Zane's Sex Chronicles

The Sex Chronicles: Shattering the Myth

Rate this book

From a bold and captivating voice comes a collection of stories that probes women's darkest passions and pushes the boundaries of erotic fiction. Sometimes romantic, sometimes raw, Zane appeals to men and women alike with these tales of intoxicating sensuality.

THE Sex CHRONICLES

SHATTERING THE MYTH

Anyone who thinks that men are by nature more sexual than women or that African-American women are especially inhibited hasn't read Zane. Here, she presents an erotic read in three parts: Wild, Wilder, and Off Da Damn Hook. With a unique ability to tell it like it is -- and also to tell it like it could be in your wildest dreams -- Zane crafts stories about everyone from the sensual housewife who wants her husband to experiment more to a secret underground sorority of women that organizes some rather unconventional social events. By turns tender and outrageous, The Sex Chronicles is a pleasure from beginning to end.

The Sex Chronicles...where do I begin? It's short stories put together by Zane that have people and their sexual escapades. This book has everything. Some things are shocking...and some things are just flat out crazy but either way this book grabs your attention from the first page.

I liked the book although some books like Triple Crown they have more than just sex like the have the thug drug dealer who is in a situation. After a while you already know what's going to happen so it's like why read the rest? But once you start reading you'll know there's more to it...lolz

Waste of time and money! I had to buy this for class, i can't believe shit like this can actually get published. And it's not like Zane is a bad writer, i have read two other books by her that were fairly good and enjoyable. This is just a compilation of contrived sex scenes and it borded me. Bad storytelling, punctuating, everything!

The book did not have the creativity that makes a writer a writer, that something special that seperates a writer worth being published from anybody waving a pen. All the stories in this book that i read could have been writen by a high school amateur writing class. I know it is all about sex but, really, the characters did not have to be so depthless, and the sex did not have to be so cheap.

Seriously though, if you like this book and are seeking a cheap copy i will gladly sell it for $5. I take good care of all my books so it is basically new. not even creased, as i never opened it again after my class was over.

I was excited when I saw this book on the shelf, but after reading a few stories I was disappointed.
I disagree with the reviewers who called it "nasty" in a bad way. Remember these are erotic stories, and what is nasty in that area is very personal and a question of what you think about sex and how open minded-you are. In my personal opinion it was tasteful.

After a while you get bored, it's like watching a porno and after the first sex scene or orgasm, you've had enough! I don't think I've finished this book and i bought it when it came out! I'm just glad that she made Nervous into a full length book.

This is a collection of short stories of the erotica nature, all told from the woman’s perspective. These are the fantasies of ladies and by and large have some romantic element and all focus on the woman’s pleasure. Not to say the men involved aren’t having a good time. The collection starts off pretty tame, then gets a little wild, and by the end the stories are, for most women, full-blown crazy, steamy fantasy. Most of the stories feature couples, though a few feature more than 2 participants. A few stories are parties or weekend-long events that have many people enjoying exploring their sexuality.

Most of these stories were fairly short, so they were perfect for folding laundry together with my man. Of course, I started the book on my own, but then noticed he was listening in here and there. So, I started making it a habit for folding the laundry. It’s amazing how much assistance I got with this menial chore while this book was on in the background ;) . Many of the tales were sweet, but none stinted on the details. I loved that each and every one of them was focused on the woman’s pleasure and told from her point of view. While not every fantasy was for me, there was plenty there for my man and I to ‘discuss’ later.

I have a little confession to make: I didn’t realize this collection was not only written from women’s point of views, but from African-American women’s point of views. Honestly, I didn’t notice in particular until I started looking up the author in preparation for this review. I think women from any cultural background could find something to enjoy in this book. This is also my first exposure to Zane and her works, though I doubt it will be my last. Apparently, this book is also the basis for the same titled series on Cinemax. I may have search for that…..and perhaps my man could help with the vacuuming in the living room while it is on? ;)

It was great to see that the featured women came from several walks of life: business woman, scientist, gym janitor, etc. If I have any complaints, it is a minor one: Sometimes the little pet names the lovers bestowed upon one another were the same story after story, which occasionally made it difficult to keep the stories distinct, the characters separate, in my mind. But, let’s be honest, I wasn’t listening to this book for the individual characters.

I got alot of weierd looks when I was reading this one. No matter if it was at the park, on the train, food courts, where ever, for some reason people would find me and stare at me from the corner of their eye as if thinking, "Why are you reading that?" Maybe because I am neither African-American or female. This is kinda like fast food literature, but leaves you with a better feeling. Quick, hot, and makes you feel just a wee bit guilty, the only thing missing is the free toy.

