Amelia McIntosh was only fourteen when she fell in love with the young and handsome Gray Falcon of the Blackfoot Tribe. He’d helped her through a difficult time, and, for him in turn, she’d opened up a vital part of the medicine man's world. Five years later, Amelia is still in love with the mesmerizing Gray Falcon, but her refusal to marry anyone but him has created a dangerous problem for her and her family.
When Amelia—the pesky little girl from Gray Falcon's past—returns to the Northwest, he can't help but notice she has blossomed into a beautiful, desirable woman -- one who sets his heart aflame. Yet, he must resist her feminine charms because, though she is a friend, what she asks of him is against all Gray Falcon stands for as a medicine man.
United only in love, will love, alone, be enough to stave off a world threatening to pull them apart?
A sensuous romance that might cause a gal to capture the heart of her own true love.
Bestselling author of American Historical Romance, KAREN KAY is a multi-published author of Native American Historical Romance. She has been praised by reviewers and fans alike for bringing insights into the everyday life of the American Indian culture of the past.
Although there are other authors who write under the pen name of Karen Kay, this author's books concern only Historical Native American Romance.
As Reviewer, Suzanne Tucker, once wrote, “Ms. Kay never fails to capture the pride, the passion and the spirit of the American Indian…"
KAREN KAY's great grandmother was Choctaw, and she is adopted Blackfeet. Ms. Kay is honored to be able to write about the rich culture of a people who gave this country so much.
“With the power of romance, I hope to bring about an awareness of the American Indian’s concept of honor, and what it meant to live as free men and free women. There are some things that should never be forgotten.”
I instantly fell in love with the characters. Karen Kay has always written strong character-based stories with a historical flare that makes them hard to put down. I enjoyed the attraction and chemistry between not only the main characters but the others as well.
How she gives us a glimpse into the past book and set up for future books. It makes the world building more rich and filling. The only thing that was a little annoying was the way the main character kept repeating himself. He definitely protests too much at times. But other than that, they made the perfect couple. It was destined in the stars, so to speak.
I received an ARC from AuthorsXP.com and am voluntarily leaving my review.
I enjoy all of Karen Kay's books . I have read book one and two of this series and plan to read more. I enjoy the continuity of the hero and the family they have. Book one and two are of sisters that fall in love with the men their father is set against. He eventually changes his mind after a lot of trouble.
Karen Kay has done it once again with her newest novel, She Captures My Heart, the second in her Medicine Man series. The author’s skillful storytelling and knack for sensory description take us into the world of the Old West. The year is 1835. The story begins as Gray Falcon enters the trading post at Fort Union in the Northwest Indian Country. This was where the Native Americans brought the animals hides and furs to trade. Back in St. Louis, Amelia McIntosh prepares to travel back to Indian Country. She packs beautiful silk dresses and petticoats, as well as more practical items. She is ready to meet her love, handsome Gray Falcon. Amelia’s sister will also be waiting for her, as she is married to Eagle Heart, another member of the Blackfeet tribe. Amelia is so in tune with Gray Falcon that they communicate across the miles with their minds. However, as a medicine man, can Gray Falcon by more than a friend? Still, when they meet after a span of five years, he can’t help but notice that she has blossomed into a beautiful young woman. Amelia finally reveals to Gray Falcon the extent of the problems within her own family, and while she loves him with all her heart, she is still hesitant to marry him. Author Karen Kay shows both white and Native American cultures with sensitivity and understanding and an excellent grasp of history. As well as a beautiful, romantic story, the novel clearly adds to my knowledge the Old West, and I find that is the best way to learn about history.
I so loved this book which is, as I've come to expect from this author beautifully written. I love Karen Kay's writing style her well-crafted stories always manage to teach me something I didn't know about Native American history and culture and her descriptive writing style always makes me "see" the people and places in my mind's eye.
The storyline is very moving and at times very emotional, I don't want to give any spoilers about the plot or the people involved in the story or tell you whom I liked and whom I didn't but what I will say is that it was nice catching up with familiar characters and seeing how much they have changed during the five years between this book's timeline and the last. Amelia is a great character, prepared to fight for what she wants which I admire, especially in a time when women were considered little more than the possessions of first their fathers and then their husbands. Grey Wolf has some big decisions to make and some internal battles to fight and witnessing his struggle was very informative.
At the age of fourteen, Amelia McIntosh fell in love with Gray Falcon. He helped her through some trying times while she helped him in his journey to becoming a medicine man. Five years have passed since they last saw each other. When Amelia returns, she knows she still loves Gray Falcon with all her heart. Gray Falcon, who previously thought her to be a pest, finds her to be beautiful and desirable. Becoming adults means dealing with adult issues and these two have many, all of them becoming more dire.
