I would like to start by saying this book is for the veteran readers.
The ones who see a page of trigger warnings and can’t wait to dive in.
The ones who see a list of kinks that would make the church ladies clutch their pearls, and know that without a doubt, the kinkier the better.
This is for my dark romance bitches.
You know who you are.

This book took me on a WILD ride. It truly held up to its title. Court of Nightmares. There are SEVEN men in this harem. SEVEN. I was so worried as to how I would keep them all straight in my head, but of course I should’ve never doubted Knight. Her writing leaps off the page. The scenes and characters played like a movie in my mind. I truly and generally hate all FMCs with a passion, but Althea was such a like-able FMC. I loved her storyline and character growth, her determination and loving personality. You can’t help but like her. You grow to know each character’s storyline and background. Even with all the spice. And holy hell at the spice, Knight still manages to give us a riveting plot.

The spice rating gets 💦💦💦💦💦 5/5 for me.
I don’t even know how to describe how kinky these scenes are.

I really loved this more than I even thought I would. I haven’t read anything like it. If you’re looking for something hot as hell with fantasy, a plot, dark romance, and off the wall kinks, this is your book.

4 - 4.25 stars!

Was this 98% kinky monster smut? Yes. Yes it was.
Was there a lot of blood? And cum? Oooo yeah.
Did I care? Psh, absolutely not.

Althea and her SEVEN (yes, seven) mates were deliciously dirty and devoted to each other. This was a low angst read with plenty of erotic moments and an entertaining storyline that wrapped up nicely.

Althea dies only to be reborn into something greater and with her Kings by her side, they’ll serve justice and make their world a better place. Together they’ll bring a tide of change.

I was a little concerned that seven men for one feisty woman would make for a clusterf*ck but this book was long enough to develop each male into a distinct masterpiece. I was able to remember who was who and there wasn’t one King I didn’t love. Althea was strong and capable and grew into the Queen her Kings knew she would become. I really enjoyed her character.

My only gripe was, at times, her men got a little beta like. I’m all about my alpha males and a more dominant female character in the bedroom doesn’t do it for me. However, they always came back to their badass nature so I guess I can’t complain too much.

Overall, a super steamy and erotic read that I thoroughly enjoyed.

“You are so beautiful. Look at how we serve you, how we worship you. You have seven kings at your disposal, begging for a taste. You have the serpent of age, the oldest of our kind. You have the master of shadows and darkness buried under you. You have the dream master, who is waiting his turn, and the black dog, who is baying to be inside you. The spider is drunk on your taste, and the underworld guardian is helpless. As for me, you have the ghost desperate for you. How could you ever see yourself as anything but magnificent? You are powerful and so beautiful, armies would die for you, gladly going into battle. This world doesn’t stand a chance.”

I honestly struggled with how to rate this book. I love me some insta-lust, insta-love and a ton of strange monster smut, this was not the problem I had with the story.

The narritive had so much potential, but fell short. I mean, sexy vampire/monsters who judge others for their crimes and that revel i sex and blood, sign me up! Sadly, the story were a few lines amist all the sex, which I enjoyed, but which became very repetetive and to be honest quite boring. Didn't matter that her lovers were monsters with all of which that entails. I found myself SKIPPING the sex scenes, because there was nothing new or interesting and there were just so much of it. It should be said that I have NEVER before felt the need to skip sex scenes, I generelly really like them, but it just got soo monotonouse.

Also, the final showdown happened WAAAAY to soon and it felt like I was reading a ridiciolously long epilouge that just refused to end. When I finally reached what was actually labled as the epilouge I was honestly confused; how is this different from the past 10 chapters or so that I've read?

Even if you just want monster smut I really can't recommend it, because it was such a disappointment. I expected more, and you should too. Read something else!

I've purchased this book since the first time I read this book and it has become my favorite fantasy novel since the first read-through.

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

The book follows Althea, who is a vampyr with a rejected mate. After her mate rejected her, she went off the deep end and began a killing spree of humans that she didn't realize at the time were criminals and the like.

Most vampyrs in this universe can only feed from each other once they become fated mates and the rejection of the mating can lead to extreme pain and madness. It can also lead to the vampyr who was rejected to catch a blood disease that will ultimately kill them. Althea ends up with this disease along with the pain from the rejected mating while she is on her killing spree.

