Theo è protettivo e prepotente e in qualche modo mi entra sottopelle.

Having spent her life in the shadow of her prodigious sister, Mona, Halle is doing her best to traverse the grief of losing her best friends so tragically.

Consumed by her feelings most days, the adrenaline rush diving offers, gives her a few moments reprieve from the memories haunting her. Yet on a warm summer day a year after losing Mona and Jax, a jump from the falls at Phase Mountain unexpectedly thrusts her into the limelight.

Despite having spent her life believing she is inferior, by all accounts, she holds the key to repairing the deadly phenomenon wreaking destruction throughout the shifter community.

Phase of Fate is a brilliantly constructed unique take on shifters. CoraLee is building a world with remarkably relatable characters and intricate histories alongside a complex mystery to be unraveled. All of this and an angsty romance with a myriad emotions and I’m on the edge of my seat waiting for what comes next.

Can we talk about that cliffy though?! 🤯

Coralee June can truly write any genre. Phase of Fate is a brilliantly captivating and creatively inspired paranormal triumph. The world building, the mystery, and the mysticism all create an intoxicating and foreboding aura, and like always, Coralee gives us flawed and dynamic characters that capture our hearts. This paranormal mystery with a slow-burning romance is a marked shift from the stories of late, a savvy return to her writing roots, and I gobbled it right up. Prepare to fall in love with a world you've yet to met and the curious characters that are trying to survive it. Because Fate is calling...

If you’ve read CoraLee June before, you’ll know by now there’s only one thing you can expect- THE UNEXPECTED. Cora is an author that thinks outside of the box. Not only does she consistently reimagine and reinvent the worlds she inhabits, but she takes on romantic tropes and genres and totally flips them on their heads. It’s radically refreshing to see an author actively rebuking the generic conventions of the romance world. The result is that Cora treats us to concepts, characters, worlds, and narrative arcs that lure us in with their delicious familiarity but then mesmerize and astound us in their creative prowess and originality. And Phase of Fate is such a fine example of her artistic talents- it’s unique, it’s unusual, it’s captivating. A PNR suspense that introduces a mating structure and shifter world architecture unlike any we’ve ever heard of before, a mystery that unfolds in ways surprising and riveting, characters that play on the best of the trope but also elevate it. Prodigies, shifters, myth and lore, elite leaders, feral wolves, and mating bonds- it all comes together in a beautiful and haunting symphony, like the sounds of a wolf pack howling in the moonlight.

But manage your expectations, this story is certainly divergent from the dark and steamy treats Cora has written of late- and that is by design. That is not these characters, that is not this world. This is SUPER slow burning romance, one where the mystery and the world building carry significant and meaningful narrative weight. This story will put you under a mesmerizing spell. And as always, Cora dives deep into the hearts of her characters. This first book in the trilogy is an immerize psychological exploration of everything that makes these characters tick- their aspirations, failures, flaws, and desires. All while they are trying to figure out the ever evolving challenges that face their communities- and the past and present decisions that impacted their world view. There’s a melancholic existentialism to this story that grabs you completely- you feel these characters’ struggles, grapple with the world in the way they do.

Halle, our heroine, is a triumph- she represents every insecurity I’ve face, every listless longing that has weighed me down. How fitting that a character that has felt so periphery in her own life becomes the center of this sprawling paranormal mystery, how beautiful that we get to walk in her shoes as she finds her own purpose and voice. I can’t wait to see what more she discovers about her own heart and mind- and how she explores her tense but magnetic bond with our shifter Theo.

The cliffhanger is a brilliant bomb- the implications many, and I can’t wait to see how this unfolds. Fate and hate are seemingly at odds, and now it’s up to these characters to see just what will prevail.

Is there any romance trope that Coralee June cannot slay? I don't think so. She has outdone herself in Phase of Fate. This shifter paranormal romance was exciting. Mindblowing. Brilliantly planned and more brilliantly executed. This thrilling and jaw dropping romance has my heart and soul in its palm and I am obsessed.

