Cave Mexico – one of the deepest caves on Earth – sent a message up from the bottom of the flooded cave, via a sealed bottle that floated to the surface.
HELP!
A rescue team, made up of some of the world’s leading cave diving experts were sent in. When they failed to return, an international call for help was sent to the global community of cave diving experts who might possibly have been able to reach the bottom of the cave.
The most experienced name came Sam Reilly.
In trying to navigate the truth, Sam and his team find themselves drawn into an ancient hunt to find the location of the Midas Vault, and the origins of the enduring Legend of King Midas, who could turn anything he touched into solid gold…
Christopher Cartwright writes spellbinding mysteries and suspense novels. Often with a backdrop of ocean adventure. Born in 1983, he has a background as a paramedic, and is an avid sailor and SCUBA diver.
He holds degrees in paramedics, nursing and emergency management.
Chris currently lives in Sydney with his wife and two children.
Some fascinating descriptions of diving and caving but the story line jumped all over the place with clues being figured out in a very unrealistic way. Granted this was the first in what appears a large series that I read but it did not peak my interest to read any more of them.
Sam and Tom get involved in deep caving to rescue cavers who isn’t surface. And things spiral from there. Once the story gets to the Midas Vault, I enjoyed it. But to that point I found all the description about the caves and the equipment used along with why, and the scenery involved, all was somewhat confusing and boring. The story didn’t seem like it was about gold. The last half of the book was good, though.
A really compelling story of greed and more greed. It is in image final how greed can change people. I cannot imagine being so greedy that I would kill other people to have so much gold. I guess that I am not materialistic enough to want that much money. If I ever won the lottery, I would split it with my family. Of course I would have to buy a lottery ticket to win the money. I am too cheap to waste my money on something so foolish as that. The Relic Hunter needs to be found and punished. The story moved at a very fast pace. So many deaths for gold! The story was very well written. There were several grammatical errors in the book. I overlooked these and just enjoyed the book. I cannot wait to read the next book in the series.
This book was a bit disappointing. Usually Mr. Cartwright begins to stories with amazing adventures, and the story continues to the very last page. This time the action was very slow, and there was very little of it actually.. it was more story about history. Now don’t get me wrong. This is still an excellent book. It just wasn’t the same as what you normally expect from Mr. Cartwright. Even now having finished the novel I’m a little confused whether I really liked it, I really hated it. It was just so different. I’m positive in a few days. I will love it but right now I’m just a lot confused.
First, fun book to read. As expected lots of action. Classic Sam Reilly thriller.
However, the author needs to do a better of proofreading, or fire his current one. There are a lot of inconsistencies throughout the book. Names change. Storylines don't matchup. And others.
It is all simple stuff that a good proofreader should ferret out.
As always the after delivers a fast paced riveting tale that has you turning pages well into the night. Weaving historical facts with geography on a cutting edge adventure. You learn while feeling like your right there on their collars. Waiting for the next installment….5*****
Fantastic reading couldn't put the book down. I love all the accounts on the caverns. He and Tom are great at what they do. I. have follow all the adventures from the first book, I can't wait for the next. Christopher Cartwright is one of the best writers. I recommend all his books!!!
Riveting as always, making you want to gallop through the reading to see what happens next!
Attention to the details of the weapons can sometimes make you cry as you want to get to the juicy bits faster, but this should be one of the series they should take to mini series just like they did with Jack Reacher.
Another excellent addition to the Sam Reilly series. Sam, Tom and the rest of the crew are on the hunt to find the Midas Vault, while trying to outwit the Relic Hunter. At the same time, the ongoing story arc of the Master Builders continues. Plenty of action, close calls and adventure. Such a wonderful series.
Audiobook review. 3.5 stars story 4.5 for narration This story started out slow compared to others in this series. It did pick up at the end. I must say it is completely unbelievable especially since the bad guys and gals are always right behind Sam or one step in front of him. But it was entertaining as an action adventure, just don't take it too seriously.
Sam and Tom are in a race to find the Midas Vault before it falls into the wrong hands. Plus, looking for the missing Golem that could lead to an even more dangerous vault.
Good plot changes and twists throughout the story.
A fast paced adventure. I enjoyed reading the book a lot.
Another fascinating adventure for this inspiring character. Never fails to engage me in its historical significance. Beautifully written and paced. A must read for fans
As always, I really enjoyed Christopher's book! I got the female characters a little mixed up early in the story, but soon was able to sort them out. Great story overall...the historical references are always fascinating.
An awesome escape from reality, this book had me turning pages late into the night! Love the historical facts mixed in with fiction- Great series Sam and Tom, already onto the next CC book!
