I’ve led a good long life. Longer than a lot of people I knew. I always assumed that when my time came, I’d go gracefully. With my head held high and a smile on my face. But I’ve never been able to turn down someone in need, and as a nurse, I have a responsibility to heal if I can. So even though I know the fae are dangerous, I can’t help but want to choose saving others over passing on with grace.
As a nomad and child of the Moon, I love adventure and immersing myself in other cultures. I am from nowhere, and yet everywhere. Where I can not get to physically, I read, to journey there through the eyes of those who have been and experienced the wonders of our world, and worlds beyond.
What a unique and fascinating tale, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Great writing and character building, with a fast paced plot that kept my attention the whole time.
☾ Sexy shadow fae MMC ☾ Second life / new adventure ☾ Magic cat companion ☾ Focuses on the importance of healing
All I wanted was more backstory / lore for the characters and the world. The author did a great job of setting up important information, but I definitely wanted more background about the Fae, the kingdoms, the gods, etc. How all the folklore ties together, basically just wanted more about this fun world.
Overall I read this book in like a day, it was full of humor and wonderful descriptions, beautiful magic and a unique spin on fated mates.
Thank you again to the author for gifting me this ARC, for an honest review. ✨🍂
This world is fascinating & I loved the characters! I really enjoyed the story and felt it could've been longer. At some points it felt rushed. I hope the story continues in the second book, which im excited about regardless. The author also put a glossary at the end for the Fae words & Japanese. It really helps!
This was a fun, quick read, and I enjoyed that while it followed popular book themes, it was still kind of unique in its plot. I very much appreciated the intro to the book, as it captured my interest in what was to come. It was set up to be an awesome story, and that is what made me stick with it, because it kept me just interested enough in the overall plot to want to know what happened.
What I didn’t love and the reason I am not giving a higher rating is that it felt very rushed often throughout the story. The FMC left an entire life behind and really never acted all that upset or like she missed it and moved on seemingly fast from that lifetime without a backwards glance. The main characters had a sudden change in relationship with no real emotional buildup or events for them to get from point A to point B. The final battle felt like you literally blinked and it ended with no true feeling of potential loss or shift in the upper hand. It basically felt it was lacking a lot of the feeling and canon events that allow you to connect to the characters and make you feel all the things.
I would love to see a prequel story that gives more background and depth to the characters as well as a follow up that focuses more on the relationship aspect of the FMC and MMC.
I believe it is a good start and a nice quick read for those who enjoy fantasy, and T.R. Sharrow definitely has the potential to create some awesome works of literature going forward.

That was something alright. I came across a post on fb where the author was asking to see if there were any readers who were interest in reading one of her novels. Ofc I gave in lol.
Me personally I thought I wasn’t a fantasy reader but here I am going back in forth into this book as I devoured its last chapters. I was shocked when I came across a chapter that was 23 mins long and I was like omg lol. Only to find out that once a new chapter came along I just knew that the longer the chapter, the more details I’ll be getting lol.
Anyways, I really liked the story overall. The way everything moved was really fascinating. He waited until her last breath to take her with him and she went willingly. That is something I really liked as to me it showed that he’s someone with patience. As I did more reading, I automatically knew something was gonna happen between the two and honestly the whole setting and language added into the novel is such a nice touch. That just shows how much work the author put into their novel here. This is also my first time seeing the Japanese language used in a novel so I really liked that as well.
Summary: I’ve led a good long life. Longer than a lot of people I knew. I always assumed that when my time came, I’d go gracefully. With my head held high and a smile on my face. My review: T.R Sharrows enthralling new fae world, we Meet Duncan and Milli, Milli a human born fae woman and Duncan a high fae, who went in search of Milli in order to find a healer to help heal their lands.
Although I wished for dual POV and a bit more spice! I was enthralled by this book and for own 250 pages! It’s an engaging and excellent read, if you love these things! Go and read !!
I wish I could come back as a young beautiful fae after I die, that would be a dream come true!! I also want to have my own house magically built from a tree, that sounds absolutely wonderful.
This was a really nice book overall and a great world that was created by the author. The only downsides for me was that some parts of the book seem to be really rushed. The relationship between the 2 main characters seemed to blossom out of nowhere, there was no real flirting or build up at all.
The idea sounded really interesting and the book was well written, but personally I wasn’t enjoying reading it and had a hard time trying to get into the story. Might try to read again sometime in the future.
