A marvelous work of scholarship that is sure to be helpful to anyone willing to put in the work.
Should you read this book? I see two target audiences: (1) Those who want a deep understanding of each eschatological position and are willing to dedicate the time to read through 600 pages of dense material, and (2) Those who want a reference book for the various views of specific passages of Revelation. For either audience, I’d highly recommend this book.
I’ve long struggled to distinguish between some of the eschatological positions, but this book so articulately and clearly defines them and so thoroughly explores, them, that by the time you’re 1/3 through the book, you can practically predict what each position will say about a given passage. Further, it’s genuinely helped me solidify my own position.
Gregg stays fairly objective (except when occasionally poking fun at Hal Lindsey) and genuinely presents the best case for each position without withholding the weaknesses of each argument.
This was a very enlightening read about different interpretations of the Book of Revelation. I'm very familiar with the futurist view, but it was nice to gain a little understanding about Preterism, Historicist, and Idealist views. If you have an interest to learn more about this topic, this book is a fantastic resource.
