Authors Kay Lagerquist and Lisa Lenard wrote in the Introduction to this 1999 book, “Every number tells a story---and the story it tells is the story of you. And the best thing about numerology is that all you need to know is your birth name and your birth date—it’s that simple. From those two pieces of information, you’ll create your numerology chart. Basically, your numerology chart consists of 5 core numbers: your Life Path Number, your Destiny Number, your Soul Number, your Personality Number, and your Maturity Number. Taken together, these 5 numbers paint a singular portrait of who you are---both the secret you and the you who everyone else sees. There are also numbers all around us, and we’ll show you how to find your personal days, months, and years, as well as how to live in the house that’s right for you. With numerology to guide you, you can direct your life by the numbers.” (Pg. xxvii) The Foreword explains that numerology is “the study of the spiritual qualities of numbers and letters, has been one of the greatest gifts in my life.”
They explain in chapter 1, “There are many ways to wisdom… and numerology is one of the most intriguing. You may have already heard of astrology, the Tarot, or palmistry, which are also methods of knowing yourself and your future. Numerology is one more metaphysical science, but it’s the least known. As an accurate, easy-to-use system for divining the future, however, numerology may prove an easy way for you to find some wisdom of your own. What, for example, if we told you your birthday means something? Or that your name will reveal your destiny?” (Pg. 3)
They continue, “Numerology is the study of the significance or names and numbers. [It] is the language of numbers, as well as a system of relating numbers and names to teach us about the human condition. You can think of numerology as the science of number vibrations, with each number having its own vibratory influence. Based on the belief that a person comes into this life on a certain date, with a certain name, numerology uses numbers to tell who a person is and what the map is for his or her life.” (Pg. 4)
They observe, “The beauty of numerology is that you don’t have to study long before insights begin to come. That’s because, of all the metaphysical sciences, numerology is the easiest to learn! Perhaps its simplicity is why it’s not as widely known as its cousins, astrology and Tarot. After all, we live in an age when people seem to believe that the highest value goes to the most complex---and simplicity is undervalued or even discounted. As you will come to see, numerology’s beauty is in its straightforward simplicity.” (Pg. 19)
They outline the five ‘Core Numbers,’ “Numerology is a comprehensive system from which you will learn the following: >Your Life Path Number: Your own special path that you walk in this lifetime. This number shows the natural gifts and talents that will allow you to fulfill your destiny. >Your Destiny Number: The Purpose and direction of your life… >Your Soul Number: this is your heart’s desire and your inner motivation, and reveals what you long for in your heart of hearts. >Your Personality Number: This number shows how others see you. It is the outer look you wear and how others define you. >Your Maturity Number: this number shows the direction for the second half of your life. It represents the ‘true you,’ as you begin to live in harmony with your inner and outer selves.” (Pg. 20)
They state, “Numerology Rule #1: Reduce numbers to a single digit. Add all your numbers together to get a single number. Following rule #1, if you were born on the 14th of the month, add 1 + 4 to get the reduced number 5. You’ve got a 5 birthday!” (Pg. 22) They explain that the five ‘Core Numbers’ are derived by adding together the vowels of your name, adding the consonants, adding both, adding your date of birth numbers, etc. (Pg. 46)
They suggest, “Spiritual numerology embraces the idea of reincarnation; that is, that the soul is ongoing, while the physical body is temporary. The idea, then, would be that you are a soul having a physical experience in this lifetime. It also suggests that your soul was somewhere else before it came here to this lifetime (incarnation).” (Pg. 48)
They assert, “The numbers 11, 22, and 33 are called ‘master numbers’ because they are considered to have more potential than the other numbers. The 11 is considered the most intuitive of all the numbers, and 22 is considered the most powerful of all the numbers, and the 33 is thought to be the most loving of all the number… There are as many master numbers as can be configured from repeating the numbers 1 though 9. All of the following are considered master numbers: 11, 22, 33, 44, 55, 66, 77, 88, and 99… however, we’ll be confining our discussion to the three most commonly found numbers: 11, 22, and 33.” (Pg. 160)
They say, “While you can change your name, your birth date will never change (unless your mother got it wrong in the first place!). Your birth date is all yours, so it has a tale to tell about you alone. Your birth date—that is, the month, day and year you were born---is very important in numerology. It’s called your Life Path.” (Pg. 209)
They acknowledge, “Yep, mistakes are made on birth certificates. There are lots of stories about somebody goofing up the name on the birth certificate. What to do? Here’s the key: If your parents accepted the name goof or allowed the misspelling of the name (or wrong name!) to remain on your birth certificate, then the name on the birth certificate, with errors, is used to find your Destiny Number.” (Pg. 225)
They note, “While our nicknames or pet names being a certain personal response, and carry a vibrational frequency, these names aren’t to be considered part of the original 5 core numbers. Like any name you may add to your original set of birth names. It’s just that---an add-on. So consider the nickname as an added energy you have brought into your sphere of energy. Of course, it is valuable to figure the number for this nickname and the meaning of that number, just as we have figured the married name or the family name. In short, the nickname is an added energy and it figured separately from your original birth name.” (Pg. 402)
They conclude, “In this book, we’ve tried to show you how you can use harmoniously in your own life by knowing what your numbers’ energy reveals about you, those around you, and the things you surround yourself with. The rest is up to you. We wish you much joy and happiness---by the numbers.” (Pg. 418)
