Lieutenant George Hastings, a cool-headed, quick-thinking police detective, leapt to the forefront of the St. Louis Police Department when two beat cops were gunned down, and he led the joint FBI/police taskforce that caught the killer.
Now he is back at work with the FBI on a new case: Cordelia Penmark, the daughter of a wealthy businessman, has been kidnapped and her boyfriend callously executed outside of a posh holiday party for his law firm.
The murder was clearly a message—the kidnappers are willing to take this as far as they have to—and the target and the ransom demand indicate that the crime is politically motivated. But the investigators are stumped. Wary because of bruised egos on his team and bad blood among members of the young woman's family, and suspicious of the kidnappers' intentions, Hastings knows that there's more than simple politics in play as the kidnappers pull him and the girl's father into a deadly game of cat and mouse.
Slick, sharp, and authentic, Goodbye Sister Disco, the sequel to the acclaimed novel The Betrayers, establishes James Patrick Hunt as one of crime fiction's rising stars.
James Patrick Hunt is the author of several books and e-books. He was born in Surrey, England in 1964 and graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in aerospace engineering in 1986. He graduated from Marquette University Law School in 1992. He lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma where he writes and practices law.
If you’re looking for something not too deep but fast-moving, enjoyable and interesting, this is a good book. To me, the author reminds me of an updated Ed McBain. He doesn’t bother with too much personal stuff and backstory, primarily focusing on the case at hand.
I read one other book by Mr. Hunt and enjoyed that as well. Finished this one in 2 nights and will definitely continue to read this author.
the daughter of a billionaire is kidnapped by a militant group..are they kidnapping for a cause?? is the billionaires family really sooo dysfunctional?? will detective hastings follow the clues correctly and find the girl before she is killed?? and do these killers really have such disregard for humanity that they kill soo easily??
Lieutenant Hastings has to figure out who kidnapped a billionaire's daughter for ransom, who also killed her boyfriend. Very few clues to go on in the beginning, but then some clues lead to a break in the case. Good plot and descriptive characters, but too much filthy language that doesn't add to the story. I also like reading about places I know in the St. Louis area.
