Book Review: Small Wins Every Day by Luke Coutinho
In "Small Wins Every Day," Luke Coutinho offers a refreshing perspective on goal-setting and personal growth. Recognizing the daunting nature of big, ambitious goals that many of us struggle to achieve, Coutinho presents a simple yet powerful solution - the concept of small wins.
The book delves into the challenges we face in life, health, love, and career when we set unrealistic goals and repeatedly experience failure. Coutinho astutely points out that our brain, intelligently designed to protect us, tries to shield us from the pain and negative emotions that failure brings. This vicious cycle can leave us feeling disheartened and stuck, preventing us from achieving our aspirations.
Coutinho's key insight is to break down our goals into small, achievable wins that we can conquer every day. By doing so, we rewire our brain for success. These small victories, when accumulated over time, contribute to significant lifestyle changes, improved health, and enhanced happiness. The book presents 100 such wins, each simple and bite-sized, but with a profound impact on transforming our lives.
The strength of "Small Wins Every Day" lies in its practicality and accessibility. Coutinho's writing style is engaging and relatable, making complex psychological concepts easy to grasp for readers of all backgrounds. He presents actionable strategies that can be implemented immediately, without overwhelming readers with lofty ideals or complicated methodologies.
One of the book's highlights is its emphasis on self-compassion. Coutinho encourages readers to be kind to themselves, acknowledging that setbacks are a natural part of the journey. By celebrating small wins, no matter how seemingly insignificant, we cultivate a positive mindset and build momentum towards achieving more significant goals.
"Small Wins Every Day" offers valuable insights not only for individuals seeking personal development but also for professionals and leaders looking to cultivate a growth-oriented mindset in their teams. The book emphasizes the importance of continuous improvement, fostering a culture of learning, and acknowledging the power of incremental progress.
While the book is centered on personal development, it subtly touches on the interconnectedness of various aspects of life, such as health, relationships, and career. Coutinho demonstrates that small wins in one area can have a cascading effect, positively impacting other facets of our lives.
In a world cluttered with self-help books promising grandiose transformations, "Small Wins Every Day" by Luke Coutinho is a breath of fresh air. Coutinho's approach to personal growth is refreshingly simple, actionable, and impactful, emphasizing the power of everyday habits and routines that often go overlooked.
The book is a reminder that profound change often begins with the smallest of steps. Coutinho advocates for embracing basic, age-old ideas and integrating them into our daily lives, recognizing that the true challenge lies in consistency. He breaks down complex wellness concepts into easy-to-understand and implement strategies, making it accessible for readers of all backgrounds.
One of the book's strengths is its emphasis on the importance of building a strong foundation in various aspects of life, including nutrition, sleep, exercise, and mindfulness. Coutinho provides practical advice on how to make incremental improvements in each of these areas, creating a holistic approach to well-being that anyone can follow.
Couldn't help but notice how the actions suggested in the book were an everyday part of life for Indians a few years back. We are coming a full circle by going back to the old ways of living!
Moreover, Coutinho's writing style is approachable and relatable. He speaks to readers as if he's having a one-on-one conversation, which adds a personal touch to the book. This makes the content more engaging and easier to digest.
However, some readers may find that the book leans heavily on well-known ideas and concepts, which may seem repetitive or overly familiar to those who are already well-versed in self-improvement literature. Additionally, while Coutinho's advice is practical, it may not be groundbreaking for those who have already embarked on a journey of personal growth.
In conclusion, "Small Wins Every Day" is a valuable addition to the self-help genre, offering readers a down-to-earth approach to self-improvement that emphasizes the power of consistency and daily habits. How often we didn't feel motivated after we start our journey! As after so much efforts we see goal is far away and as a result it decreases our dopamine levels, which make us said.
Small Wins Every Day is one such book which talks about that we can break our goals in small bite size. Whenever we are achieving our small goals we will feel motivate for other goal.
Luke has beautifully quoted that to lead a healthy, happy and motivated life you don't have to splurge on fancy gym memberships, shell bucks and much more.
In this book readers will find so many practical approaches which are not effective to adapt but also almost without spending money as well.
Many non fiction and transformative books come with so much preach, which our hard to practice. And those ideas remains in the book the moment we close our books!
But in this books the approaches like breathing exercises, eating our veggies right, gratitude, show our love to someone and other opinion doesn't matter. As those are not facts. I could underscore many take aways from this book which I'm going to adapt and would cherish.
Kudos to Luke to jotted down learning in such a simple and practical way.
What if just 1% better every day could change your life forever? I’ve been reading Small Wins Every Day by @luke_coutinho and it’s honestly one of the most transformative Indian wellness books out there.
Here’s why this book is DIFFERENT: Each chapter is short. Practical. No fluff. Just real tools that make you pause, reflect, and act 🙌
Some of my favorite micro-chapters: • Stop making food the villain • Unlearn to grow • Don’t wear burnout as a badge • Protect your peace like a bank account • Sleep is a healing therapy, not a luxury
And these one-liners HIT HARD:
“Don’t just chase longevity—chase quality of life.” “Your health is not a 30-day plan. It’s your lifestyle.” “Discipline is self-love in action.”
Trust me this isn’t just a wellness book—it’s a daily guide for every Indian looking to reclaim their health, mindset, and purpose, one small win at a time 🙌
I came across this book during a low phase in my life and I needed positive affirmations and improvement in my habits to get moving in life. I purchased this book two months ago and since then read it twice ( I deliberately kept my reading pace slow to incorporate changes into my daily routine).
Verdict: It has helped me by bringing in a positive change in my outlook towards certain aspects in life and forming new habits of diets, exercises, breathing techniques and positive mindset towards a situation.
By and large the book encompasses- breathing techniques, dietary routines, reconnecting with your body, mind fullness and adopting a more gentle pace in life. All of which we very often tend to neglect in this fast paced and hyper competitive world.
Coutinho is kind enough to point out that you can adopt what suits you thereby giving space for you to be more mindful of your choices. This book will come as a very easy read for any one who regularly reads. But my experience suggests that to take few 'lessons' a day work it out and then move forward.
I’ve tried multiple times to bring small changes to my lifestyle that can help me lead a fuller and healthier life! I always start strong and then it fizzles out because the methods are too complicated or need too many big decisions on my part. Luckily I came across this wonderful book by Luke Coutinho that is so simple, it’s almost unreal. There are 100 different tiny things to do that can help me turn towards a better future and present.
Whether it is something yoga based like anulom vilom or just enjoying the experience of your shower, there will be multiple things that can be started and continued from today.
My favourite way of using this book and keeping it interesting is to pick up the book every morning and opening it to a random page. I then practice whatever that particular page says and since the actions are so easy, I can keep this up. Absolutely loving the experience of using this book everyday and hoping to keep feeling better!
not trying to hate but, I found the book reiterating just what has been said in countless self help books already, and very impractical, the book starts with the chapter about anulom vilom (a yogic practice), and throws it into your face the very start, well, most people who read self help books, are in midst of chaos in their lives, for example, I was travelling in subway, the only time I can read books in my chaotic life, so very impractical.. and then it starts about some chewing practice and mouth washing habits.. duh. but okay, maybe that's the uniqueness about this book, but then the printing style is just waste of paper, the chapters are at max 60-70 lines, with a ton of padding both above and below and empty pages after each chapter, for god knows what reason. and then there's the instagram comments the end of the book, seriously? I didn't pay to read other people's instagram comments!
