Carina is a fantasy novelist who has a love for magic, science and strong heroes. She always looks to dive beneath the layers of a character, and find what makes them tick, as well as bringing on the action and make imaginations run wild.

Being born and raised in Norway, she has a passion for nature and legends, more of which she found when living in Scotland. Now residing in Gold Coast, Australia, and when she isn't writing, she works full time as a development manager for renewable energy projects, while also running her own tech startup, Aevi Tech, supporting herself and her fluff ball, Brady the Australian Shepherd. You know it's gonna be a good book when the main male lead is a snarky, BOOKNERD, magic wielding badass, who's obsessed with all things Fantasy!! YES he's a big fan of Harry Potter, Marvel, Avengers, and LOTR (like me🥰)!! This nerd gas all of my love now!

Grey never imagined that a normal jog outside his simple home would shake his peaceful quiet life and flip his world upside down. He found himself abducted by strangers with a body that doesn't look like a human one at all! (I'll stop here so I don't spoil the fun that follows!)

Flames of Eader is such a light hearted and fast paced Urban Fantasy story with elements of time-travel, shape shifting, different cultures, a heart breaking quest, great blend of modern & mythical worlds. and a GOOD HEARTED characters who are willing to put their lives at stake for what they believe is right for their planet.

And this was the most important part for me. That even during the most opposing circumstances, they haven't strayed from their path, never doubted what it is they need to do, never hesitated to stand up for a friend who needs help.

From the first page to the final one, i was enthralled in an adventure that will take you to the farthest lands. Love the writing style filled with EPIC FANTASY references that made me LAUGH out LOUD several times in public! And I genuinely had the best of my time with these characters.

Thank you so much @flamesofeader for gifting me a copy! I'm obsessed with your Grey now🥰

Congratulations to the author Carina Steinbakk for writing a wonderful book which will not only keep you hooked till the last page, but also force you towards deep thinking. Though the discussion of the story line in such a book where many surprises are waiting after turning the pages , I personally don't like. As it destroys the author's effort and spoiler is never a great experience for me. However the storyline encounters a diverse cast of characters including warriors, fairies, and shadows. The author skillfully explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and the struggle between light and darkness, as Grey grapples with uncovering the truth about his past, present, and future.

The storyline unfolds at a well-balanced pace, allowing both moments of introspection and thrilling action to seamlessly coexist. Steinbakk's use of lucid language further enhances the reading experience, making even the most fantastical elements feel accessible and engaging. This masterful combination of elements ensures that readers are drawn into the world of the book, making "Flames of Eader" a truly immersive and captivating literary journey.

Every character in the story holds its individual importance and supports the story line to build stronger impact on the readers . However, Grey is the protagonist of the story. He is a recluse nerd who feels powerless and useless. He is on a journey to understand his powers and save the Eader from the growing Darkness. Grey is resourceful, clever, and determined to find his place in the world of heroes. At the same time Landon is a friend of Grey's who goes through a transformation after her father's death. She becomes guarded and sad, avoiding everyone. Landon plays a significant role in Grey's journey.

This is a novel that holds a special place in the hearts of fantasy enthusiasts. The protagonist's captivating journey and the intricate interplay between light and darkness create a mesmerizing tapestry that is sure to captivate readers.
As a fervent fantasy lover, I wholeheartedly recommend "Flames of Eader" to fellow enthusiasts and anyone seeking a spellbinding adventure that ignites the imagination and leaves a lasting impression.

The thrilling reading experience provided by Flames of Eader will leave readers wanting more.

Grey, An introverted man just like me who enjoys solitude, serenity, and video games is the focus of this story. One day, however, he makes the unforeseen decision to go for a walk alone in the woods. He had no inkling how his unassuming action would alter the course of his entire life. He was thrust into a secretive border area full with hidden dangers. He discovered himself swinging between brightness and gloom. In this captivating tale, the author deftly blends mystery, self-discovery, and imagination.

The truths about Grey's history, present, and future are not what he had previously believed, as he learns as he navigates this strange reality. He needs to discover who he really is and use his newly discovered abilities to defend the forces of light against the darkening influence of warriors, fairies, and shadows. Grey's metamorphosis from a reclusive gamer to a hesitant hero is both convincing and motivating. Readers see his development, vulnerability, and tenacity as he wrestles with his fate.

This intriguing fantasy book, written by Carina Steinbakk, delves deep into themes of identity, fate, and the strength of self-acceptance. Moments of reflection and exhilarating action are smoothly able to coexist as the plot develops at a well-balanced speed. and the only thing battling the gloom is resilience.

The author develops a brand-new universe filled with magic and mysticism, and the world-building is superb. This book is thrilling to read since it has a compelling plot, superb writing, some endearing characters, and a vividly imagined universe. This fantastic book will not only keep you interested until the very end but also compel you to engage in in-depth thought.