This is book one of a trilogy.Halle Whitney hate shifters. Her family is the guardian of The Phase Mountain where the shifters live. The shifters get bound to a prodigy whom they are supposed to protect at any cost. Till her sister Mona's guardian Jax went feral and killed Mona. The balance shifted a lot after that. And fate decides to intervene when during an accidental encounter; Halle is bound with Theo, an alpha shifter. Now everyone in the world thinks she is the cure for all the shifters going feral all over the world in last few years. The powerful and rich and genius people need to study her. But at what cost?

Now that synopsis holds just a tiny percentage of emotional rollercoaster this book is. I am marvelling at the author's imagination. How she created this entire world with details and secrets and layers and then easily transported us that world. Halle is an amazing character. She has so many darkness and yet she is just bold and brave and beautiful. The grief and anger from losing her sister. The feeling of being insignificant her whole life. And now being thrown into this chaos where people are prodding around her already messy life. And then there is Theo. He trained hard and sacrificed a lot for his alpha status and now he has been forced into a bond he never wanted. Not only that, he feels a deep seated unexplainable soul wrecking pull for a human. Halle is bitter and closed off and acting out a lot but she cannot deny Theo makes her feel warm and protected against all her instincts. And she cannot definitely ignore this intense and tantalising attraction slowly creeping in her heart. Now this story is minefield of mind games and power plays and old curses and new beginnings. So many is at risk and I am so scared for Halle and Theo. They are at the brink of something monumental that will chase so many lives. My heart was beating so fast as it came to that shocking ending.

Phase of Fate by Coralee June is magic in pages. And I dare you to get under it's spell.

Halle was the sister in the background of her sister, the Prodigy's life. Mona was the special one, born for the spotlight. Halle was never special, never wanted attention. All she wanted was a thrill. And now she's bonded and considered the most important Prodigy in existence. There has to be a mistake.

I am convinced Coralee can write any genre. I first discovered her with The Walker Series and followed that up with The Bullets. She's flirted with the paranormal, written suspense, ventured into bully and sports romances, and lately toyed with pure psycho RH. Such diversity. Honestly, I was afraid she would never return to the paranormal realms since she has had such success with bully romance RH, and I am thrilled I was wrong. This is a triumphant and welcome return. This book is fantastic. Cora loves complicated, beautifully flawed characters who thrive when pushing each other to the edge. Halle and Theo are as different and alike as two people can be. Yes, I stand by this statement. Under the best circumstances, they would have provoked one another. These are not the best of times. You could feel the explosion coming, and of course, wish for a certain outcome. But we all knew it wouldn't be that easy. Coralee then places her characters in an intricately developed world, and in this case, placed them in impossible situations. The history and worldbuilding are excellent, the suspense and danger well-done. As a reader, I was enthralled from the first page. The opening scene went from hilariously ridiculous to heartbreaking within pages. Soon I was swept away with worry, anger, disgust, fear, wanting, curiosity. It is an original shifter/human storyline with twists and turns, sass and spice, and a cliffhanger that will leave you begging for book 2.

Awesome story, weak execution, annoying AF uninspired characters. This sucker dragggggged, let me tell you!

Amazing beginning and totally intriguing ending and cliffhanger but everything in between was so so boring. There is a ton of telling verses showing and so much info dumping that this felt like a chore to even get through. I failed to connect to the characters because of their failure to make connections to each other; all the stilted dialogue didn’t help either. Most of the time every single character (except Delilah) was either overacting or overreacting. Not fun, not sexy, not endearing. None of the interactions between the MCs and the MCs with the side characters worked for me; If they weren’t whining and bitching at each other then they were lecturing each other. This story could have been a total 5 star read with different characters. I’m not sure that the author really had a grasp on who these people were supposed to be and she didn’t seem to be inspired by them at all. I won’t be continuing on which kind of sucks because the world and plot that was created is pretty cool but I need to actually like the characters I’m reading about.

