Everyone should get a copy of Dr. Martha Boone’s THE UNFETTERED UROLOGIST. It’s a wonderful book—well-written, easily understandable, medically solid—focusing on urological issues and problems that we all will face, either personally or through a loved one. Let me repeat that. It deals with matters we all WILL face—not ones that MIGHT crop up.

You needn’t read the book cover-to-cover, but should at least keep it handy for the times you’ll have questions about the urology-related matters that will come your way. It’s a perfect primer. I found four or five topics in the book I’ve had deal with over the last 10 or 20 years, and sure wish I’d had a book I could have quickly referenced like this one.

Heck, if nothing else, grab a copy of THE UNFETTERED UROLOGIST and read Chapter XIV, “Meditation and Mind Management.” It alone is worth the cover price. But there are so many other chapters in Dr. Boone’s work about which the same could be said.

The book is a treasure. Take it from a guy who’s—ahem—been around awhile, that sooner or later you’re going to get up close and personal with one or more of the topics Dr. Martha Boone so forthrightly discusses in THE UNFETTERED UROLOGIST.

I was fortunate to receive an advanced reader copy of this informative book. Dr. Martha Boone, a distinguished urologist and surgeon, recently retired from medical practice and is now a full time author. In this book, she presents information on urological issues in a scientific manner for the medical community, and provides easily understood examples that are informative and helpful to patients who suffer from these conditions. She successfully combines scientific knowledge, personal experience, and her general love and respect for patients in a refreshing approach to urology. Her occasional antecdotes and sense of humor enhance her writing resulting in an educational text not to be missed! This book is an outstanding reference for other physicians, residents, and physical therapists as well as for male and female patients of all ages. Janet M. Brumfield, PT

Having never needed the services of a urologist but knowing many who have, I was interested to see what Dr Boone had to say and if I could find personal application. First, I am not a technically minded person and I was delighted the book was easily read and understood. More importantly, having kidney stones in the family, a husband who has lost a kidney to cancer and a grown child who has recurring UTI'S, I was blown away with the preventive knowledge as well as the management of existing issues. The author's sense of humor shines through as does her love and care for her patients. As a bonus, her chapters on what I would entitle life management, based on much of her personal life outside of the office/hospital is a prescription for living well. Well worth the read and added as a great reference book to my library.

This book draws on a lifetime of expert knowledge in the field. What is so great about it is that it is readable to the average person. You certainly don’t have to be a medical expert to not only read this book but keep it and refer to it when needed. She approaches the subject matter with examples, heart, and humor. I’d recommend this book to anyone seeking to understand the subject matter more thoroughly but in a way that feels as if they are speaking with a trusted friend. I also loved the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. Honestly, it’s just a great book, even if you’ve never required the help of a urologist. This is someone who genuinely cares about her patients. After reading it, I’m convinced it’s a good idea for any patient to learn to see things from the point of view of the doctor.

I was given an ARC of this book. This book is extremely informative, breaking down common urology issues in terminology that is understandable to patients and caregivers. I have to say that Dr. Boone's humor sprinkled in added such a great touch making a very serious issue relatable. This book is definitely educational on various health matters outlining step by step instructions for patients to take better care of themselves. The last few chapters gave great insight into Dr. Boone and left me feeling connected to her heart and soul of a caring and loving practitioner and surgeon. This book has enlightened me and reassured that this is the type of doctor I would want in my corner or any of my loved ones.

thank you, martha

I am glad martha wrote this book. If I had been able to sit with Martha and listen to her suggestions, I would not have the luxury of going back to read again and further research what she had been telling me.
Her writing style is superb: what she described (in laymen’s terms) made a very difficult subject more manageable for my brain.
She has common sense suggestions for mind twisting problems.
I urge you to read this book; it’s not a magic bullet but it will definitely help you meet difficult health issues and search for answers to solve them.

I received an early copy prior to publication.
I am an internal medicine physician and have practiced for 30+ years. I wish I had this book as a resource for me and for my patients. It's as if I have a urologist in my pocket helping me advise my patients. The book is written so that lay people can understand it and, for many conditions, individuals have easy, actionable instructions to address common urologic issues.

This is a great book for home and primary care offices!

I was fortunate enough to receive an advanced copy of this book and I couldn't put it down. I laughed, I cried, and I learned a lot about medicine. For anyone with urological issues this book is a godsend. From the author's anecdotes to the indepth descriptions of common (and not so common) urological issues the reader will feel empowered to tackle their next office visit. Thank you, Dr Boone, for your "love letter" to your patients.

If you have walked the halls of medicine as a patient or a healthcare professional you know there is a flood of information out there.
Dr. Boone has put her heart and soul (as well as her head) into compiling the best possible advice for urological and general health matters. By sharing personal experience with patients and her own healthcare, she gives us a great tool for our daily lives.
My advanced reader copy provides a wealth of readily available references.

I was blessed to receive an ARC of The Unfettered Urologist by Dr. Martha Boone. The book takes a deep dive into many urological diseases and complications. Dr. Boone outlines these so that any non-medical person could understand it plain and simple. She also throws in her real life experiences, which makes this book even more compelling to read. The book is very informative and tells the patients all the things that she didn’t have time to say in a short doctor appointment. Highly recommend!

I have picked up this book many times for both information and clarity on certain health issues. But what keeps me reading beyond those sections is Dr. Boone's personal reflections, both humorous and heartfelt. This led me to her works of fiction, which are centered around Mother Charity Hospital in New Orleans. It's always encouraging to know that our medical experts are imaginative, lively and dedicated in spite of the outrageous circumstances they find themselves in.

I was given an ARC (advanced reader copy) of this book. It has thorough medical information on all kinds of urological conditions, and bonus "real life" advice and information. This is a book for everyone. Read the chapter you need on your urological problem, but stay for the down to earth and thoughtful suggestions about your health, both physical and mental. Thank you, Dr. Boone!

I got this book just to read the one chapter pertaining to my own health challenges, but I ended up reading the whole book and enjoying it immensely. It’s full of great information, but best of all, it’s also full of wisdom, humor, and insight, and the author isn’t afraid to give her own opinion even if it differs from the “official scientific consensus.”

Well Balanced

This doctor has enough experience to broaden her knowledge base, and become more humble about the doctor patient relationship. She has studied widely, and found she even learned from a book which she described as “pseudoscience”, and others she labeled ‘Woo Woo.’

This books is interesting and engaging.
