Pepe Coqui, a tiny tree frog, feels happy and important in his green home in the sugar cane field. However, he has heard stories about a world that has many colors, and he decides he wants to see it. Ready for adventure, he hops to the airport and waits in line for his ticket to the big city.
Having grown up in the Virgin Islands and having family in Puerto Rico I can relate to this little novel. There is humor, and some deep thoughtful subjects are treated in a gentle and simply way without being the least bit preachy.
At first I was a tad put-off that Pepe and humans were talking and interacting with each other. But I soon got over it because Pepe is such a charming coqui.