She is captured by the Court of Nightmares and is found to be guilty of countless murders against humans. She is sentenced to death, where she meets the soul of her mother, who gives her a choice to come back to life and serve as a judge in the Court of Nightmares, which is a hidden court that not many people know about until they are brought to the court for judging for crimes against humanity or the vampyr community.

She becomes the fated mate of all 7 other judges in the court and finally has the chance at the life she missed out on after the rejection of her original mating.

–––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––

This has become my favorite fantasy novel since the first time I read it in late 2024. I will probably end up reading it again at some point. I think my favorite aspect of this book is seeing just how strong the FMC becomes as the story moves along.

I still think this book is mostly smut and no plot. Yes, there are some pressures the FMC and MMCs deal with but they're put in place very easily. I think this book is mostly just smut dump, which I don't have a problem with, by any means.

I'm happy with the ending of this book and I think that's pretty evident since I kept the last two paragraphs of this novel highlighted in my Kindle. lmao I got into that habit in 2024 and I still do it sometimes when the last paragraph is powerful enough for me to warrant that.

I ended up crying a lot through the first half of this book, which I normally don't have a problem with when reading a book. I normally don't see smut-dump novels as tear-jerkers but this was a clear exception. Not that I mind, of course. lmao

I am looking forward to getting into book #3 but I hope we get more of Althea and her men in the rest of the series. I was hoping for more than just the glimpse of Althea that we got in book #2. I'm still feeling rather petty about that, actually. Yikes.

Yes, I'd obviously recommend this book, especially if you enjoy smut the way some of us do. If you aren't okay with smut or if you're looking for more of a plot-driven book, you might want to avoid this series. Just a fair warning. lol

Holy moses, the smut in this book is intense! I knew what to expect when I started this book since I've already read Den of Vipers by the same author. I knew there would be a lot of smut since this is technically a reverse harem book but holy shit! I think this book is mostly smut with a cute HEA at the end, which was nice.

The only thing I think I struggled with is the craziness of some of the sex positions. It feels like a lot of it was implausible but that's just me. I was left scratching my head quite a few times but I still enjoyed it all the same.

There was almost no struggle or high stakes, which is what I think I missed in this book. I don't feel like there was anything that kept me biting my nails, so to speak. I will be continuing with the other books in this universe, of course, but I'm hoping there will be more "oomph" in them, for sure.

Where's the Editor? And the plot? Anyone want a spider leg?

Where do I even begin?

First, I cannot recommend anyone read this book, and I'm shocked it has the good reviews it does. The entire thing reads like a bad 90s late night porno, with just as flimsy a plot.

It starts off feeling quite rushed, yet simultaneously boring as hell, however I chalked that up to wanting to get into the main story, and it would get better.

Boy, was I wrong.

Pacing: terrible.

Dialogue: cringeworthy.

Spicy scenes: on every other page, and disgustingly repetitive. (If I never read the phrase "scream my release" again, it'll be all too soon. I eventually started only vaguely skimming these scenes.) And a disappointingly long wait (given their supposed previous dynamic of being together) for the smallest scrap of male-on-male action. Missed opportunity to have had something other than the overdone take-a-number-at-the-DMV style group scenes.

Plot: might as well not have had one at all. Popped up now and then, just to "release" itself into the ether within a few paragraphs.

The 8 MCs constant "mine, mine" became so ubiquitous, my brain started hearing it like the seagulls in Finding Nemo.

A thesaurus would be a great tool to have been used in writing this book. Everything was So. Freaking. Repetitive.

MMC's all started to blend together, especially once they all devolved into simply acting like obnoxious teenage boys. Personalities and behaviors were a bit inconsistent, getting worse as this book dragged on. I quit even trying to keep track of who's doing what by the end.

And the broken off spider leg dildo? Dear gods, I wish I could unread that.

Then the final showdown comes around. It was more disappointing than the dialogue. Rushed and underwhelming.

Mom & dad storyline? Why? It wasn't actually important, and was mostly a smattering of awkward monologues.

I could go on, but then *I'd* be the repetitive one.

I did, however, thoroughly enjoy roasting this book to my husband. He was rooting for the dragon to just eat them all. I can't blame him.

Final thoughts: this could have been 400 pages shorter, and would probably have been better for it. Oh, and the last 11 chapters and epilogue, completely unnecessary. I only read the entirety of this because I cannot stand to DNF a book, and it's for a book club.

While I enjoy the smutty smut, I like a balance of good story with it. It’s bad when you are skimming and skipping the excessive amount of sex to get to the story.