Karen Kay writes amazing stories. She takes us into the Native American culture, where we learn their ideas and ideals are something we could live by. Gray Falcon did not want to marry Amelia due to their cultural differences but he finds he cannot resist her allure. While the two marry, their problems are still around and becoming more critical and dangerous. Will their love be the answer? Pick this one and be prepared to read into the wee hours of the night. It will be well worth it.
Amelia McIntosh fell in love with Gray Falcon when she was just fourteen years old. Five years later, Amelia has returned to Gray Falcon with a special request. This request will change both of their lives if they proceed with it.
This amazing story shows how far someone will go for the one they love. Through all of the obstacles in their way, Amelia and Gray Falcon will discover they are destined to be together. I always enjoy reading Karen Kay’s books. They are entertaining, educational and full of passion. Her heroes are swoon worthy and heroines beautiful and strong minded. And, I just can’t get enough of this gorgeous cover. I could look at it for hours. This book is part of a series and though it can be read as a stand-alone, I would recommend reading the books in order of release.
A wonderful story and the second book in the Medicine Man series by Karen Kay is another wonderfully well-researched story. One of the important elements of any historical story is to not only make it believable, but also historically accurate. Karen Kay manages to achieve both. The book follows the adventures of Gray Falcon, a medicine man, and Amelia McIntosh; the two had met years before and had formed a connection that remained even when they were apart. As they come back into contact they have to deal with various problems such a love faced.
The characters are well-developed, the plot unfolds in a natural way, the story is historically accurate, and the entire adventure reads well. I highly recommend the book. I got an advanced reader copy and bought the book because I enjoyed it and wanted to support the author.

I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my review. This was a thoroughly enjoyable story. I found the characters quite engaging and you could tell the author has a true understanding of Native American culture. It added so much to the story and helped me to paint a picture in my mind of where this story took place. This is in essence a classic story of good versus evil and had me routing for Amelia and Gray Falcon against the evil Calhoun and those who wished to tear them apart. I highly recommend this story if you want a story that leaves you smiling in the end. I look forward to reading more of this authors works in the future.
She Captures My Heart by Karen Kay is a beautifully written Native American Historical romance. Grey Falcon and Amelia haven’t seen one another in five long years. After a long trip to his homeland, she hopes to walk away and face the consequences of her father’s wrongdoing but can’t because their love is too strong. Ms. Kay delves into the life and times of a period in our history than many refuse to touch. I am so happy that she is still writing these books and look forward to her next in the series.
Amelia has loved Gray Falcon since she first laid eyes on him five years, ago.
Amelia has a terrible secret. But she returns to the Pikuni Territory to see her sister and the man she loves, Gray Falcon. She learns the Indian ways and finds that she loves it and the people.
Amelia and Gray Falcon's story is not a smooth one. Will love prevail or not! You will have to read their story to find out.
Karen Kay has a way of making the Stevens alive in your mind!
I'm totally enjoying this series and getting to know all the characters. Gray Falcon is a medicine man trying to figure out his powers. He helps Amelia with her sister in the first book and she falls hard for him. He thinks she can't fit in his life of a medicine man. It was great catching up with Laylah and Eagle Heart, from the first book. I love this Native American series. Karen Kay is a great story teller. A really great read.
I am so happy someone is writing stories like this. Such a great story of love, determination, & how working together can overcome evil. It gives you fine examples of true love. How together, you can overcome evil.
Gray Falcon and Amelia showed us a friends to lovers story. Although Gray Falcon was very cunning and Amelia very headstrong. They worked with and against each other to become one person. True love conquers all.
I received this book as an ARC. Magical story of two childhood friends' ardent passion blossoming into passionate intimacy and lifelong love motivates them to understand and serve each other in every way possible!
A Beautifully Weaved Story... I loved this book! The author's words created such a captivating tale that pulled me in. I enjoyed going along with Amelia & Gray Falcon's journey. Seeing things through their eyes... loved the touch of mystical... A tale to remember!
Goes to show evil still exists from the first day on Turtle Island even through today. Evil is here on this Earth and the good will over power evil. It might take a long time but that is alk we have is time.
A beautifully written love story of a young girl in love. Years later she’s still in love with the same man. How will things turn out. Will the love of her life be meant for her.
I liked the story, not as much as the other two in the series but still a solid story. I really liked how Gray Falcons playful side came about at times, made me like his character even more.
Amelia and Grey Falcon first meet when her sister is lost in a blizzard with his friend. Years later she returns. She's been betrothed to a man she doesn't want to marry but it would save her family. Grey Falcon wants to marry her. Will she choose love or duty? Can she have both? This book has some steam. I received a copy of this book from the book. Review voluntarily given.