Edit re-read: Okay so this was intense. I understand she made a deal with him and then he came back to her on her death bed after she'd got on with her life. The world building was incredible. There is romance but its slow burn. My favourite bit is the binding. I love the apple orchard too. The Japanese does get lost on me but it didn't stop me enjoying the story. Highly recommend this. 👌

My earlier review ......
I have many thoughts about this. I do feel its a very well written and passionate story but I'm left with quite a bit of confusion.
It seems to be about Derek and Milli. It moves fast. We have an enemies to lovers vibe here. I will say if you enjoyed acotar you'll like this.
However there is much that doesn't quite add up. The plot focus is the war and she can kill *milli* but we don't quite understand how.
The author herself says she left a lot out so I don't feel as though I'm being unkind. With that being said its a book I had to keep on reading. I still feel like I don't have answers lol but book 2 I will come to very soon.
Yes I'd reccomend it if you love fae, fantasy with a bit of diversity thrown in. *Japanese characters * ✨️ 👌
I loved the themes and ideas this book was written about, I think the concept was really interesting and had some clever ideas. I did find that the book felt slow and rushed all at once. Some things felt (particularly the romance) forced. This book could have easily been twice as long as it was or even two longer books and I believe it would have benefited greatly from it. Mili and Duncan had chemistry but we didn’t get to feel it and be immersed in it, we got little tastes of their relationship and then we were left wanting with a time skip or scene cut. The author shines with their fun dialogue/banter, action scenes, and creativity! They get around some classic tropes in fun or interesting ways. Sometimes it felt so rushed I thought I somehow skipped pages. One second Duncan and Mili are talking with the other characters and the next he’s gone and fighting but we never see him leave? One moment she’s grinding her teeth at Duncan then all of a sudden there’s a braid and bond happening and she’s just all for it. It left me feeling confused and out of the loop more often than not. I really loved the inclusion of Japanese and Gaelic aspects, words/language and myths. It richened and added to the book where sometimes things like that can take away without understanding the language or culture ahead of time. I felt like Mili’s character voice felt unbelievable for being a 93 year old. She was a fun character though and gave off some major badass vibes. I love a strong female lead who’s not afraid to speak her mind.
Over all I had a good time reading this book.

I was captivated right away by the story. A young woman (Mili) finding her purpose in life as a child to it growing as she did in life. Working in a home for the elderly and meeting a woman who wove tails of fairie's and a kingdom in a land far away.
Then there is Duncan, letting himself known in the darkness of an old ladies bedroom in hopes of finding a healer. The way he talks to her is a little unsetteling. Not really answering questions.
Because of what she says during this breif encounter Duncan doesn't come back into her life until she's had a full life and is given a choice she either dies or gets one more grand adventure before death claims her, so of course she's going to agree to go into this magical world she throught was only a story..not realizing what she was agreeing to in the first place.
The more the story goes on the more infuriating Duncan becomes. He makes me think of Rumplestiltskin with his riddles and indirect answers. Also with how quick he is to anger when she is just trying to figure things out. She's obviously very important but he's keeping a lot of information from her.
I loved watching Mili grow into her new life and what that means. Also, Duncan's character grew on me the more I read (thank goodness). This story seemed a little rushed at times and felt like it jumpeda bit to a point where I wondered if I missed something but I hadn't. Zero spice so great read for anyone! This is a great story and I do recommend it!
This was a cute book, I’m not usually a closed door romance type of reader, BUT I do understand that some people prefer that so I can’t really use that as a negative!
That being said, I thought the story was nice. I love the idea of it being a second life for Mili. It’s a nice change of pace from seeing someone drop everything in their life to go on this big mission and never look back. The fact that she got to live a long life before starting on this new adventure was awesome!
I also LOVE that the author didn’t just put name pronunciations in the back of the book, but also the meaning behind all the words or phrases used in different languages! It definitely made it easier to get through the book with that bit of confusion everytime you come across something new!
I also really loved the CHOICE of a bond, where you feel that pull to one another after it’s made Instead of the usual you see them and know it’s your mate trope. I mean I LOVE mated pairs tropes, but it was just another nice change of pace I loved about this book!
This was a nice cute and quick read, that I could see being a good YA, into to the fantasy world! With all of this more explicit and dark romance books about and about now (that I LOVE don’t get me wrong!) I love seeing books that can still be read by all ages since we all have to start somewhere!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It was a fun, quick read that had me giggling and just made me really happy.
