An obsessive writer. A heartthrob neighbor. And a family wedding that will throw everything on its head. This is it. Victorine has finally gone from a thriller author to a complete mental case. Her characters always spoke to her, but not while literally standing in her apartment. She has no idea how her rogue hero materialized in real life, but he needs to stop distracting her so she can focus on killing his girlfriend and finishing her novel. Maybe an impromptu road trip with her heartthrob neighbor Charles will sort her out. He's a therapist, after all. But what's more dangerous to her heart than a rogue fictional man? A real one. Contains mature themes.
This is a sweet love story between Victorine and Charles. The author brings strong characters and an interesting story line. She brings drama along with the hot chemistry as they journey toward their HEA. It's well written ,moves quickly and smoothly and is an enjoyable read.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Great story until the pre-marital sex. While it was referred to, but not described, so I guess that makes it “clean” but it annoyed me as I prefer they wait until marriage.
This was a weird story. First, all the names of the characters are names of actual authors which was bizarre to me. But, also the storyline was just weird. Didn’t do it for me. At all.

Victorine is use to writing about characters that have a way of dying off. She’s use to having hunky guys and beautiful women caught in life shattering dilemmas , after all she writes them into her horror stories. But one thing she is not use to …. playing a starring role in a real life sci fi. Yep, I say sci fi because how else would you describe getting a surge of electricity through your body and then having one of your main characters jump out of those pages and partake in your real life?
So, what’s an award winning author to do? Have all those horror stories taken her mind hostage? How else can you explain your fictional character showing up in your home? Well, you go on a road trip with your good looking neighbor who just happens to be a therapist, of course. If anyone can help, surely its him. Never mind that he’s single, good looking and intriguing. Oh, and did I forget to mention he’s just gotten over a heartbreak himself? Charles and Victorine take to the road and it’s a long and steep uphill climb all the way. Ahhhhh, but there’s always the mountain top where the view is great and the air is fresh…
And what about Daniel, that fictional character who insists on having his love life rewritten …. well, as the Good Book says, all things come to those who wait.

Popsugar Reading Challenge 2024 - #04. A book about a writer:
This was charming. I found Victorine endearing from the start, and when her writer's block manifested into her seeing one of her characters, I just went with it. I think every writer has had a conversation or several with their characters, especially when they're blocked.
Charles was just as endearing and good for Victorine, someone who doesn't handle loss, pain, or confrontation well. Their miscommunications annoyed me a bit, but it was completely in character for Victorine to simply shut down and walk away.
As usual, I pick up a series somewhere in the middle, so I have to go back to read the first two books.
The Wonders Of True Love - Charles and Victorine started out as awkward acquaintances, but the more time they spent together, made them realise that they were each other’s one. Their journey to healing their hearts is fraught with so many obstacles, but they are able to navigate through and find true peace.
This book was a well written and thoroughly enjoyable read, with a captivating plot and interesting characters to keep you entertained. When I started reading it, I didn’t think I would enjoy it so much, that I couldn’t put it down until I finished.
I received a copy of this ARC and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Even though this is a series I had no problems reading it without reading the two prior. This was my first time reading this author but I can guarantee this won't be my last.
I got exactly what I expected with this story. It was a super fun, quirky book. The female lead was the perfect combination of clutz and imagination , she was relatable and kept me smiling.
The only thing that confused me was the wedding at Nona's house. Since that visit was not planned was Charles originally not going to be there? Overall that was a small detail and did not detract from the story.
Victorine is a thriller author who's whole life revolved around her bestselling books...until one day she gets electrocuted and one of her characters appears in her apartment asking her to change her story. After doctors confirm that she's fine, her only other option is asking her neighbor, who also happens to be a therapist, for help. A little bit of a road trip and family drama pushes these two together in a natural way. The chemistry between Victorine and Charles was incredible. It was short and sweet and I read it in one sitting. Loved every page.
This is the story of an author who’s character comes to life and begs her not to kill his girlfriend. Of course nobody else can see him. And then we have the handsome neighbor who happens to be a psychologist.
It was a good read, but it didn’t capture my attention right from the start like most of Jessie’s books do. It took a chapter or two to hook me, but once I was hooked I couldn’t put it down. Give it a chance and it’ll hook you too.
