Jeff Masterson is a cynical businessman. He has no time for love and no time for women except in the bedroom. Lisa Smith is vulnerable when her long term boyfriend dumps her for a man. She felt an instant attraction to Jeff but working in The Clover Leaf Café, she had heard of his reputation as a one night stand man and agrees to go off with Jeff but it will only be one night. What she does not count on though is the flood of feelings that night releases in her. She can’t seem to get Jeff out of her mind. She knows she is just another one night stand but the way Jeff keeps coming at her, she is beginning to think he might see her as more. But she’s not sure she is ready to trust again so soon.
...don't mind the hero being a serial one night stand type of guy. ...like tragic backstory. ...can appreciate a lady who decides she wants a one night stand and goes for it. ...want a happy for now ending.
I read this as part of the Hearts Aflame collection which I grabbed in order to check out the author. I liked all four books and plan to read the rest of each series. I think I may have found another author to add to my must read list.
Out of the four books featured in Hearts Aflame, this was my favorite. I liked the way the romance bloomed quickly, but both Lisa and Jeff were reluctant to commit at first due to being hurt in the past. Normally, this requires a certain amount of suspending disbelief on my part in order to accept the quick fall into a forever kind of love. The way it was handled in this book didn't require that at all. The characters were very real to me, and it was easy to love them both.
I loved Lisa's insecurity after being dumped by her boyfriend and could totally relate to her wanting just a one night stand to restore her self esteem and prove to herself the jerk who left her was the one losing out. She no more expected Jeff to capture her heart than he expected her to capture his. It was just a great example of how love finds you when you stop looking for it! I'll definitely be falling asleep with a smile on my face after reading this book.
Guess you get what you pay for. And since these last four "books" were free I don't feel like I wasted my money. This author writes well and there were only a couple editing errors. I would have liked the book to have been a developed story and not just the outline.
Good story I think I will read more of Melissa's books. She keeps leaving me wanting to read a lot more of her books even if the wording is not absolute right, I still enjoy the great plots.