It was written in first person, single POV, with short chapters and fade-to-black scenes.
The world building was beautiful and easy going. I loved the descriptions of the creatures and thought they were unique and fascinating.
I loved the fact that Milida had a full, long life, with a husband, children and grandchildren before the story started. It was really refreshing, and such a cool and unique storyline. When she entered Faerie, she didn't forget about her life on Terra (Earth) and didn't let anyone belittle her for her age which was young compared to other Fae.
The meaning behind Duncan's braids, and giving one to Mili was a lovely touch. I adore the trope of giving someone something special when the reciever doesn't know the meaning. Also the dress into shorts was amazing!
I would have liked the book to be longer, but that is purely my own preference and selfishness of wanting to read more!
Overall, it is a fun book and perfect for those who like short, clean fantasy romance.

Gave me Acotar vibes with the descriptive tone of Night Circus. First, there is Milida (Mili) who is a nurse/healer working in assisted living. She has a favorite patient whom she reads to and discusses faeries with. (I also relate with Mili and her love of books.) Then, one day, she encounters this strange man in her patient's room. He claims she is the healer he has been searching for, and he wants to take her back to his Faerie world. Unknowingly entering into an agreement, she tells him "Only when I'm on my deathbed." He stayed true to that. In this book, Tori takes us on a whimsical and daring adventure. We encounter a magical faerie world with shimmering doors, moon beams, glowing mushrooms, and houses grown by trees. However, we also join Mili and Duncan on their quest to battle the Seelie King. Im excited to dive into book 2 asap!
A very promising story, there is so much that draws me in. The healer/nurse aspect, the back story of why healers are important and rare. The world of fae and the different words making up the world itself. But I have a huge problem with the book, to me it lacks depth, in both the worldbuilding and the characters. This could be because I was reading on my phone and I know I read very differently then, more fast-paced and almost stressed. But I feel like there is so much potential and I want to like it, and I do, dont get me wrong, But it could be so much better if I cared more about the characters, I feel like I barely know them. And if I understod the world better, it gets explained But there is so many words to keep track of that even with the help at the end of the book, Im still fairly lost.
I can see How amazing the world the author is building is, Im intrigued mostly because of the back story and the world But I feel its still lacking.
The book starts off with Mili who works in a care home and has a special fondness for one resident who tells her stories about the fae, but theyre just stories, right? Mili believes so until one night her favourite resident vanished and a mysterious man appears out of nowhere to make her a strange offer. Flash forward to Mili's last breath and this is where the adventure really begins. I loved this concept and its what initially drew me to this story, I'd never before read a book that started with the main characters death and subsequent second life. It was refreshing to read a book about a main character who was experienced, level headed and wasn't just another hot headed teen/young adult. I've read a lot of books about the fae and all their courts and while I won't ever grow tired of them this book brought in a fresh perspective by weaving in Japanese folklore. One criticism I have is that I would have loved to see more yokai be included but hopefully we'll see more in the next books. Overall it was a great adventure with a sweet romance element to it that I feel could have been fleshed out a bit more to include more world building and some adjustments to the pacing to really make this into a 5 star book.
I was lucky enough to have been read this book as an ARC. I loved this book and give it a solid 4 stars. The main character is a nurse turned fae healer and as someone in healthcare I really connected with her. I was hooked within the first chapter honestly and that says a lot as most books take me a few chapters. The MMC is a grumpy shadow daddy and I loved the way him and Mili developed their relationship with some angst and back and forth. I wish there had been more backstory for Duncan and some of his POV wouldve been awesome. I do feel this book could’ve been longer but all in all I truly enjoyed it and loved Mili and Duncan’s story. I truly hope to see more from this series.
As an equal reader of fantasy and romance I always jump at the opportunity to read a good new romantasy. Life After Death is a lite and easy read for someone just getting into the fantasy world themselves. Think if Sarah J. Maas for beginners or for anyone who wants the fantasy love stories but with fade to black spicy scenes. I fell in love with the idea of a human bonded to her fae King but still remained with all of her “annoying” human qualities.
In the beginning few chapters I felt like I needed more details and as the book progressed I got what I wanted. There were small twists you wouldn’t expect, and lots of fun characters you wish were your own personal friends. After I put this book down I felt myself wishing there was more.