Add in that every time someone speaks they purrrr out their words and then wink. No one. Absolutely no one anywhere ever winks that damned much.

DNF at 40%

I just can’t, y’all. This was so silly and over the top and I can’t take anything about this seriously.

When I got to the scene where they’re picking out her clothes for her and fighting/fucking over who gets to dress her, all my remaining common sense just peaced out ✌🏻🤣

This book is definitely the female gaze version of some sort of male adoration fantasy and umm…that is not my kink 😂 Giving it two stars because there were a few genuinely hot/interesting moments…but this was all I could take. YMMV 🙃

Pure smut, no plot. Normally, I’m not necessarily opposed to those books, especially if I know what I’m getting before I go in. And I LOVE a good why choose. I love a bad why choose. But 7(!) love interests was too much for me. Everything blended together and was the same. Usually the lack of plot is made up for with the smut but there was too much (I know, right?!). I was skimming the last 1/2- 3/4 of the book and every other page was a scene with a diff guy(s) and it all felt the same. If I’m not getting plot/story and the smut isn’t enough to keep reading…

Court of Nightmares

🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶 spice
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Plot

So K. A. Knight does it yet again! But she does it with 7 males and 1 female.

I'm a tad sad that we didn't get more M/M (who knew I liked that🤷🏾‍♀️?). But what we did get played into my dreams later that night🙊.

Every one of the judges had a need and met a need. I loved how no one was neglected to the sidelines or forgotten about. I swear when it comes to spicy novels, no one, and I mean no one, does it like K. A. Knight. I've read lots of novels where their spice makes me want to vomit and the plot takes a sideline to the smut. Knight's books always tell a story. They just tell it with smut too.

There is vengeance, redemption and generally putting people back into their lanes in this book. So a little of everything! I was able to receive an advanced copy and am I glad for it. I cannot recommend a better spicy author! Do I recommend this book though? I absolutely do!

“There is one thing you need to know about heartbreak- it will make a monster out of you if you let it”

We listen and we don’t judge… This book was insane. Make sure you check the trigger warnings before you read this. This was dark and the spice was crazy, I don’t even know how you could even dream up these scenarios. Overall, I loved the characters and I’m a sucker for vampire books. The characters are the only reason that this got 4 stars for me because I liked how unique each character was and how well they worked together.

🩸Reverse Harem

Sadly I am DNF on this one.
It started out really strong for me, I loved the FMC.
I love me some 🌶️,

But there’s no real plot or story for me to cling to here. So at 38% I’m calling it quits.

It wouldn’t be a K.A Knight book if the characters weren’t screaming, howling, and crying their release.
It also wouldn’t be a K.A Knight book if the word cream didn’t make its way into every sex scene.

So much happened, yet nothing happened?

Now, my main issue is that there were so many plot and character inconsistencies!! I get that it’s a big cast and A LOT is happening, but the fact that just SO MANY big and small things change just randomly… it feels like the author has just forgotten what they wrote previously, so they’re making it up as they go.
The BIGGEST inconsistency is that at the very start, we’re told vampyrs change at the age of 16. But when we’re in Reve’s pov, he went through his change at the age of 18…
Which is it?
There’s so many more but I’d literally be writing a 10+ page essay if I were to mention all of them.

Another thing… there were 7 men in her harem. I am all for the more the merrier. BUT. Can they all please have an actual personality?

This book also tried so hard with the plot, but there were so many hypocrisies. I found it hard to wrap my head around the politics but there’s also gods, but wait, they don’t have to follow the normal rules, BUT WAIT, they do have to follow the rules!?!? It goes back and forth between so many different things that I genuinely have absolute no idea what happened anymore.

The switch in language also took me out of the story. We bounced between modern language, but also royal/formal language? It was so odd because there wasn’t a pattern with the switches either.
Example: The word ‘pants’ were used but so was the word ‘breeches’ (it was also spelt breaches in the book…)

The fmc read like a ‘baddie’ from a Wattpad fanfic. ‘Chosen One’ trope that tried so fucking hard. She’s a nightmare. She’s a goddess. She has the powers of a God. She has 7 mates. She’s otherworldly. She’s this, that, literally fucking everything.

For the sake of your own sanity, please save yourself the time and stay away from this with a ten foot pole. Unless you’re in it just for the monster smut and don’t care about anything else, then go for it.

"Broken is beautiful. Real. Just like we are, working in the shadows. Nightmares."

