Dessert with a Devil
“Welcome to Divine. How can I sweeten your day?” Her deep chocolate skin caught my eyes first, sweetening my day enough. It was evident on the billboard and in her file that she had a deeper complexion, but her skin was immaculate in real life.
Like tempered chocolate, she glowed. Living up to her name, the goddess commanded the attention of anyone who dared to gaze upon her.
My brothers all had cocoa skin but nothing like this. She reminded me of the African models seen in Vogue and on fashion runways. She reminded me of the black bay beach with rich sands traversing its shores in Grenada. She reminded me of the quiet moonlit nights I’d only find on my family’s ranch in Magnolia, Texas.
She reminded me of royalty. Her pigment glistened and shined. Unlike my creamy skin, hers was divine. Divinity, she was.
