Following a heartbreaking loss, Brynn Gilbert leaves behind death and danger. Now, she focuses on creating and sharing beauty and peace through gardening and landscaping. But a deadly plan is in the works in Maple Valley, and Brynn is standing in the way. When she becomes a target, one man appoints himself as her protector.
Caleb Montgomery, Fortress Security operative and Morgan County deputy, answers a late-night emergency call and prevents a kidnapping. To his shock, the victim is the woman he's falling for. Caleb races to identify the man targeting Brynn. But when he falls into a deadly trap, only Brynn can save him.
Y'all. I'm not going to lie. I'm a bit disappointed after finishing this book. I see all these 5 star ratings and wish I could add one more to them, but I just can't. This is going to be a hard review to write because this book had a lot of potential.
However, after talking to one of my bookish friends, she nailed it right on the head. It just seems like a lot of copying and pasting from past books. The phrases are the same, the food is the same, they all have the same "fears" in the relationships (which are always unfounded if the MC's would just open their eyes), even the bad cop, bad cop routine with zero investigation is repeated (and is definitely getting ridiculous). Add to that the grammatical errors, unnecessary or missed information, and inconsistencies throughout the book and you can see why I'm disappointed. The alpha reader(s)/beta reader(s)/editor(s)/proofreader(s) are not doing a very good job of helping Ms. Deel's books be the best that they can be.
With all that being said, I really did like Brynn and Caleb's story. These two quickly stole my heart with all their swoony kisses and sweet moments. I loved that Brynn was independent, but actually listened to Caleb and others when they were trying to keep her safe. She didn't push back and demand to be included in whatever dangerous situation they were going into. I may or may not have been shocked when that happened. She could be stubborn, but was smart when it mattered most.
I will still continue to read Ms. Deel's books because there are SO many of them that I love and reread ALL the time. I'm holding out hope that her future books will be added to the list of all the ones of hers that I love.
And as with all the brothers he falls hard and fast for a woman who is being hunted, but is it his past or hers that is on the hunt? A great final book for Maple Valley and M Team, we have so many twists, turns and false leads, as they are targeted, framed, kidnapped, drugged, shot at and investigated...but never doubt Fortress will come out on top and Caleb will claim his woman, we also get the start of a bonus second romance....could this be the start of a new spinoff in the Fortress World with Cam as team leader? As always an amazing read on Kindle Unlimited.
Appreciate another great story from Rebecca Deel. Morgan County Deputy Caleb Montgomery and Garden Center Owner and Landscaper Brynn Gilbert knew about each other but hadn’t quite got around to dating yet. It takes Brynn to almost be kidnapped for Caleb and Brynn to have time to talk to each other. A few good twists and turns as the story progresses.
The plus factor for me is having scenes from the people at PSI and Fortress Security. Josh Cahill, still as fierce as ever. Alex Morgan and Josh training up more bodyguards and black ops members. Rio Kincaid still looking after people and watching how they are moving when they are hurt. Nate feeding the staff and trainees at PSI. Brings back the memories of the previous stories and situations about Fortress Security and Otter Creek.
Awesome conclusion to this great series. Again, ignore the shirtless guy on the cover. This is not a Christian book, but it is clean - no curse words or sex scenes.
This series was different than her other two: It is about 5 brothers, but is connected to the other series, so some of those characters make appearances in this series. I am guessing that this series is done, since there are 5 brothers and this was the 5th book.
I have read all of her books and all I can say is they get better and better. Action and suspense also no cliffhangers. But still coming back for more. Can't wait for Jesse's book the suspense will definitely be worth the wait. If I can wait that long lol. Love the book thanks
Wow! I love this book so much. As always with Rebecca Deel's books, it starts with action that pulls you right into the story and doesn't let go. The characters are wonderful and the romance is clean and very enjoyable. The suspense and action are great! Wonderful book!
This book gripped from the very beginning. Very suspenseful with a great romantic story intertwined throughout. Love that we get to visit the brothers and their wives. Love Mrs. Grady….we all could use her on our life😍. Wanted the story to just keep going!!!!
I have read every book Rebecca Deel has written more than once and every time a new one comes out its better than the last one. I try to savior them but get so caught up that I can't put them down.
A very intense and mysterious conspiracy that will keep the reader riveted as the story unfolds. This mystery will keep a reader guessing until the very end.
Rebecca Deel is one of my favorite authors and when she releases a new book, I drop everything! I can count on her to grab my attention right away and as always I can't put my Kindle down.
I enjoyed allot the Maple Valley books they were very good ! They kept you reading, until the very end . Thank you from a avid reader . Please kept the books coming.
MS deel delivered another riveting story. I am kinda sad that this is the last brother to find his hea . I hope will get updates on them on future books.
Caleb and Brynn's story was great! A few twists and it was fun to read. :) I know I will reread many times and it just makes me ready for the next one!!
This book was action packed from the very first page. I liked the story. The romance was okay too though it felt a bit rushed. Other than that, it was a great story.
im not a massive fan of Rebecca Deel - the characters are very formulaic and simplistic. i enjoyed this story but unlikely to read it again or many more from her
I really wanted to like this but it seemed more insta-love than usual. And the characters didn’t really differentiate from each other, it seemed more copy-paste than usual which made me sad. I love all her series.
You always know what to expect with a book by this author. Moments of intense suspense, action, danger, sweet kisses, lots of references to past characters, and a fast-paced romance. I enjoyed this one, but also know going into it that there will be repetitive themes and phrases from previous books, as well as plot and character inconsistencies, but overall still a good read and a fun escape.
What did I dislike. I missed the other teams and how they work together. As always I enjoyed the story and couldn't put it down.. The problem is having to wait for the next book. Thank you for all the effort you put into your stories.
