A wonderful vintage book by theater legend Mary Martin. She writes about her favorite hobby, needlepoint. It's really about the various projects she had completed over the years rather than offering any patterns. Martin came up with some really creative uses of her needlework. Fruit and veggie designs become a detail inserted into her carpet. She needleworked canvas cut into pattern pieces to create a bridal jacket for her daughter's wedding. Working on a small piece of very fine canvas with fine silk thread, she freehanded a closeup design of a pair of holding hands of a couple getting married, to signify the long marriage of she and her husband.
The designs may be dated, but this book is really more for reading and inspiration, and I'm sure readers will marvel at what Martin has accomplished.