I personally love these kinds of books where the protagonist becomes an inspiration for the readers. I think all readers, especially fantasy lovers, would love this book for sure.

Review :
"It is about life. It is about death. And the shadows that walk between. We live on Earth, and it's magic itself." - this is the way the book starts and the very prologue remembering the value of earth and how we're destroying it and all in a very humorous way. So for a moment I thought it was nonfiction.

But then we get the introduction of our protagonist Grey, our protagonist loves peace and quiet. But one day he decides to take a walk in the woods. While walking into the woods he comes into a clearing and suddenly hears the words - “Grey, we are waiting for you.”

And his new journey begins. And with some known and unknown personalities he finds himself in Eader. And into the war between light and darkness

I absolutely like the writing style of the author. Which makes the story more fun and interesting. As well as this magical world, Eader.

Grey's character development is also interesting to follow. The story is told mostly through Grey's pov but we also get other characters'perspectives.

The overall book is an enjoyable read, with lots of mystery, talks of darkness, light, hope, the dual nature of humans, and the world serving as a defense against darkness theme, a good time for any fantasy, adventure reader.

I'm still pretty new to this genre - fantasy, but I'm enjoying it more and more. I truly enjoyed this book by Carina Steinbakk too, even though it took me a little while to get into it. I think I would have been less confused in the beginning if I had read more pages in one sitting. Once I got into it, I loved it.
There are quite a lot of characters, but still not too many to confuse me. I liked the characters and their developement, and especially the protagonist, Grey. Maybe I like him so much because he loves books, is an introvert and uses sarcasm and humor as a defense mechasnism much like myself. I have to admit that if the author hadn't given us an idea of his age, I would have thought he was a lot younger. Especially in the beginning.
It's a book that feels right reading now that the world feels like it's just chaos and that there's a lot of darkness. There are fights between light and dark, good and evil, and it gives us hope.
For those who likes a little romance, don't worry. It's there

A story of found family, forgotten memories and loved ones threatened steeped in fantasy.

Set in modern times, the MMC Grey, is unexpectedly transported to a different realm, Eader.

Encapsulating earth, Eader provides a buffer, protecting and filtering the “dark” from entering the atmosphere, sending “light” and positivity instead. Eader is however under threat. Grey finds his quiet, unsuspecting gaming life turned upside down when he is faced with his forgotten past.

Filled with a beautiful mixed cultural background, the world of Eader and town of Manawa is skilfully built. The academy where Grey learns to hone his gifted talents is intriguing.

Grey’s personality is sarcastic, witty and at times immature. With the responsibility of helping save Eader, and ultimately Earth, we see him grow and gain respect from his friends and colleagues.

A beautiful tale of strength, vengeance, faith and trust.

This beautiful book was kindly gifted to me. However, my review is not influenced and are my own independent thoughts

This book was chaos in the best possible way! I devoured it in a day, but needed a couple of days to process what I had read.
The worldbuilding was a bit heavy, but once I got the hang of it, I was invested in the story. There are a lot of information in this book, so you need to be focused in order to understand it.
This is a story unlike anything else I've read and I loved it! The characters were well written and the plot amazing!
I loved the relationship between Grey and Darby and I can't wait to see what happens in the sequel.

It's got magic, darkness, a fight against the clock, dual POV's set in our world and it all worked so well together!

Carina, thank you for gifting me your book🧡
I still think about it and I probably will until I have book 2 in my hands🧡

Flames of Eader is a fantasy adventure taking the readers on a spellbinding voyage of a whole new magical world. Combining fantasy and adventure, the story is an adventure which you don’t want to miss.

The story revolves around Grey, a reclusive introvert who prefers the company of his video games. His world changes forever, when one day he decides to go for a walk in the woods and is abducted and taken to magical realm of Eader, a realm that shields the Earth. He discovers that not only he has magical powers but that the world of Eader is in peril from the growing darkness. Now grey needs to discover his true self and his new powers. Can grey defend Eader against darkness?

The story is about the eternal conflict between good & evil; between light and darkness but told in a totally refreshing manner. The darkness is a symbol of rising religious extremism, terrorism and political apathy which is engulfing our world. The light of hope and resilience is the only thing fighting the darkness. The world building is exceptional as the author creates a whole new world full of magic and mysticism. The story is full of twists and turns as Grey finds himself facing increasingly difficult challenges.

The characters are well crafted including Grey,Lay, Cox, Callan, Darby, Lizzie.I liked the interaction between Grey and Callan; Grey's mentor on Eader. I also loved Grey's bonding with Darby which was charming. Readers will be able to relate to Grey as he faces new challenges in a totally new realm with warriors and shadows. We experience Grey's characters evolving over the course of the book as he goes through a self-discovery of his hidden powers. The writing is fast paced and the story keeps you surprising with new twists making it a great read.

