His books include a history of the Glasgow Citizens Theatre and biographies of Maggie Smith, Mike Leigh and Andrew Lloyd Webber. He regularly contributes to the Independent, Guardian, Observer, New Statesman, Prospect and BBC Radio's Front Row. He lives in England.

How does one write a biography about an actress who dislikes discussing herself? Very carefully. If you are a fan of the great actress Maggie Smith, get this book. Tastefully done and informative.
