Lonely and outcast by his classmates, Remus wishes on a moonshadow for a friend who understands him. To his amazement his wish is answered not once, but three times, by his former enemies, the Marauders.
This is the first and last fan fiction I’ll read but I loved it soooooo much!!!!! Wolfstar for the win. After all the pain Remus has faced I really hope he gets a happy ending 😊
i think the fact the author fucked up the characterisation of all of them to the point where peter was no doubt my favourite, says it all. it was impossible to see remus as mature or his development as a character, because he kept the same mindset from when he was 11, along with the same mannerisms. It felt like I was reading about 11 year olds the entire time, which, given some scenarios, was uncomfortable. along with all this, the way that fleamont and euphemia potter were written was horrid. how this author managed to turn them from the loving, accepting parents who took in strays, to ones who didn’t trust remus for a long time purely because he was a werewolf, shocks me. i don’t understand the good reviews in the slightest.
This is without a doubt the best fanfiction I have ever read, and in my mind it's now the Marauder era canon. It's incredibly well written, the characters feel true to themselves and the story is never boring or hard to follow. You get everything with this story - I've cried, laughed, wanted to shake some characters to their senses and felt the pain of knowing their futures. This story manages to capture both the terrible times of abuse and war and the good times of innocent Marauder pranks and friendship. It makes you fall in love with the characters (even more than before) and their relationships. Everything fits, both character wise and story wise, and you even get some moments of clarity when things about the magical world are finally explained (and it all makes so much sense!).
Casting Moonshadows is brilliant, and even though I don't know if we're ever going to be treated to the story of their seventh year, I'm SO happy to have found and read it. I have already read it twice through and I'm sure it'll be many more times in the future until I loose count - just like with Harry Potter. ❤️
The story is written from the perspectives of Remus and Sirius, and follows them from first to sixth year (as of now, chapter 86 being the last). It is simply wonderful and you HAVE to read it - it will definately fill that 'I need more new Potter-content' void in your heart!
After all this time...always. I finally re-read this after about 2 years of not looking at it at all and, quite honestly, it affected me just as much as it did back when I was around eleven. The storyline, the writing, the characters themselves are simply incredible. Read it.
4/5 ⭐️ Ohmygod a this fanfiction was amazing! I loved it! The ending gutted me tho! But Wolfstar!! 😍😍 It was awesome getting to know the Marauders from their first year at Hogwarts!
All The Young Dudes will always be my marauder head-canon, but this fanfic holds its ground. It’s not complete, and some things bothered me, but otherwise it felt good to live year 1 to 6 with the Marauders!
Oh my god that was so good!! Probably the best Wolfstar fanfic I've ever read, but it was more Marauders Era than Wolfstar, enough that it seemed 10000% canon. There is nothing to prove that it isn't. I love all the little Easter eggs that tied it to the canon books, like where Sirius got the knife that he later gave to Harry, the fact that they're already getting a new DADA teacher each year (because Voldemort has already graduated and set the curse on the position!) and the scene that Harry saw in the Pensieve, and the story behind that scene. Hopefully the author continues this, because it ended in 6th year but it was supposed to continue until their graduation. The ending was pretty sad, no spoilers but it was not a good place to end. All in all, an amazing fanfic but should be continued.
This has to be one of my favorite fanfics of all time. It covers years 1-6 (and will hopefully be continued to cover year 7) for the Marauders through Sirius and Remus’ POV, and it’s truly beautiful. I know I’ll forever consider this fic to be canon, and it has added so much depth and meaning to the series. I cried and laughed and couldn’t stop thinking about this fic when I was forced to put it down. Thank you so much for this breathtaking piece—I hope you continue it, but even unfinished, it’s perfection.
I really really enjoyed this one. I like how both Remus and Sirius switched from vulnerable to strong and back! And the End was also bittersweet, because I see it like a Prequel to the books and we all know what happens then ... but their chemistry was just perfect and also James, Peter and Lilly made me laugh a lot. Great Job! :)
Such beautiful characterisation that you sometimes forget it is a fanfic. The story winds around trauma, friendship and loyalty with ever lurking sad ending we all no is coming as a back drop to a beautiful coming of age story
the characterization was awful (except maybe peter- which is shocking to say the least) i cried at some parts, but other than that it was pretty meh. definitely overhyped.
This was very disappointing. I mean I was expecting something incredible, instead all I got was completely wrong characterization of the marauders, especially of Remus.
