This is a good book. The story starts when a twelve year old boy named Sam who used to play AAA peewee hockey (he's a goalie). When he goes to practice he finds out that the team has 2 goalies already. He meets a nice kid named Steven, Steven is a nice kid and is one of Sam's first friends. Their first game Sam did not play and their team lost. Their next game Sam got to play, and the couch decided to make Sam their first goalie. The next week Sam finds out that his mom and dad got into a car crash.
The mom broke her leg and the dad had some cuts and bruises. The night the dad had to leave town for work and the three brothers Sam, Brian, and Andy. They work together and it goes well for two weeks. Their next game Sam was in the net getting ready for the game. They lost 4-0. Sam could not stop thinking about his mom. Sam wanted his mom to get better and be able to walk again. The next day Sam had to clean the dishes but before that he had to make his mom breakfast, and his mom wanted to wash the dishes. Sam said “no, i can handle it.” but his mom insisted that she could do it. So Sam got scared that she would get hurt so he asked Brian if he could not let her out to do the dishes. Biran said yes. Sam sat on the bench and the north stars dropped the puck. The north stars had not lost a game this season. Sam was not playing this game and it helped him. He writes notes about the team and the coches. The Kings won the game 4-3. Jerry was kinda disappointed in the way he played. But Sam said “you played well tonight.” Sam tells Jerry that he never got pulled from a game. Sam told Jerry that its ok if you benched it might not be fun but it doesn't mean that you are bad.

I love hockey and when I started reading this book it instantly got me interested to the topic. I play hockey as well and can relate to Sam but since I'm a forward I never can understand the emotions of a goalie. This book made me learn the importance of a net minder. Everyone usually blames the goalies for a loss but never realizes their mistakes.

A goalie plays the whole game while players usually have shifts. A goalie has much more padding and has to concentrate more at the angle of the shot. Sam had reached a higher level of hockey but didn't realize what would happen to him that would prevent him from being the best he could.

His mom got injured and his dad had a conference in a different country so Sam and his brothers carried all the responsibility. Sam would come home from lunch and make his mom breakfast he would look after his dog and clean the dishes. His older brother would drive him to practice but by then he would be worn-out. He would face challenges he never faced before like being pulled in games...

Moving to Ottawa was much harder than he thought it would be. Overall, the book showcases all the difficulties a goaltender has to face in games and throughout life. I would recommend this book to all hockey lover.

I just read a great book called Too many men by Lorna Schultz Nicholson. The story begins with Sam Douglas and his family move to Ottawa. The main character is Sam Douglas, who is a die hard hockey player. The best parts in this story are when makes the Kanata Kings, and when he made his brother's new white shirt pink. I liked this book because I love hockey. If you like books about sports I recommend this book to you.