A tale of second chances, forgiveness and healing, Court of Nightmares is a riveting dark fantasy novel with why choose flavors and all manner of monsters. You think you can fully prepare yourself diving into a Knight novel, but it’s impossible to envision the things that lurk in the deepest, darkest corners of her mind. You want spice, sass and sentiment? You’ll get it in spades.

The vampire world is one of shadows, politics and pain, and the judges of the Court of Nightmares are tasked with ridding their kind of the corruption that has taken root in their species. What began as careful selection of individuals quickly turns into a crusade to bring the entire race back to its former glory – all triggered with the arrival of Althea, the first queen amongst the ranks of the blood kings.

In addition to crafting Althea, an incredibly strong female lead with unwavering constitution, Knight has done an incredible job giving each of the MMCs their own unique voice. When your cast is packed with seven – yes, seven – leading men, this can definitely be a difficult task, but she does so flawlessly. Each from a specific time period, each with their own heartbreaking history, each with their own desires.

My personal favorite part of this novel is the healing each individual does over time with the help of Althea. Each character has a past filled with some form of pain and torment, and has committed atrocious crimes against their own kind and beyond, but they are worthy of forgiveness. They are worthy of happiness. They are worthy of love. And Althea is the one to help them realize this.

If you’re in the market for monster smut, then you need only look to K.A. Knight to satisfy your cravings. Court of Nightmares is filled, and I mean FILLED to the brim with…all manner of bodily fluids. We’re not talking just a few spicy scenes here and there, we’re talking about filthy vampire sex constantly. Let’s just say Knight’s imagination soars, and I was there for it.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and I’m excited to see where Knight takes this series next.

This book was so much fun and extremely addicting. It's basically 70% smut and 30% plot, but somehow it works. The characters are so likeable and I loved the found family aspect of this book. I went into this with 0 expectations. I only wanted to have a good time and that's what I had. It was nice to read about vampires again. It had been a while so I was starting to miss them. So glad I took a chance and read thus!

Well this book was some kinda kinky business 😈.

I absolutely loved the world building. The whole judges storyline was exceptionally done and so unique. The harem was too big though. 7 different guys was too much to juggle in my head. Trying to keep them apart in my head slowed the flow of the story for me.

I will definitely read more books in this world.

FMC - Althea: 4 🌟
ALL MMCs: 5 🌟
SPICE: 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 🌶 × 100

LIKES: The book started off strong, in my opinion. I felt so bad for Althea's bond being rejected, and I was so thrilled to see what her second chance at life was going to be like, and damn did she luck out getting not 2, not 4, but 7 vampire kinds to worship her lol

I really love all of the MMCs, though I think Reve might be my favorite :p but every single one of them has an interesting yet traumatic history that led them to where they are, trying to right the wrongs in the world, and Althea gets to be a part of that. And they all keep each other so well-grounded, which is beautiful

DISLIKES: By about the halfway mark, I started to feel like the spice in the book was becoming a bit much. Not the spice itself, per se, since nothing really shocks me anymore 😆 But the spice to plot ratio was drastically shifting in the wrong direction, to the point where I was totally losing track of what the plot was anymore, because nearly every single chapter ended with them being covered in "blood and c*m" :/

I also have an issue where, especially in fantasy novels, the FMC is CONSTANTLY told she's beautiful and amazing and badass, as if it's a desperate need for the character's validation. It's highly encouraged for the MMC(s) to give compliments and show their devotion, but at some point they lose their meaning when they're said too much. If she's a badass FMC, then be a badass FMC, do badass stuff! Readers shouldn't just be told how amazing she is and then she ends up being kinda mid as far as magic abilities or combat abilities go...

Soooooooo while I MIGHT -emphasis on might- re-read it again at some point in the distant future, it's not because of the story itself. It will be because I'm in a purely filthy smutty mood, and because the MMCs were the only thing that make the book worth a re-read
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

Smutty as hell, and I loved that.
But this wasn’t my favorite from this author.

It was cool, but it was missing something. I don’t know. Maybe it was that there wasn’t any push and pull with any of the relationships?
It was pretty insta-love, which personally I’m a fan of, but I think because the subplot was a little less dramatic than I was thinking it would be, I was hoping for a little more drama from the relationship side of things?

