Ambition can be a bitch.

Sisters Lilly and Kinsley Day have been inseparable ever since their parents died in a tragic car accident. To survive the hard-hearted social care system, they needed and protected each other, determined to one day make good on their dreams for a better life.

Now it’s all paying off. Larger-than-life Lilly is a cultural phenomenon. She’s a best-selling novelist with fame and fortune. Integral to her sister’s success, the more reserved Kinsley is happy to take care of everything behind the scenes—as unscrupulous as they sometimes are. Together the sisters navigate a glittery world of five-star hotel suites, media appearances, and blocks-long lines of admirers—a far cry from the cold, roach-infested apartment of their shared past. Their lives are so intertwined, it’s hard to know where one ends and the other begins.

But fame comes with a price. As one’s success grows, it becomes more and more difficult to discern who’s controlling who, and why. Dark secrets begin to unravel. And for one of them, it’s the last chapter.

How much would you sacrifice for someone you love?

S. E. Green is the award-winning and best-selling author of young adult and adult books. She grew up in Tennessee where she dreaded all things reading and writing. She didn’t even read her first book for enjoyment until she was twenty-five. After that, she was hooked! When she’s not writing, she's usually traveling or hanging out with a rogue armadillo that frequents her backyard.

This was a bit of an odd duck. I know that usually applies to a person, but I'm going to persist using it out context here. Anyone wonder where that expression came from? Anyway, this was my first SE Green story. The premise was really unique, but everything felt very unrefined. The tragedy of Lilly and Kinsley's parents dying and its lasting impact on the sisters, the growing psychoses of each woman, the oversexualized and aggressive behaviors and manipulation tactics, and the overall purpose of the book all seemed extremely underdeveloped. More focus was put on the moment-to-moment conversations between the sisters, but nothing expanded beyond that or brought any of the plot points full circle. Combine that with the constantly shifting, and at times very confusing, POVs from first to second person, the nonstop jumping to past years back to present, and it all just became lost in itself. In a nutshell, the book never found its flow and that made all of the good things that were created lose their impact. Now I think the plot and characters were dynamite, but none of it came together, and even the ending just felt very abrupt and unfinished. The content was good, but this really needed some additional editing to make it more palatable for the reader.

One of my favourite authors is S.E Green, I love both her books under SE Green and Shannon Greenland. Whenever I see a new one, it is always a must-read. Sister, Sister introduces us to sisters Lily and Kinsley Day. Lily is the oldest and is a best-selling author whilst Kinsley is in her shadow as the assistant. The two sisters lost their parents at a young age and lived through foster care. As they got older, Lily always liked to be the best and Kinsley in her shadow. Kinsley was destined to be an amazing author, yet it was Lily who wanted it to be her dream and when Lily wasn't able to make it a reality, then Kinsley stepped up and wrote for Lily. When Kinsley started dating Asher, she fell hard for him but then of course Lily wanted him and sadly what Lily wants, she gets. Kinsley has always been there for Lily but now is Kinsley happy still being in the shadows or is Lily ready to break free from Kinsley and become her person? As someone who is a sister myself, I did find this an intriguing psychological thriller as it shows an intense relationship between sisters. Fame comes with a hefty price and what happens when one is ready to walk away but the other doesn't?

I received this book as an ARC. I am providing my honest review. This book is shelved as a mystery and was the reason why I wanted to read it. However, while the writing was good, there was very little mystery. The main twist plot was easily determined early on. There was a twist toward the end of the book, however, there was nothing in the previous material, that really led you to believe that a twist had occurred, unless I had completely missed it. I guess you could say it was more of a reveal. The book is written using the tool of writing about events that occurred in the past and then coming back to the present day. The book was okay, was a short book, and therefore, a quick read. And while memorable, it would not be a book that I would invest time to read over again.

I really enjoyed the premise of this book but it was confusing because the past/present time periods were not well delineated. It revolves around two sisters, Lilly and Kinsley who pretend to be a lot closer than they really are! Lilly is a best-selling author whose newest novel is set to become a film and of course she is overjoyed. But there's a secret to her success that is revealed as the sisters must at least pretend to reconcile in light of all the fame surrounding their name. And while the plot is fascinating, I became impatient as I had to keep flipping between time periods. I will continue to read Green as I've enjoyed her other novels.

I read this book because the plot sounded interesting. But, man, I did not know what I was in for! Lilly is NYT best seller with one of her book to film adaptions up for an Oscar. Kensley is her "assistant" They grew up in foster and group homes and really turned their lives around. But did they really??? I really had no idea how this story was going to go and it kept me hook! I couldn't put it down.

What a dysfunctional family. While I enjoyed the story, I struggled with how to rate it and what to say in this review. At times it was confusing to me. I had to pay close attention to the timeline between past and present though the author did a good job flipping between the two. Twist and turns I didn’t see coming with a shocking ending. I was hooked and couldn’t put it down. I kept thinking “What did I just read?”

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advance copy of this book.

I knew I had to read this once I discovered it was about an author and her family. I was thrilled to peek behind the curtain and see how a famous author became successful. Skillfully weaving the past with the present, we see how much Kinsley has sacrificed for Lilly, and how spoiled Lilly is. And then the story slowly reveals another layer. The final revelations were an absolute shocker to me. I'm off to pick up the next S.E. Green book!

Short but sweet novella. Lilly and Kinsley have been inseparable since the death of their parents. Lilly's dream has always been to be a world renowned author. Kinsley seems content to be the behind the scenes trouble shooter for Lilly and her two teenage daughters. Everything is going well, all Lilly's books are instant best sellers and everyone is happy. But are they? Back and forth timelines start to show cracks in the relationships. Very good quick read.

I wanted to rate this book higher. It has a great premise with a great final twist. I enjoyed the alternating present and past timelines, and there was plenty of suspense. Lily was selfish, and Kinsley sacrificed a lot. I felt the plot and character development were lacking. It needed more character depth and descriptive detail. It had the potential to be a five-star read because nothing in particular was bad, just underdeveloped. Three stars.

Thank you to HiddenGems, SEG Publishing, and S.E. Green for giving me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

So I went into this book completely blind and not knowing what at all to expect and I was not disappointed at all!

I read this book cover to cover in one sitting. It’s the perfect quick read at only 116 pages.

It kept me wanting more. It was so so so easy to get into this story right away. And as a sister with a sister, I can def say that I was able to relate to Lilly and Kinsley.

This book has me craving more from S.E. Green. I cannot wait to read more of her books!

Suspenseful

A good book, however it did not grab my attention and hold my interest at first. About midway through I was intrigued. The book ended on a surprising twist. Definitely a good read.

My first S.E. Green book. I read it in only a few hours. It was non-stop. Twists I didn't see coming. Just wow. I've added her other books to my TBR. This book was shorter but it packed a punch.

This was a story regarding the love\ hate relationship between two sisters. It was a quick read. It was a bit predictable but still a good story.

Wee bit too easy to second guess though the abuse of Lilly by Kinsey was unexpected and ending was a twist I didn’t quite expect

Quick, easy read. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed the plot and it was a twisty, good ending, though I wish more time and detail was given to the ending.

Compelling story of two sisters in an unhealthy synergistic relationship that can only end badly. Definitely kept me interested till the end.
