There's no going back once love is involved... Freya Pfeiffer has a new book to promote, a new streaming show, and many adoring fans. This is because they love dogs just as much a Freya does. Since becoming an animal behaviorist, the young woman with flowing fair hair has made it her life's work to help people understand what makes a dog's mind tick. Unfortunately, Freya's area of expertise doesn't translate into her private life! She's single and still looking for that one perfect man. Could he be Sir Rory White? The handsome Baron of Overtoun Castle asks Freya out on a date. Still, it’s not just because he is attracted to the pretty presenter - he wants her to visit his Scottish Gothic castle and advise him on what to do about the mystery of Overtoun Bridge. Why do dogs try to jump over the bridge parapets? Once she arrives at the castle, Freya is convinced that her fate lies buried between the pages of an ancestral grimoire. And despite Sir Rory's warnings, she reads the words of a magical curse aloud and then walks outside when the thick Scottish mists roll over the bridge and a piercing whistle is heard... 1706, MacKinney Castle. High up in the rugged Cairngorm mountains, where eagles and hawks circle slowly in the sky and those same ominous mists float over the hard granite rocks, Laird Cúlan MacKinney watches the gray clouds drift by. Racked with guilt for what happened in the past, the Highlander sees no hope for his clan in the future. Is he doomed to wander forever with no woman brave enough to be with him? Seeing the shape of a dog slip through the thick fog, the lonely laird whistles. The latest Scottish Historical Time Travel romance book by Kalani Madden is full of magic, mystery, and suspense, with a touch of steam and a lot of romance! Enjoy = )
Freya is quite vocal and speaks before thinking. This can get her in trouble and cause hurt feelings for those on the receiving end. The storytelling is a bit stilted. Continuance issues (Rory not wearing a tie during dinner and all of a sudden wearing one when they proceed to the bedroom; Freya putting on outdoor boots then stumbling in "high heels" a little while later) don't help the situation. The story has adventures, mystery, magic and love.
Dogs are the focal point of the story. Why do they go to this bridge to jump off? Some die and some disappear. Freya needs to find out why. Reading the grimoire from a witch, Freya is transported back in time. Culan readily accepts that she is from the future which is unusual for that time period. Freya feels more comfortable in that time period than in the present time period as she has knowledge regarding the time period where she was transported back in time.
The different time periods are reflected well in the descriptions of land, people, beliefs, and love, and how people lived and loved during these times. In the olden days, it didn't take long to know you were in love whereas today, it can take forever to decide to spend your life with someone.

I haven't read a historical romance in a while, and thought I would try this as I love the highlands and the synopsis looked interesting. I was disappointed by the FMC, she is not overly likeable and comes across as one track minded and a little self absorbed. Her only interests and observations appear to be about dating/romance, so she didn't feel very relatable. I liked the overall plot, and thought that it had potential. Especially with the added mystery and witchcraft thrown in too. There were some discrepancies throughout that were not picked up on (e.g. is she wearing heels or boots as it changes from one moment to the next). I am from the UK, and grew up in London so the references made throughout the novel were not necessarily correct and felt overly exaggerated. I think more research should have been done before basing the book on a FMC from London, and the setting being in Scotland.

The Bridge Through Time was different from other time-travel books I've read in the past.
Well written by Kalani Madden, the plot has a here and now mixed with a then and there flow. The author handled it well, I just had to get in sync with the the plots rhythm.
I liked the heroes (yes there are two heroes--one in the present and one in the past) and the supporting players, but it took most of the book for me to warm to Freya. I feel she just needed to mature to her thirty years, and stop acting like a teenager.
The historical and geographical parts helped me visualize the times and surroundings. It also spotlighted just how difficult a choice Freya would end up facing.
Content 411: This book contains very few mild swear words. It also features passionate kissing and implied (not described) sex.

Well written, full of action, adventure, love, magick, witches, suspense and time travel. This author has written a fabulous spell binding story for everyone's enjoyment. Does have a few oops but does not interfere with reading the book. Has a great storyline/plot which starts in the future but is drawn back to the past. It all revolves around the bridge and the dogs. Freya is a person who handles dogs , is invited to the castle, which has lots of mystery and people. She meets Rory, a Baron of the castle who hires her to figure out the issues of the bridge and the dogs. She is given a book of magic- a grimorie and is during the reading, she is transported back in time. Culan finds her and the heat between them starts. Lots of history of that time is included in this book. Would have enjoyed more of a ending but can wait for the next book. Curl up with your favorite drink and enjoy. Would recommend to everyone.

Never managing to find a boyfriend, Freya Pfeiffer insists on being called Miss, not Ms. She wants men to know she’s single. Of course, she’s also managed to chase every boyfriend she’s had away because of her bad temper. Now in Scotland promoting her new book in animal behaviour, Freya gets invited to a castle to see if she can give the resident baron any advice on why dogs jump off a bridge—many times, to their deaths. After reciting a spell from a grimoire, Freya ends up back in time. This is a story of greed, betrayal and love. I have to admit, Freya is not my favorite heroine as she seemed to be pretty shallow, right down to have anger management issues. The plot moves along at a good pace and there’s plenty of action.