I received a complimentary copy of this book and I chose to leave my honest review.
We all know of historical authors that have gone crazy..is Victorine next? She is a thriller author who is talking to one of her characters. He is begging his fictional love life be saved. Yep, she has gone crazy. What better way to be saved? a Roadtrip and a therapist. Who is sweet, loveable, and perfect for Victorine. Yes, you will laugh a little, as all three books in this series have made me giggle. Bit overall it is just very sweet and endearing. You can't miss with Jessie Cal's storytelling.
Oh this book. It was a true joy to read. As a writer, I found it really relatable. Victorine is a fab character who gets into some super cringe-worthy situations. I was literally coiling up in a ball thinking “noooooo!” In one scene. The romance is lovely and swoon-worthy. I have loved every book in this series but this one wins my heart. No filler, boring bits. Just lots of lovely dopamine hits with every page. Loved it. A very worthy 5 star read.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great drama and romance with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
A Beautiful ending (or, actually beginning). to a Beautiful LOVE song!
You will need to read it to understand, but, I'm REALLY hoping for a 'follow-on' book that will continue this story to a Wedding, and enough little people to fill a giant hotel! But, we'll have to wait until we see what the excellent Author thinks about this. So, my final word to her is PLEEEEASE¡!!!!!!!!!!
I loved this lovely novella. Victorine is an author with writer's block. This is an entertaining love story with humorous antics. A quick read that you will be sorry to miss. I received this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
It's not easy to make people laugh while on the edge of their seat, but Jessie pulls it off! If you're looking for a romantic comedy with steamy kisses and hilarious fall-out-of-the-window-and-fall-naked-in-a-hot-tub situations, pick this series up. You won't regret it.
This is the 3rd book I read by Jessie Cal. I loved ❤ the previous books 📚 I NEVER TOLD YOU & DISCOVERED BY YOU. This story was confusing & I couldn't connect with it like the others.
I'm glad it was a romance and not a real mystery. I'm not sure I would have liked reading the story she wrote; hate cliffhangers. Glad this story ended with a hea.
3.5 stars An easy & quick, if slightly unusual read.
Vicky is a successful author of thriller novels. She is having trouble finding an ending for her current book because she is reluctant to kill off the main female character, even though that is a signature plot point in all her books.
She is milling over ways for the heroine to die when she hits her head. She wakes up with a visual hallucination of her main character's love interest pleading with her not to kill his love. No matter where she goes he follows her around, distracting her from finishing the book and thereby killing off his girlfriend.
Vicky's neighbour Charles is a therapist. Probably the perfect person to help her in this situation. They are only friendly acquaintances despite having lived next door to each other for 5 years. But when Charles witnesses Vicky's injury and offers help they start talking and end up agreeing to take a short road trip together. Charles' friend is getting married out of town and Vicky agrees to go with him, hoping a change of scenery will help her writer's block.
Along the way Vicky and Charles make the connection between Vicky's past in foster care and her struggle with allowing her heroines to have a happy ending. Vicky and Charles seem to have an almost insta-love once they actually start talking to each other and it doesn't take long for the romance to bloom.
A typical misunderstanding occurs just after, but all is quickly and neatly resolved and tied up with a bow in the cute epilogue.
This is a clean romance with no descriptive love scenes.
“Stay back!” she yelled, looking for something to defend herself with. All she could find was a hardcover book on her nightstand. She grabbed it and aimed it at the young man, who was now on his feet looking quite amused. “What…you’re going to papercut me to death?” he teased.
“My love for you has no bounds,” he whispered, pulling her close. “I will defy even the impossible if it means saving you.”
Victorine is a thriller author. And with her correct book, she has finally completely lost it. She was now actually seeing one of the characters in real life. But of course no one else can see her character. So she needs help. Maybe taking an impromptu road trip with her handsome neighbor, Charles who is also a therapist. This should be interesting.
I thought that was an okay book. I enjoyed seeing how Victorine overcame her writer's block. I did like seeing Charles and Victorine together. 3.25 stars.
I feel like part of the story was missing. They went from neighbors who barely knew each other to being in love in a matter of days. The relationship did not develop. And the book character who showed up was odd addition to the story.
