Deep in the swamps of Louisiana, Detective London Carter investigates a double murder in Magnolia Parish.A father and son are watching television in their living room when they are suddenly and brutally gunned down. It doesn’t take London long to develop possible suspects, but all of the motives are weak, and London is left wondering if there’s someone else out there with an axe to grind. The murder weapon is a rare one, and it might help identify the killer…if only London could find it.Meanwhile, Detective Dawn Luke’s own hands are full when she receives a call from a mother whose daughter went missing twenty-one years earlier. Dawn vows to find answers for the still-grieving mother, but, for her efforts, her own world might come crashing down. With only two months left to go before their wedding, London and Dawn each find themselves wondering if they’ll make it to the altar.

THE CASES KEEP COMING BUT THEY SEEM NOT TO HAVE A CONNECTION . . . MAYBE THEY DO. BY 54% I HAD FIGURED OUT THE MISSING GIRL MYSTERY THE REST TURNED OUT TO BE MORE COMPLEX MYSTERY. THE PAST CRASHES HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH A DEVASTATING OUTCOME FOR ALL. ;D
I loved the story but with all the suspects names it was hard to keep them all straight. I guess that’s life but in my reading world I like less names and more suspense!
I didn’t understand the meaning of this title until the end, not that it bothered me. Given what it refers to, I kind of wish it lead to a broader mystery, but this was fine as it stands.
London is tasked with solving the murder of a father and son. While he investigates those violent killings, Dawn stumbles into a cold case and won’t give up on it. As I’ve come to expect from this author, the two investigations eventually intersect. Usually that doesn’t bother me because the small town and same timeline make linked cases believable. This time, it’s a bit more far-fetched. That coupled with some editing issues soured me a bit on the story. It was redeemed by a great ending. Still, I'd lean more toward a 3.5 than a 4. Maybe 3.75 stars?
I don’t know whether this series will continue. If it does, I’ll give the next book a chance. If it doesn’t, London had a short but decent run, and he does pop up occasionally in the Clint Wolf series, so we know he’s well on his way to a happily ever after.
Really enjoying the series, but each book could also be enjoyed as a stand alone.
When an investigation into a, seeming unsolvable case of a missing girl from 21 years ago starts to share names from a recent double murder case the team try to figure out the connection and how do these seemingly unrelated cases cross over. Who else is involved and whom can they trust.
Mr. Bourg has once again succeeded in presenting a great "who done it"! I have read each of this series from the start, along with the Clint Wolf series. Wonderful writing and keeps you going, wanting more. My wife is currently 2/3 through the Clint Wolf series and absolutely loves it.
Twenty plus years is a long time. Even when a son dies and is part of the collateral damage there is still more to the story. Land is more important than blood and money is paid for in blood. The crimes are intertwined with hard feelings of the neighborhood. So lust, money, concealment and Power all combines to make a very good read.
Well I finally got my London fix. This was so riveting and unputdownable, just goes to show what a family can do to each other, it’s horrific. But it had a really happy ending with the new Mr and Mrs Carter. I can’t wait for their next case.
I think I have read every book that BJ Bourg has published. Every one of them are fantastic. This one is the best. I have been known to say that every time I finish one of his books. There are so many twists and turns. I love it. His books are so well written.
I have read every BJ Bourg book. This book, Murderfield get me spellbound with all the twists and turns and intrigue. If you want a good legal thriller the London in Carter series is one of the best I've ever read
Awesome book, excellent twist and turns in the story. It was really exciting to read the book, the way BJB had linked both together finally. Just couldn't keep the book down.
Enjoyed how the author tied in his actual career experience with his variety of cases and characters. Most of all it gave me a better understanding of what takes place enforcing law and order at the county or parish level throughout our country.
Mr Bourg, your books are amazing. Great mystery stories and not a bunch of unnecessary drama! I've read all the Clint Wolf series and London Carter, can't wait for the next books to come out. Thank You 😊
Great novel. Kept me second guessing every move. Thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Have enjoyed all of BJ Bourg’s books. Looking forward to next installments.
