Roxanne "Roxie" no last name ever mentioned, I think, if it was, it was only mentioned once, is the daughter of an outlaw MC president with an older brother, Ice, who is a member of their dad's club. His name says it all about him but he loves his sister and would do anything for her which he proves at the beginning of the book. Both Roxie and Ice were brought up in the MC and that is the place they call home until they can't. Neither one will ever be the same.
Cross, a road name, president of the Devil's Nightmare MC, another outlaw MC. Last name Whittaker, though no one except Tank, a life long friend of Cross, and his daughter Lily's school, know this is his last name. We never find out what his given first name is.
When Lena sees her father being killed by Lizard, another MC president, who has plans to wipe out her father's club and abduct her is saved when her brother, who is coming home find them and takes on Lizard and his "henchmen" giving his wallet to Roxie and tells her to run. SHe doesn't want to but she can tell if she doesn't her brother will be disappointed in her and her fear makes her run and run she does. SHe keeps running until she can't run anymore.
She finds herself a high school graduate, on the street, fending for herself. SOmehow, she works as many jobs as she can and puts herself through college, ending with a degree in social work. Which she works at while she is getting her license as a school counselor.
She finds herself in a small town in California, with her first job as a middle school guidance counselor, six years away from her old home outside of Chicago, hoping that Lizard will never find her knowing he will always look for her since she is the last surviving member of her father's family and MC.
First day at her new job she sees a man drop off his daughter and finds him interesting, knows he is out of her league, dropping a girl off for school. Soon she meets the daughter, Lily Eagle Feather, who is the resident bully of the school.
This is how the story begins. The characters, even the minor ones, are written well and the story develops at a perfect pace. I will continue reading this series to see where the characters go.
