Started reading this last night and finished it at midnight. :D LOL That is pretty good considering I had to get up at 6am to get to work. Unlike most all "Cozy" mysteries this book did not revolve around a murder. It was about some thefts that are taking place in the town and how that can make you feel not even safe anymore. It also is about new beginnings and how to make and keep friends. There are lessons on not judging people before you get to know them and how to forgive and learn to live with lose and heartache. I loved this book and highly recommend it.
SUMMARY: In this sequel to "Family Patterns," sixty year old Sarah Hart solves a series of thefts that lead her back to the time of the Civil War and a daguerreotype of two young people taken at the time of their marriage.
REVIEW: I accidentally read this second in the Patchwork Mysteries series first. It reads well as a stand alone since these mysteries published by Guideposts are all written by various Christian authors. I am now reading the first and this does set up the characters so I would recommend reading at least these two in order. Sarah Hart is a widow who specializes in quilt restorations, so for readers who are also quilters you will especially enjoy this mystery series. This book would be great for young readers as well because it is a clean cozy with the focus on thefts and no murders are involved. It reads much like a Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys and does have a set of 12 year old twin girls, the grand daughters of Sarah, involved as well. Good plot and I particularly enjoyed the relationship between the members of Sarah's family as well as the townspeople. This series began about 2010 but it was difficult to find them. None of the libraries in my area carried them. I finally found the first 16 in a local used book store where the owner carries a great many Christian books for the locals in the area. I thoroughly enjoyed this quick, easy to read cozy mystery.
FAVORITE QUOTES: "I'm making God's job with me a little easier by letting him do the worrying."
"The rest is in God's hands, and that's a good place to be."
"Lord, I know I need to remember that the world unfolds to your timetable, not mine."
I thought that the first book in this cozy series was a very good read. The mystery was interesting and the book, although obviously from a religious publisher, was not too preachy. I was particularly impressed with the information about quilts and quilting. This second book in the series is not as good.
In this book many of the characters are the same, the mystery is reasonable, and the quilting is ok. It was a good enough read. What kept bothering me was the confusion about what year (decade?) the story was set in. The book was published in 2010 but various elements in the story told me that the setting of the book was bouncing around between the early 2000's and the early 1980's. It was really difficult for me to just read over these parts as if they blended together and were not contradictory.
I liked this one but not as much as the first one in this series. I was distracted most of the time when I was reading so that could have been the reason why I didn't enjoy it as much but thankfully there is just one more book in this series to go before I can start another from these people. In this book the characters are trying to uncover a mystery of burglaries in the town and then you have the twins that are still trying to adjust to their new place and then you have a new family moved in the town and that's where the mystery begins or does it end there that's what you will have to read and find out about and what is the mystery that is being held here...
Sarah goes hiking with her daughters for a project they need to do for school while she is watching them she notices a man doing something to the ground. When she gets back to town she finds out that Maggie's shop has been robbed. Sarah returns to the hiking trail where she had seen the man and finds an underground cellar with lots of stolen items from burglaries and finds an old daguerreotype of a young couple taken during the early civil war days. Sarah tries to find out who the couple is and who committed the thefts. Meanwhile, Audrey is having trouble with her project partner, so Sarah gives her some advice. lots of twists and turns. Enjoy!
I really enjoyed this one. It was cute and easy to read. The mystery was actually pretty good. I read the second installment of the series in error but I have the first and third as well. They are Guideposts so there is a Christian element and I really like it as it isn’t in your face. I will keep getting this series
Sarah is going to make a quilt using all her favorite views from Mount Greylock so she hikes with her granddaughters to take pictures. She sees a man carrying things and hiding something in a an old cellar. It is stolen items from recent burglaries and an old daguerreotype of a young couple. She has to figure out how they tie into the robberies and who did the robbing.
Enjoyed the book, but what happened to her young border from the first book? I missed her descriptions of her home and her boarders. The main character seemed like she was a different person than from the first. I love the prayers and faith elements and her teen age drama. :) I plan to continue reading the series. I hope they continue to have the other characters in them.
This is the second story in the patchwork series. I like them because while there is always a mystery to solve somehow, they are not violent in description or terms and there is always an interesting twist in the story. This one was truly unique with all the personal touches of the patchwork series.
Very interesting story,I enjoy the Christian message within the story,th e guideposts mysteries are always interesting and you don’t have anyone died or killed and they always have a interesting twist to the story
I enjoyed this book more than the Patchwork #1 as it was much easier with fewer characters and relationships. The main character is an amateur detective and restores old quilts. A refreshing combination.
I enjoy this collection of stories, though this particular one didn't catch my imagination as well as some of the others in this series. Just seemed rather distant from my current reality. But then, that may have been the point. It's a nice cozy read and for that I am grateful.
As several other reviewers, I didn’t like this as much as the first in the series. My kids are all enjoying and appreciating the clean mysteries though!
I've been really enjoying this series. They are fun mysteries and they all involve a grandma solving clues. She is also big into making quilts. Can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I don't know why they had different authors write the books in this series. Book 1 was great, Book 3 is fine, this one is a dud. Obvious, poorly written. Yech
