A deeply moving book about love, war, family and all the intricacies that play out in a person's mind. Possibly Spencer's mentality changed after he fought in war, his feelings toward Carol (his wife, went pretty dark, pretty quickly). Spencer (maybe not known during this time) could have PTSD. At some point, I said to myself, 'something dark is going to happen to Carol.'