Was just as amazing as the Original Sex Chronicles! However, This book contains at least 5-7 stories from the Original Sex Chronicles. So I was a little disappointed but the stories were all good as always. I would recommend any Zane fan to read this anthology because it's great :)

Unfornetely I only read half of this book, because I left it in class, came back it was gone lol:)
But, from what I had read so far was very interesting and good, but hey! it's Zane and I love all her books so I'm not surprised that this one was great also. Although, my book came up missing I will be back at the stores or my local library picking me up a couple more by her!

This was so much more explicit than what I usually read. Honestly, this is not my kind of book at all. I don't consider myself a prude but honestly, this book was outside my comfort zone. I will give that some of the stories despite the explicit sexual detail were sweet and I’m not into what is essentially just porn. Also, there were some stories that were just about justifying their infidelity and just nope.

Listened to Zane's Sex Chronicles (Zane's Sex Chronicles) by Zane
New York Times bestselling author Zane presents a tantalizing short story collection, Zane's Sex Chronicles, which is now the basis of the Cinemax series Zane's Sex Chronicles -- the first urban erotic series on television. The series calls for a sexual revolution and brings forth our favorite characters -- Patience James aka Zane, Maricruz, Lyric, Eboni, and Ana Marie -- as a force to be reckoned with as they balance common day-to-day issues, a slew of hot sex, and the fine men in the big city. Learn more about their backgrounds in this special tie-in edition. Like the series, Zane's Sex Chronicles is about empowerment and liberation -- both in and out of the bedroom. Pleasurable from beginning to end, this anthology brings together fifteen hunger-inducing stories from the original bestselling editions of The Sex Chronicles: Shattering the Myth and Gettin' Buck Wild: Sex Chronicles II. Zane's Sex Chronicles weaves together a compilation of bold characters and provocative stories of passion and intoxicating eroticism to seduce both men and women. This was a fun read it is a lot provocative so be ready if you listin or read it.. I give this book 5 stars and a 10. A nasty read!!!

Well this book just sucks and I love erotic stories but this book has no meaning what so ever...There's no ......STORY!!.... Literally every chapter is just a different short story sex scene ..Don't get me wrong some of the scenes were fairly well 0_0 but never in my life would I think that I would get tired of reading a sex book ...like this book is literally a sex book and its meaningless. I've read some of Zane's other books and they were good books with a good story and then sex...With that being said the book sucks and I would only recommend this book to people who are super horny and don't have the Internet at home to just watch some porn.....

I'll be honest; I couldn't finish this book or any of the others that she's written. Too much explicit sex for me. I'm well over 30 but I still couldn't shake the feeling that my momma or one of the old nuns from grammar school was gonna come up behind me and smack me for reading what they'd probably call "smut." LOL I am not taking anything away from Zane, however. She seems to be a very good writer with a huge fan base. I appreciate her talent, unbridled imagination, boldness to think and write outside the box that some may think she should be in, and success...even though I can't read her books. :-)

not that i get into erotic literature but from what i understand anais nin is like the pinnacle of beautiful artistic erotic literature. not that ive read anais nin. but this shit is just trash what i imagine to be on the opposite end of the spectrum from anais nin. like its gratuitous and graphic for no reason. no story no plot. my friend put me up to this shit i also feel it was a waste of time.

This falls into my rarely used category of "couldn't finish it". I'm embarrassed that I bought it for my friend Kim, but saw these rave reviews about what a groundbreaking book it was. And maybe the existence of this sort of book from an African-American author IS groundbreaking, but it was just NOT a good book. It was like a bad (or good, take your pick) "story" in Playboy.

This book reminds me of Erotique Noir and Dark Eros, except there's no poetry. It's a collection of short erotic stories. It moves from one scenario to the next; 305 pages of heat. It is not meant for women who have inhibitions (you know the one's; unwillingless to explore and try new things). Kudos to my girls for the recommendation and kudos to Zane for keeping it real.

If you like your erotica with a plot, this is not the book for you.
If you like your erotica with character development, this is not the book for you.
If you like your erotica with romance, this is not the book for you.
If you think foreplay is a golf term, this book is for you.
Short 4-5 pages of slam bam sex.
Not what I thought it would be.

It took me almost the whole month of May to finish this book. Although some of the stories were good, this book just didn't hold my attention. I didn't know that it was a collection of short erotic stories and was disappointed because if I'm going to read erotica, I'd like it to have a plot and a story line and not just be pure porn. The book wasn't bad, it just wasn't what I was expecting.

Not sure how I feel about this. There were some stories I liked better than others, and a couple I skipped. The author used different writing styles, and there was one in particular that didn't flow well for me and took some time getting used to. The stories were interesting to say the least. Not sure if its my type of thing. I'll try one of Zane's novels next and see how that goes.
