A 37,000 Word Novella of the Soul-Linked Saga: When she was just twenty years old, Berta Simms had her life stolen from her. Kidnapped, stashed away in a lonely desert prison without even her reptilian captors for company, and forced because of her unique genetic heritage to bear a grotesque alien child, she is now in her eighties and bears deep and seemingly indelible scars on her body and on her heart. Then, miraculously, Berta is rescued from her desolate exile and brought to the idyllic planet of Jasan. There, she begins to find healing and a productive purpose to occupy her few remaining years, and is content, but not happy.
Suddenly, Berta’s life is turned upside down once again when she discovers that, despite her advanced age, she is the Arima, destined soul mate, of the Falcoran brothers, a set of strikingly handsome and oh, so very sexy, triplets who shape-shift into enormous birds of prey. Joining with the Falcorans brings the promise of fulfilling her scarcely acknowledged dreams of love, restored youth, and incandescent passion, but also seems to embody her deepest fears of intimacy, being under the control of males, and having to face her long denied sexuality. Which will she pick? What will be Berta’s Choice?
Berta’s Choice is a 37,000 word novella from Laura Jo Phillips, the Amazon best-selling author of the “Soul-Linked Saga” which now extends to five full-length novels, and the “Orbs of Rathira” Trilogy, the first volume of which is now in print. While a continuation of the “Soul-Linked” story for its many thousands of fans, Berta’s Choice is also enjoyable as a stand-alone story for those who are new to Ms. Phillips’ work. Even presented in this shorter form, Berta’s Choice fully manifests the imagination, creativity, emotional insight, and soul-fired passion that has marked her earlier works. It is a treat for established fans and a delightful entre for new readers.
Laura Jo Phillips is the Amazon best selling author of the genre-busting "Soul-Linked Saga" series of Fantasy/Romance/Adult/Science Fiction novels, and of the "Orbs of Rathira" trilogy, the the first volume of which was released in August 2012.
First thing first: this is book 6 part A. You need to read this before reading the Valpirians!
I eagerly awaited reading this because I wanted to know Bertas story. I have loved the entire series so far, and love the new direction the books have taken. I’m just sorry it took me so long to find them x
This is a short story that packs a lot into it. The young Falcoran male set has scented their Arima. Arima Aisling and her friend Karma tell them where they can find her with a caution the her health is not good and her age.
The Falcoran's in their youth and excitement had disregarded common courtesy when they appeared at the Gryphon Consul's home. They vow to do better, and present themselves to the Bearen's home at dawn.
Berta is shocked and angry to learn she is an Arima. She is finally free and feels safe for the first time in sixty years. While the Falcoran brothers are shocked by Berta's appearance they were prepared for it. After a honest conversion with Berta they agreed to give her time.
Being around the mated clan males and how happy their Arima's are gives Berta the courage to accept the healers offer to "cure" her ageing and allow her male set to court her.
I loved this story. I loved that Berta's men were young and just making their way in the world. I fast paced and sweet story, with a nice set up for the next book.
I loved this book, I thought if it had been bigger it was better because surely had story to do it. I liked Berta since she appeared in The Soul-Linked Saga and I thought she had a very sad life, but when I saw this book I was very happy because she also deserved a little happiness. :)
I must admit that when I saw Berta having her own book, I was doubtful because she was an elderly lady with three men in pursuit of her. Thankfully, I was surprised at the outcome.