Either way, it was still really enjoyable.
The smut was hot, monstrous at times, and involved a lot of blood play. I mean, hello? They’re ‘vampyrs’. Duh. 😂
There was also a lot of power exchange, in both directions (the men took control, but she also took control quite a bit, which sometimes led to the men taking back control. Lol it was a loop at times)
Also. Giant spider warning….some freaky deaky shit was done with that spider that I was totally not expecting to find so hot…not gonna lie, I was totally judging Myself at times for that🫢🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Not much else to say about it.
It was packed full of smut.
The setting and magics were really cool.
The characters all got ‘air time’ in what seemed like a good balance. And I liked each of them for different reasons.
The creatures were really cool.

It was a fun time.
Just not my favorite from Miss Knight

KA Knight never disappoints with her dark & bloody RH reads. This time the MCs are vampires so as you can imagine when I say it's bloody, I mean that VERY literally. The book is really long and drawn out but considering the heroine gets herself 7 mates, the extra page time is necessary. Though I will say at times the sex felt never ending, I understand she has seven men to satisfy but it got to be exhausting. It's a bloody vampire orgy all day every day!!
After being rejected by her vampire mate heroine Althea goes off on the deep end and after some time she is begging for death. Fate however decides she's not done on this earth and so she is resurrected and along with 7 others they are to cleanse the earth of those who are irredeemable. A rather daunting task but as she gains immortality she now can live out time with her mates as they carry on their mission. Decent read for the weekend!

This author is very hit and miss with me and unfortunately, I'm not loving this. The beginning was excellent and I had high hopes but once Althea enters the Court of Nightmares it just turned into a one big sextfest and everyone's instantly obsessed with her perfect presence. It's all so unangsty and instalust and I just can't. I'm disappointed as the first bit was so promising. If this were shorter I'd maybe try to push through but it's over 500 pages and I haven't got the will to continue on. Oh and did I mention there are seven MMCs in this particular harem that's a whole lot. Unfortunately, I'm throwing in the towel now as I'm mainly just bored and uninvested.

Overall I like this book but like Den Of Vipers I found myself skipping spicy scenes they honestly seem repetitive and forced at times, that’s why I gave it 3 stars (in the beginning it was fine but after awhile it just got boring). Overall the story I loved, just wished it would have held my interest more.

Why is it not possible to rate a book 0 stars? This book made me regret reading as a hobby, which deserves 0 stars.
I can’t believe I read this shit.. it’s embarrassing honestly. I can’t believe someone really wrote this and signed their name claiming it. I can’t believe a publisher would pick this shit up.. what are the standards like these days?
This whole book was one big mistake.. I genuinely don’t think it can get any worse. The struuuugggllleee 😩 to get through 74 chapters was like being dragged up a mountain covered in shards of glass.
Unfortunately I have to keep it PG and refrain from too much detail, but I am 1000% judging anyone who gave this book 5 stars because this is not “fantasy”.. atleast not that kind of fantasy.
I can safely say I will never touch another KA Knight book. I gave her 2 chances and both were steamy piles of dog shit. So bon voyage Ms. Knight, it was *a time* getting to know your writing. I hope you fulfill that un-itched scratch and best of luck with your day job because writing isn’t your strong suit. 🫡
This book should be burned. It deserves no less.

If you’re reading for “why choose” smut then look no further! Need vampire blood play? Here you go!

Dialogue? Characterization? A compelling plot?

No.

Nope.

Not here.

There were some really fantastic elements with much potential here but they just weren’t developed. The smut took over and the pacing was painfully slow at times, but such is the nature of writing a super spicy story that has spice in high quantities. It slows the pacing. So once the novelty of the smut wears off, it’s just repetitive.

Plus, 7 lovers was far too many to keep track of … they started to blend together despite each having unique details that should’ve helped. But 7 is just far too many.

Hardcore dnf @ 7%. Literally fucking can’t. This is the worse thing I’ve read in my life and I couldn’t even get very far because it sucks so bad. God awful pacing within the first FIVE chapters, she’s already not like the other girls, we have a bullshit lazy ass rejected mate story from 2014 wattpad. The writing is choppy and stilted and this lady cannot figure out what fucking TENSE she wants it to be in. I kid you not the active and passive tenses are all over the fucking place! No. Just NO!

Dear readers, K.A. Knight must be stopped. Why oh why did I pick this up, when I hated Den of Vipers so thoroughly? Why do I do these things to myself? The plot is nowhere to be found, the writing is god-awful, the characters alternate between cringe are boring as hell, and the word cream is used a truly diabolical amount. Bonus awfulness: their vampire fangs hang down over their bottom lips like some kind of sexy walrus. Zero stars.