Oh my god! (Some spoilers if you haven't read the Harry Potter saga, of course)
It's very common when you speak with Harry Potter fans how many of us love the Marauders era. This fanfiction, this complete MASTERPIECE, is exactly what I imagine their years at Hogwarts being like. Told by the perspective of two of the most beloved Marauders, Remus Lupin and Sirius Black, we get involved into a heartwreaking story full of tears, laughs, friendships and, overall, the magical world. When he was barely four years old, Remus is bitten by the werewolf Fenrir Greyback and his life changes completely: His mother dies during the attack, his father despises him and he is now a victim of constant prejudice by the Wizardry society; Sirius, on the other hand, is the heir to one of the most important Wizardry families, The Blacks, but he is nothing like them. Constantly getting into trouble, spoiling their traditions and seaking for a way of showing the world he is better than what his family has taught him. These two boys meet at Hogwarts, along with fellow classmates and dormates James Potter and Peter Pettigrew. Even when they weren't exactly friends from the beggining, their relationship starts developing while a war rages on. Like I said before, the concept of how their story started before we get into the novels of Harry Potter has always been a constat in fanfics. And, honestly, Moonsign gave us the best version so far. Starting with the fact of giving us a development into their friendship, explaining how it had overcome different hard times, to the point of inclusion of one character that oftenly gets the short end of the stick. Yes, we know that Peter is a complete idiot, who betrait James and Lily and therefore caused their deaths, but in here we get this cute boy who is constantly waiting attention and recognition, who would give his life for his friends but sometimes lets insecurities overcome him, and honestly it makes his betrayel hurt ten times even more. Then we have the look out at some of the most important times of their lifes: The willow incident, the animagus transformation, the mudblood accident between Severus and Lily. Also, being a Wolfstar shiper by heart, this fanfic is my canon about how I imagine their relationship. From the great music recommendations, to the ups and downs they face, made this reading one of the best.

I’m honestly shocked that the ratings of this fic are so high, I mean 4.26 stars, really?? The idea of the plot is pretty good, and I did enjoy parts, but the characterisation of almost all the characters was horrible. The only one I felt was perfect was Peter, I honestly wish more writers wrote him like this. Other than him it felt like they all had the minds of children the entire time (and not in the funny haha prank way). Remus lacked any good qualities, and don’t even get me started on regulus. I know he’s not a mc in the fic, but the letters he sent to Sirius throughout first and second year were riddled with obvious spelling mistakes like folt instead of fault, comming instead of coming, and many other mistakes that anyone above ten should mostly know, not even mentioning the fact that he is a pure blood heir, and he would have a rather extensive and knowledgeable vocabulary by age 8 at most. Also the fic didn’t really show much of them learning magic, not as in them in classes, but as in the pulled pranks all the time in first and second year with spells that they probably wouldn’t have even learnt. I quite like in fics like Atyd, where pranks are planned and researched before happening, but maybe that’s personal preference. I was also a bit sad none of the girls were mentioned at all in most of the years, except Lilly mentioned maybe twice in the first few years. I will admit, I only read to the end of second year, but I couldn’t bring myself to finish it. I did enjoy parts of it though, which is why I am rating a 2 instead of 1. It is possible the book gets marginally better after where I stopped reading, but looking at other low reviews, I doubt that.
*spoiler* I was also a little confused at how Remus pulled the ice skating prank in first year, which one, would have been a very complex spell, and two, he was supposed to be a meek terrified lonely little boy, and I feel as though his traits and actions don’t match up. I know it’s meant to show his inner marauder, but it just seemed weird to me.
I read this for the first time a very long time ago, it was my introduction to the world of the Marauders. When you get introduced to the marauders via other fanfics like All the young dudes or a cadence of part time poets, this story will probably seem very wrong and weird to you and everything about the characters will seem off.
In my case, where this was my introduction to this entire universe of characters and storylines and relationships, this story was (and maybe still is, a bit) magical. There are lines in this that I still remember to this day, like the first couple of sentences or the moment where Remus wishes for a friend under the moonlight in his pajamas and Sirius watches him. It is written in such a way that everything became so vivid to me and I got pulled into their world full of David bowie and T-Rex songs and wonders and the meaning friendship and people can have and school and magic.
And looking back, their characters might not be all that realistic, maybe they care way too much for such young boys or maybe their characters are not really complete in a way, but it worked so well for this story and it is an older work and if you want to read this for the first time, just keep that in mind.
The more I think about it, the more imperfect the story is but I think that makes it all the more special because it is a story of imperfect people in an unfair world and their friendship is there and that is all that matters, really.

Not my favorite Wolfstar fanfic, but hey, it did the job. The plot was solid and the romance had its moments.
Loved the Wolfstar romance, but wow, this fanfic could’ve used a serious trim. I mean The first half was gold, it was fun, chaotic and full of tension. But then, it kind of just kept going. And going. And going.
At 1200 pages, you’d think every word would be essential, but no. Somewhere around the halfway mark, it felt like the author just started adding filler chapters for sport. Did I still love Sirius and Remus? Of course. Their romance was beautifully written, and their dynamic had me hooked.
I absolutely love this story. Its the first one I’ve read where you think this could actually have happened. True to the story points: whomping willow, ware wolf recruiting, and wolfstar im sure if sirius hadn’t died in the original then that would have been a thing. Sirius would be free and Remus could be with him in that house of the last two chapters. Even Niel and Angela i believe would have been real in the story. Loved it.
Not as good as ATYD but alas I did still appreciate the writing. I was gutted it didn’t END PROPERLY but oh well. I was not a fan of how they belittled Remus and made it seem like the wolf was doing him harm…and how he kept his child mind. Very strange to me. But other than that I loved their relationship even if it happened super fast !
Always good to read another lengthy and well developed Wolfstar fic. I must say, the ending where the author left off was very unsettling. I hate knowing exactly what awaits these beautiful kids in the future. It gets real dark.
I read this about 5 years ago (2019) and it was one of the best (if not the best) wolfstar fanfics out there, I know a lot of the characterizations have changed with the time but this fanfic will always have a piece of my heart
this was way too overhyped! i did not enjoy it as much and i guess wolfstar was pretty cute, but remus' characterization felt too wrong for me. he was much too soft than i ever pictured him.