This was a solid 2 1/2 stars for me. I had a hard time with the main character. She seemed immature for her age, and didn’t seem to have any self-control whether it was with an explosive attitude or sex life. At first the book seemed to be interesting with time travel and a mystery concerning the bridge, but really it’s just about how this woman gets laid. There’s not even any real romance. I will say, it was nice that the author didn’t get graphic. Also, once I finally got to the climax there wasn’t really even a climax. All the answers were there and done within 1-2 pages. Overall the editing was good. The idea of the story had great potential, but it just wasn’t for me. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This story touches two of my favorite genres – Time travel and the supernatural. Freya, a dog behavioral specialist, is transported back in time in Scotland when she reads a grimoire. She meets Culan in the mists where he saves her life, as the bridge she crossed doesn’t exist. Culan is a laird that was double cursed by his uncle and his mother. I love the way Freya and Culan find themselves attracted to each other in more ways than they believed they could be. Freya didn’t realize that she was what Culan needed. I loved the ending where Belial makes his final appearance to prove his loyalty to Culan. A true dog lover’s story
What could have been a good story is hampered by logical flaws that keep it from reaching its full potential.
Never mind that someone in the 21st century with TV deals and a popular social media channel could simply disappear for good with no thought to consequences, nor that the fact the sixth (or was it seventh) Laird now has children, changing the line of succession and the circumstances of the 21st century. Amusing how Freya has to be helped up to a bedchamber because of a sprained ankle, but can stand on a bucket to see out the window. Amusing to see her dialect change in the space of a few days.
Still, it's mindless fun, though it did not in any way make me yearn for the next in the series.
The Bridge Through Time begins with a prologue when we get a glimpse of an 18th century, young, Scottish laird, being pursued by a greedy and unscrupulous uncle who wishes him dead.
Fast forward to the 21st century and we meet Freya Pfieffer, a dog owner trainer, author, public speaker and a strong advocate for animal safety and welfare.
She is invited to Scotland to investigate a mystery - dogs are seemingly unable to resist throwing themselves off Overtoun bridge and the current owner of the land, Baron Rory White, is keen to stop this from happening.
Can Freya identify the cause, stop the dogs from falling to their deaths? You will need to read the book to find out as I don’t do spoilers.
This is the first book in a series, due to be published soon. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy and confirm that this is my genuine review.
An interesting story with a twist. I enjoyed the suspense at the beginning of the book and how it creates a mystery in current times. I don’t love the main character in the beginning, but she grows on you a bit in the end. I like time travel novels and was wishing for a mind blowing future alteration bit at the end, but there is no mention of it at all. If Freya did change the past, shouldn’t the future have a different storyline at the end? The end was a bit hasty. In general a good story, interesting characters in different timelines.

touching Murder, magick, curses - Freya a feisty 21st century woman deems all those things superstitious nonsense until she is swept through time. Culan has suffered many losses due to his family members´betrayals and to protect himself and others from harm decided to forfeit love for the rest of his life. My heart melted reading about how a headstrong woman from the future and a lonely man from her past found true love and saved each other. I’m not one to read time travel, but this sounded interesting. The premise was very good, and I loved the dog theme. I felt like Cúlan’s reaction to her story was a bit underwhelming. Freya tells him she is from the future and he doesn’t even bat an eye? His mother was outright evil and I felt sorry for Belial. A good story, but had some define holes in it, maybe because it was so short and didn’t have enough time to real develop the story better. First time reading this author, I will read her again
A lovely magical tale. I love historical time travel stories the marriage of the current and the past fascinates me. This is a very good story with really awesome characters. What I really liked was how engaging it was the author did a super job of making this one a page turner. This is a book I will recommend to my friends hope you check it out. I did receive a free copy of this book from Hidden Gems and voluntarily chose to review it.
This book gripped me from the start. A fascinating story with beautiful characters. It has a few typos, but nothing major. A young woman with a successful career goes to Scotland to see if she can help fix a curse, but she falls through a loop in time and falls in love. Can’t wait for the next book in the series.
The characters took a little time to warm to, but I enjoyed the last 30% of the book once Freya and Cúlan got past the suspicion and opened up to each other about her time travel.
I received a free ARC from the author and Hidden Gems; and I am voluntarily leaving an unbiased review.
I enjoyed this book and only wished the extra chapter was about Frieda’s life after she married. After all the things I have read of some of my ancestors it would be nice to be a fly on the wall.
The Bridge Through Time is a twist on the Outlander time travel story. Freya Pfeifer is a dog trainer hired by a Scottish baron to find out why dogs keep jumping off a local bridge. Not all the dogs survive the jump so Freya is determined to solve the mystery and end the needless harm to her favorite animal. The story is well-written for the most part but I did find Freya's jump through the crack in time rather abrupt. I don't want to give away the story but there were other gaps such as a lack of discussion in the baron's household about her disappearance or what the consequences to her modern day life might be if she decided not to return to her own time continuum. Needless to say there will be another book.
Overall The Bridge Through Time is a pleasant read for a lazy afternoon.
Another addictive read from KM. This is a standalone book, first in a series. I am looking forward to finding out how the story progresses because this book has it all. Magic, mystery, romance and a little bit of steam tastefully done. The characters are outstanding, relatable and loveable. Highly recommended. Freya Pfeiffer ( a real modern Miss) walks back in time to solve the secret of Overtoun Bridge. Lucky for her that she does, because Laird Culan needs her to solve his own dark secrets.
She specializes in dog behavior. When given the opportunity to uncover a mystery about the bridge she takes it. How was she to know that it would change everything in her life? Will she regret going? What was the mystery?.
I received a copy of this book from the author. Review voluntarily given.