This book was incredible! I loved each and every moment of it. That gorgeous cover caught my eye and then realizing that Coralee June was the author was an immediate yes for me. I will read anything that June writes because she is brilliant.

What I really loved most about this book was the original take on wolf shifters. I had never read any similar lore or background and I found it very original. Her spin was just so unique and creative. When you read the same types of shifter stories over and over they can blend into the background but this book really stood out.

I was immediately pulled into the pages. I felt a legit connection to the storytelling. I have always loved June's blend of comforting prose and articulate ideas in her storytelling. Her books are always polished and read like a dream. This book really had me hooked from the beginning. The story was compelling and unpredictable in the best way. I loved the world-building in this book. It took me a few chapters to get a feel for the world but June does an awesome job of immersing the reader in it effortlessly. I am really loving the plot and the mystery at the core of the story that our characters are trying to solve. I did feel like the last twenty percent of the book was a little rushed. While the pacing got a little busy at the end, the story is very solid.

I loved Halle's character. She was bold, capable, and unapologetically herself. I loved seeing her stick up for herself when the occasion arose. She wasn't afraid to speak her mind, even to the most intimidating people. She didn't take herself too seriously and she was very loyal. I think that she has some work to do in the self-worth department but I expect that will come with her character development over the series. I also adored Theo. He was kind of magnetic in a way. I felt that he didn't get as much development as Halle but what I saw of him I liked. He was also loyal and very duty-driven. I liked his character development in this book as he dealt with the new roles in his life and how Halle's appearance in his life has changed his. He tends to want to turn around and run instead of face his problems straight on when it comes to Halle but just because he is afraid of the outcomes. He does care deeply and is quite a force to be reckoned with. I am eager to see more of his character development as the series continues. There were many secondary characters that were intriguing, amusing, and interesting.

I don't want to give anything away with regard to the romance in the series but I will say that I am enjoying it so far. I really loved the enemies-to-lovers aspect of the story and the reasons why. I loved seeing Halle and Theo come together and share pieces of themselves with one another. I think that they both had to get out of their own heads and work through some things internally before they could really accept each other and the bond that they share. Their feelings are plain as day and I am so eager to see what becomes of them in the next book.

Overall, this was such a unique and memorable book! I was really impressed with June's creative take on wolf shifters. These characters made an impression on me as well and I am so eager to continue their story! I can't recommend this book enough to all of my paranormal romance friends!

This was my first read by Coralee June, and I was pleasantly surprised.
The storyline of Phase of Fate was truly unique. While I haven't read a lot of books in this genre, this one definitely held my interest. It was easy to follow. The author's writing style was great and kept me engaged.

The concept of guardians, shifters and mates all rolled into one was genius. Halle was stubborn and jaded, but for great reasons. Theo's entire life course was thrown off the rails by this bond. Delilah was strong, brilliant and protective.
Everyone just added their own great characteristics to this book, and I loved that!

I'll definitely read more by them!

4.5 stars! This was a very interesting and unique spin on a wolf shifter story! The relationship between the shifters and humans is almost symbiotic in nature, where a mate-like connection is forged between shifter and prodigy, and the shifter becomes the prodigy’s protector, but also their grounding force, their soul mate, although it’s not intended to be romantic.

Halle has grown up in her prodigy sister’s shadow her whole life. Not a prodigy herself, she finds herself always feeling less than, unimportant, and insignificant. She has also grown up surrounded by shifters, completely comfortable with them, having never known a life without them and the comfort and protection they offer. But when tragedy strikes, and her entire world is turned upside down, that world she was so comfortable with suddenly becomes everything she hates and fears. Lost in her grief, Halle does anything she can to feel alive and not afraid, which ultimately leads to another significant event that will once again change her life and her beliefs forever, as she suddenly becomes the possible key to saving shifters and prodigies alike.

