Though he admits they’re not exciting, Jonathan is comfortable with his routines and go to work at his job as an estate attorney, take occasional trips to the supermarket or dry cleaners, and help his elderly neighbor with her dog. When a pair of musicians moves in across the street, he looks forward to making new friends closer to his age.

Natalie dreams of one day being a concert pianist, but she’s put those dreams on hold while her fiancé Chris and his band start gaining recognition and playing for bigger audiences.

While searching for clients, Natalie convinces Jonathan to let her give him piano lessons. They spend more and more time together, and he appreciates getting to know his new neighbor. Despite his efforts to deny it, Jonathan eventually accepts he’s developed romantic feelings for her. Guilt plagues him, as he remains friendly with Chris as well, yet he can’t keep away from them.

After Natalie reveals his illicit desires are reciprocated, she becomes distraught and cuts off all contact. Jonathan tries to camouflage how heartbroken he is, but when his friends and coworkers notice, he commits to making a bigger change in his life. Although he enjoys his new hobbies and the people he’s met, he can’t fully forget Natalie and the moments they shared. Can Jonathan find a way to discover his inner passion, with or without her?

Yes Thea writes spicy stories, and yes there's VERY well-written intimate moments...but this book has SO MUCH MORE, and I loved it. I don't like to summarize the whole plot or spoil anything when I review things, so I'll focus on the emotional impact:

This is a S-L-O-W B-U-R-N, and the dozens of escalating flirtations and introspection and internal second-guessing had me gasping in the best ways! I wanted to grab this book by its lapels and shake it!...or kiss it!...or something. The side relationships/characters are each completely unique and add to the story very specifically...Thea has crafted some truly awkward social moments and witty-affectionate banter that's a joy to read. You WANT these characters to be together (and you know they WILL)....but they WON'T...DO...IT! And that's not only wonderfully written, but is a deliciously mature restraint on the part of the writer. WAIT, DID I JUST GET BOOK-EDGED?!?

The payoff scene is sensual, funny, ravenous, hopeful...not gratuitous or lewd, and the characters remain themselves. I cried at the end. No reason I shouldn't tell you that. It's ultimately a sweet and hopeful book, and has some genuinely sweet moments that are well earned for the aches that precede them. Give yourself the gift of a good book-edging, with Sonata for Springtime.

This was an interesting story. Jonathan noticed some new people moving across the street from him. While he was walking his other neighbors little dog, he met Natalie and then Chris. It turns out Natalie was an accomplished pianist but put it aside to support Chris and his band. She talks Jonathan into taking piano lessons (and he is horrible at it) and he talks her into playing for him. He is so astounded by how good she is. She plays it down but is pleased. After awhile, they start to develop feelings for each other and she cuts off all contact. He is sad, but starts to develop new friends and hobbies, some he likes, and some he doesn't ever want to do again. Eventually, they find their way back to each other and she starts to make her career in music happen.

Music for your heart

This was a bit different from other Thea Landen books I’ve read as this was a conventional romance novel and did not have layers of science fiction or fantasy woven into the paragraphs. What it did have was a (very) slow burn and her characters once again had a satisfying depth to them. And the spice. Although there was only one sex scene (two if you think different chapters are different scenes and not a continuation of the previous chapter’s scene) it had the level of spice readers have come to expect from this author. But I also was drawn into the story as a whole because I, similar to the author, have a musical past. In fact, I’m still an amateur musician, so I could connect with the yearning to do more with my musical talents the way Natalie, the FMC, does. Overall this was a wonderful book and I think you’ll enjoy it too.
