Having grown up in the Virgin Islands and having family in Puerto Rico I can relate to this little novel. There is humor, and some deep thoughtful subjects are treated in a gentle and simply way without being the least bit preachy.

At first I was a tad put-off that Pepe and humans were talking and interacting with each other. But I soon got over it because Pepe is such a charming coqui.