This is such an interesting story in it’s progression. Going from such a complete level of comfort and peace, to a heartbeat later absolute abhorrence for everything she ever thought she knew. When she’s forced to confront that part of her life again, the deep conflict between what was once so natural and normal and what is now a source of intense pain, learning to trust herself and those she had completely lost trust in. Both sides of the tragedy have experienced great loss, and in an effort to try to move forward and fix the problem, some make better choices than others. As Halle navigates her new circumstances, she struggles to reconcile her head and her heart, and the journey is heartbreaking and beautiful.

As this is the start of a series, this book really does a great job of building this world and these characters and how they interact and feel about each other. There is a lot of depth, both sides dealing with immense pain. The ending throws a huge twist, and major cliffhanger that will completely change the trajectory of the story, and I am dying to see where it’s going to lead us!

*I received a free copy of this book which I voluntarily chose to write an honest review for.

This is an interesting start to a new series. Halle has spent her entire life living in her sisters shadow but things change when a freak events kills the sister. Halle is determined to move on if possible but things come to a head when she sneaks onto pack lands only to find herself drawn to a very important shifter making him her protector. The problem is that she has no clue what her prodigy skill may be and he has been raised to take over as the alpha for the pack when it is time. He cannot do that as part of bond. This makes for some interesting first encounters as they both try fight what fate has given. Great world building filled with plenty of quirky characters. I really liked it so I give it 4/5 stars.

HOLD UP! I've got to take a moment to soak in all that Phase of Fate is as a book. I knew CoraLee could write, and when she decided to write a PNR novel, I clapped my hands and did a happy dance. I love love love me some PNR, and I was eagerly anticipating what one of my favorite authors would do with the genre. Uh folks, she just blew me away with this book. Not only is it PNR, but it's also suspense, mystery, dystopian, urban fantasy, hot shifters, intrigue, drama (but not angst), and so much more.

I'm reading, and within the first part of the book, there is jaw-dropping action that leads into a story that is so unique and well-thought-out that this book is literally unputdownable until the cliffhanger ending that leaves you gasping and screaming for the second part of this duet. Duet schmuet--I want a whole series based around this brilliant concept. An entire world could be built from this urban fantasy--it's that good.

Halle has never considered herself special, and she's ok with that, but fate has different plans for Halle. Theo was ready to slide into the role he had been trained for his entire life, but fate had different plans for Theo. Their story and the story of their world slowly unfold for you as the mystery grows. It's a wild ride that makes for exceptional reading. Legends are dug up; evil people want things to stay the same in their twisted world where only extraordinary people have power. Halle and Theo can change that, but others don't want that to happen.

Coralee bravely took a step into a new genre, and I am so glad she did. I believe this is my favorite book by her, and I can't wait to see what she has for us next.

I’m a huge fan of Paranormal Romance, especially anything involving Shifters, so when I saw that this author was releasing one I was insanely excited.

Phase of Fate is a Paranormal Shifter Romance, and it is also one of the most unique ones that I have read. The system of the Prodigies and Guardians is something unique that I personally have not seen from any other PNR that I have read in the past.

I really enjoyed this book. I like Halle, though some of her decision’s irked me on occasion, but I can see where she is coming from with the situation and circumstances in the story, and is it really a good book if it doesn’t make you feel? This one is an enemies to lovers story with a little bit of forbidden mixed in there.

I as always loved CoraLee’s writing, the characters, even the side characters, the storyline, and this new shifter/prodigy system she created was really fun to read. This book does end on a cliffhanger but in my personal opinion it just leaves you excited for what’s to come. I am very excited for the next book and to see where the story is heading.

If you love PNR you need to pick this one up!

Is there anything and I mean anything that Coralee can’t write, I think not! And this right here is proof of that. The way that she builds the world so effortlessly and vividly, the pure enchantment involved is simply breathtaking. From the moment I opened this book I was utterly hypnotized. I couldn’t put it down; start to finish I was in the story right along with the characters. Feeling every emotion, every heartbreak, every tear and slice of pain, I felt it all! Coralee created pure unadulterated magic with this book.

