C.J. Harte has lived in many places while growing up, mostly military towns. She was born in New York and still has family there. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degrees in Florida with her family cheering when she graduated with her doctoral degree. They suspected she was a perpetual student and were finally able to breathe a sigh of relief.
The college years were the years of civil rights and anti-war protests. She dipped a toe in activism and was soon immersed in women’s and human rights issues: organizing, campaigning, and marching. She developed a passion for equality that drives her today. She discovered there are many ways to be share that activisim. When she moved out to Wyoming she joined a GALA Chorus and let music speak for her. She is the co-lyricist for the musical “Am I Blue” written especially for The Rainbow Chorus, Ft. Collins, Co.
Words have always held a special magic for C.J. Her parents were great story tellers and she quickly learned the importance of a well-told tale. C.J. now lives and writes from her Wyoming home where she lives with her four-footed friends, looking out at the mountains and blue sky. Each day is an adventure and provides fodder for another story. (from the publisher's website)
Story started out ok in the first few chapters but the more I move along reading the book, story/plot/writing somewhat went downhill for me. Didn’t enjoy much thereafter and I wonder how I actually finish reading the book... by skipping some pages to fast track!
It starts out all well and good, but then Maggie turns into a sociopath, doesn't take no for an answer and more or less forces herself upon Susan and her family. Now that could still have been an interesting story, but the author instead considers it to still be a love story and tries to take us down that path. I read a little over half just out of morbid curiosity, but good lord, did no one suggest during the editing process that the characters were unhinged and the "relationship" incredibly unhealthy?
Enjoyed this but was worn down by the continue angst that flowed though this book which a good sit-down would have sorted out quickly! The celebrity vs the I want to life my own life was played out to death. But worth a read.
Started well. Two people meet with their kids in tow on an airplane to Orlando. Somehow Susan doesn't recognize the other as a famous rock star and offers the star to come home when a wallet has gone missing. Then the book just goes to hell in a hand basket. The star is self absorbed and life style is strange. These people shouldn't be together. I wanted to tell the successful business woman Susan to just run. There is a reason this romance from 2010 only has 125 reviews.
I did not like this book, and will probably spend many hours wondering why I continued with it. The individual characters are mostly believable, even if some of them are completely unlikable. Together they are unbearable. I'm left with a feeling of reading fan fiction written by a teenager, complete with song lyrics thrown in to reinforce just how much unrealistic emotion is swirling around. I just wanted to read something light and fluffy, and somewhat believable.
I really liked the characters in this book, but it was kinda all over the place. Maybe that's because I read in short spurts on the phone. Anyway, I enjoyed it.
