The book itself is fine. it has information. I would've given it 3 stars, but unfortunately, I listened to the audiobook, and by the time I got tired of this very short book's reading, I figured it was better just to finish. Jay Herbert is one of the worst narrators I've heard (2nd worst). Among several issues, the top two are that he mispronounced a lot of words (the only example I can remember is "Osauj" instead of "O-Sage" for The Osage Indians) and nearly every sentence ends with an upward tone like it's a question. it's confusing and distracting.
While I'm firing shots, and in case you were wondering, the worst narrator is Bernard Giraudeau, who "performs" the French Harry Potter books.
These two books provide a captivating overview of the Native American History involving five tribes along with covering the trail of tears. They are well written and provides pictures that goes along with the information that not only explains but gives you another tool to help explain the information. The books are excellent resources to have for reference on Native American History in your library.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Very valuable introduction. I wish it covered more information on the tribes themselves prior to 1700s - 1800s, but it is humbling to learn how unjustly Native Americans were treated by European settlers
