Robotman spoofs suburbia, trashes tacky TV shows and offers absurdist commentary on everything from hosing down spider monkeys to the latest conspiracy theory. "I've tried to create the comic strip equivalent of 'Monty Python's Flying Circus, '" says Jim Meddick.
Such a clever, inventive and funny cartoonist. In my humble opinion, the best comic strip artist of the last thirty years (and yes, I am aware of Calvin & Hobbes). Unlike Watterson, Jim Meddick hasn't burnt out and started to repeat himself. Amazingly, he still finds a fresh approach everyday, and, as someone who has attempted a daily comic, I know just how impossible that is to do. And he's been at it since the early 80's! I am constantly in a state of awe. Thank you Jim!
Found on an op-shop shelf and immediately recognised one of my favourite strips that the local Murdoch rag had foolishly discontinued near twenty years ago. Upon reading I immediately recognised why I delighted in Robotman so much. Left field, absurdist and light hearted. An absolute gem of a strip, which started to peak about the time of this publication. Right up there with Non-Sequitor and Piranha Club. Now I am catching up with the last 20 years of Monty (Meddick changed the title in 2001) on gocomics.com, I am glad this book reminded me of what was missing.