I don’t’ want to say much because I feel like this is the type of book you need to go into blind. But just know that Coralee’s ability to layer such complex and dynamic tones and mystery’s throughout will keep you on the edge of your seat. This is book one in a trilogy and I for one can’t wait to see what happens next!!!! Brilliantly done Coralee

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Coralee June!

Phase of Fate is the first book in the Phase Mountain Pack series and tells the story of Halle and Theo.

I’ve read a few books by Coralee June but they were all Romance books, so Phase of Fate is my first Fantast book by her. I didn’t really know what to expect, but after reading the synopsis I knew that I was going to enjoy this book. Coralee June created such an interesting world with amazing characters, and I read this book in one day. Phase of Fate was just that good. It was really hard to put this book down because I really wanted to know what was going to happen and how the book was going to end.

I really loved Halle as a character because she’s not a perfect girl, she was so relatable, and I enjoyed reading in her perspective. I really liked getting to know her and seeing her change towards the end of the book. Theo is also an amazing character, when I first read about him, I knew that I was going to love him. I really enjoyed the slow-burning romance between Halle and Theo, and I loved their moments together. I also really liked Delilah, and I’m looking forward to getting to know her better.

Phase of Fate was such a well-written, addictive read, and I’m so happy that I picked up this book, and discovered Coralee June’s books in general. She’s such a talented author and I’ve read and loved all of the books I’ve read by her so far. If you’re looking for a Shifter Romance with slow-burn, grief, some action and many more? Then Phase of Fate is definitely something for you! I really loved this book and I’m eagerly waiting for the next book in the series, Phase of Hate.

Where do I even begin? This story is a rollercoaster ride packed with action, mystery, adventure, romance, and crazy twists and turns that will pack a punch. I love shifter books and this one seriously is one of my favorites with how unique the storyline is as well as how captivated you are from the very start with this world.

Halle is a character you can't help but relate and sympathize with from the very start. She goes through so much and I love that growth and internal battle. She's just such a real and relatable character with her vulnerabilities and I appreciated her even more for it.

Theo is delicious, I love me a domineering broody shifter alpha. From the moment they meet, I knew we were in for a ride. Their push and pull is DELICIOUS. This is a slow burn of epic proportions but its worth every second. I loved their chemistry and how magnetic they are.

This was easily a favorite read of 2022 for me even with that cliffhanger! I need the next book asap and can't wait to see where this story goes, I'm hooked.

Phase of Fate
Author: Coralee June

Stars: 5/5

Look, I don't know why I ever go into a Coralee June book and expect nothing less than amazing. Her imagination, her wit and her writing style all come together to create perfection, every sing time. When she decides to dabble in paranormal, I get extra excited because that is my jam and I know she will create a story unique to anything I have ever read.

Well, she absolutely did create a unique world that blew my mind. Just when I think I have read every story about wolf shifters possible, in comes Theo and Halle and turns my shifter loving world upside down. It has action, angst, secrets and lies galore. It will throw you for a loop while you are trying to figure out the whole mystery. It is a slow burn, take my heart and soul M/F paranormal romance and my only regret is that I read through this book so fast, without putting it down and now it is over.

I can't stress enough how amazing this story is. I am eagerly waiting for the next part of this book so my soul can be right again.

Firstly let me admit I’ve never fancied PNR before but I thought I’d give it a go but O.M.G. am I glad I did!!! This book is just epic!! I loved every part of it (well nearly every part - CoraLee you know EXACTLY what I’m referring to!!

Halle has been through the mill and had her life totally ripped apart and turned upside down, but she still feels this deep yearning to try and fix things

Theo is trying to get his head around the fact what he’s trained all his life so far for, now has a total new meaning and he has to get onboard quickly!

I loved the back and forth with these characters, neither suffer fools gladly and their new dynamic makes for interesting reading - there’s a few twists and it does end on a cliffhanger but oh it was so worth it!

If I could give it more than ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I would - CoraLee get writing - I need book 2 now!
