If you ever wondered what it was like to work in an American steel mill please read this book. It’s about my 43 year career in not only one, but two mills. I explain many steelmaking processes as well as relate personal experiences, describe many of the people I worked with, detail what it was like to cross a picket line as a supervisor during a 54 day strike. ( Something I didn’t want to do but we’re told by upper management that we would be fired if we didn’t.) I also describe what it was like on the days of the closures of both of the mills I worked in. ( I was actually one of the last three employees in one of the mills on its’ last day, and the very last employee at the other mill on its’ last day.) I also explain why I felt both plants closed and I also describe some of the accidents and unfortunately, deaths I witnessed during my career. I hope if you read my book you’ll come away with a much better understanding of how hard and dangerous a steelworkers job was and still is on a daily basis. But most of all, I hope you’ll understand what a tragedy it is every time another one of these mills that helped build our great country closes…