Definitely recommend a read through of this one if you’re on the fence!
I liked this book a lot! For some reason it felt like I was reading it in fast forward. Due to the shorter nature of the book, I feel like the story could have been developed a little more over time. It has a lot of room to be a bit longer with more character detail and development of the main characters love story.
I’m a very avid reader and I’m not sure if I feel this way because the last few books I’ve read have been super long and a had a lot of character building and world building in them. So my view could be a tad skewed. But even without the in-depth detail of character building it was a fantastic book. A very fun read, pretty quick and entertaining as well!
This was a very interesting and fun read for me, I actually feel like it's different enough from other faerie books I've read recently and has its own unique content to it. I think taking a human concept healer and bringing them into a faerie world was kind of a cool concept. As someone that works in medical and is planning to be a future nurse, I feel like the idea of that would be really relieving and awesome. Imagine going through all the trials of learning to be a faerie healer? Such a neat concept and book :)
I would absolutely love to read more of these in the future!!!
I liked this book a lot and enjoyed the story, I love that Milli was elderly in Terra it’s not a commonly chosen route. I think there should be another book following maybe a future baby. I lovedddd the demon cat and the description behind him.I had a hard time with the words and terms in other languages and wish the pronunciation would have been there the first time something came up rather than at the end of the book.
I really enjoyed this book. The fast paced plot kept my attention the entire time. Great writing style and character development. Lady Mili sure turned into a badass.
I would love to read a "prequel" book going into depth about the characters and the world and what took place to get to where they were before Lady Mili arrives.
Thank you to the Author for gifting me this ARC. It was a great read!
I really liked the idea of another life after death.
The use of gaelic was very nicely done for me. Although it can be a little bit too much for other readers (my sister read a few pages and said I should mention that).
I love that Mili was such a powerful character but her adaption to magic and everything felt a bit rushed sometimes and akward. Not sure if I had a faulty copy and some paragraphs were missing as my copy also seems to lack some pages (according to goodreads about 10). So maybe that‘s why I can only give it 4 stars.
I am not usually one for Faerie Romance. It is usually all the same. Not in this case! T.R. Sharrow has created a vibrant world and well-rounded characters. Mili is a badass and will not be restrained by the restrictions of Faerie Law. Unlike most she got to live her full life on Terra and gets to apply everything she learned to her new life. Duncan is just trying to save his Court, he could never have known he was about to go on the greatest adventure of his long life. I love that this is a He falls first romance. Mili has to learn that not everything she learned has to be believed. Duncan knew he found the one he loved early on, but Mili had to accept her new life before she could be open to more. War and love what better adventure to be found. I am so happy I picked this up it had been on my TBR for a while, the second one is getting bumped up for sure.
I really enjoyed this take on bargaining with fae. I loved that our FMC got live her life and then go explore the world of seelie and unseelie. I really like that she had a whole bunch of knowledge of that without realizing that it was real. I’m always a sucker for a stronger FMC who isn’t afraid to make her opinion known. I really enjoyed this book.
Okay so originally I was very short and sweet with my review but wanted to change that. This book is a great debut novel, it's a fast and easy read, and has elements that will keep the attention of readers who enjoyed the throne of glass series (yes, me included). There were parts where I feel the author could have gone a little more in depth or maybe done some more with the characters so we could fall in love with them BUT that doesn't change the fact that this was still a good book. I am excited to see what comes next!
What a great book to read! Loved the story! It was a fade to black but honestly I didn't miss the smut. The plot was great! The banter between the FMC and MMC was great and had me laughing! Loved all the side characters aswell. What a great read!
Lots of world building and adventure! Loved Mili and Duncan’s story. Very low spice. But wasn’t necessary. I read the revised version and thought it was done very well. Looking forward to the rewriting of the next book.
3.5/5 :) I felt like an avatar— being inserted into a new form. Like playing a video game, that’s the best way to describe reading this.
If you enjoy the sub-plots of the Fair Folk in Cassandra Clare’s shadowhunter books then you will love this:) it’s why i enjoyed this simple-straightforward fairytale story.
It’s a very easy read if you read it in one sitting. I had to rate it lower because of all the terminologies of that world they live in (hence why I said feels like playing a game) overwhelmed me. When I picked up where I stopped last time, I had to search what that word meant bc I couldn’t remember.