Overall, Flames of Eader is an excellent fantasy adventure that the fans of the fantasy genre will enjoy reading. With a strong plot, excellent writing and some memorable characters and world building, this book is an exciting read.

I know that a book should not be judged by its cover but when I first saw this eye catchy book cover, I could not resist myself from picking this book up to read it. Once I started to read it, I realized that this book is a real page Turner.

Author Carina Steinbakk has done an excellent job in writing this book. I truly believe that this book is worth everyone's read and that is why I am not giving any spoiler- so let me tell you about the plot and the protagonist of the story very briefly.

The plot is set in a fantasy land - Eader.
The story revolves around Grey O'Shearan who is very introvert. One day he was exploring the woods and finds himself in the magical land of Eader where Magic takes place. Another unique thing takes place here - long forgotten memories get refreshed in this land.
As the world becomes increasingly violent and intolerant, the conflict between Good vs evil or we can say light vs dark arises.
The land of Eader acts as a protective barrier against the forces of Darkness. And Grey must realise his powers to protect this land at any cost.
The story is mostly based on the theme of the conflict between good vs evil but there are other aspects like self realization, identity, magic that added another dimensions to the story.

Undoubtedly my favourite character of this book is Grey as his transformation is amazing shown throughout the story.
Another characters like Callan - the mentor of Grey in Eader, Landon - Grey's friend who has a significant role in the story- are also very important to make this book engaging to the readers.

The beautiful writing style of the author make the readers visualise the scenes that are described in this book. If I have to talk about the language of the book then I must say that the language is very lucid and easily understandable.

From the engaging story line to the well developed characters —everything of this book is perfect.
I had an amazing time reading this book and it is highly recommended from my side.

Away from the world that we all live in, there exists Eader! Amidst the green zone where the temperature is enough to save water from getting boiled or freezing to solid, in other words, where life flourishes… Eader is yet another unusually dimensional space where a balance for the peaceful existence of lightness and darkness of both Earth and Eader is taken care of. The readers are brought to the knowledge of this mystical place through the story of Grey.

Grey, whose usual routine is occupied and entertained by tech, games, books, and stories, unexpectedly chooses to go for a jog outside but ends up getting abducted. He wakes up in Eader where he gets to realize he is not even properly human. Moreover, the whole 'how' and 'why' of his existence comes in front of him. Hence, this is the story of Grey, who discovers himself and learns to effectively play his role as a Fior, in protecting our and their world from the darkness meanwhile bestowing equals of lightness within the realms. The author has done an amazing job while intertwining the concepts of science, magic, and mysticism which act as a backbone for the progress of the story and of course, making the climax a little predictable.

However, the wonderful writing style of this book is more appreciable when it comes to stating the reasons one should pick this book. It shares a style of vivid imagination in terms of words, of course, and includes lots and lots of details. Such descriptive writing sometimes makes this read a little monotonic, which is why readers who focus more on elements like detailing, world-building, and character development and their vivid imagination, on a very minute level, are recommended to pick this book since the storyline, being very slow paced and obvious might not sound very appealing to all.

The gripping fantasy book Flames of Eader transports readers to several realms while exploring the harmony between light and darkness and the effects of their unbalance.

Grey O'Shearan, an earthbound recluse and introvert, is the protagonist of the tale. The magical realm of Eader, which serves as a barrier against the Darkness, is eroding as the world is increasingly overtaken by violence, terrorism, and hatred. Unexpectedly, Grey finds himself in Eader, and the reason for this turns out to be a major plot element.

The book explores Grey's place and function in this conflict as he is continuously drawn into the war between light and darkness. Grey finds it difficult to trust the people he meets in Eader since he likes seclusion and avoids social interaction. Grey's objective becomes obvious as the struggle between light and darkness intensifies: he must save Eader and, in doing so, defend Earth.

Readers are drawn into a complicated universe with magical components and extensive lore as the author spins a gripping and intriguing tale. The idea of a world serving as a defense against darkness makes for an intriguing background for the narrative since it allows for the examination of concepts like hope, resiliency, and the dual nature of human nature.

Character development is one of Flames of Eader's advantages. The development of Grey O'Shearan from a solitary nerd to a brave hero is realistic and well-done. His internal conflicts—both with regard to his own anxieties and his sense of duty toward helping Eader—give his character dimension and improve the story as a whole.

Flames of Eader is an enjoyable read that will appeal to fans of fantasy and adventure. It explores relevant themes within an imaginative and magical setting, creating a unique and immersive experience for readers.

I received a free copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

Flames of Eader is a whimsical urban fantasy with a lot of references to pop culture and real-world issues embedded in the story. I loved how the author wove in reflections of our world's problems with things like climate change and the growing societal divide and negativity into elements of the story. I think this book is a great book for high school classrooms.

Grey is a loner who works from home, but on a whim decides to go for a jog. As he enters a clearing in the woods, he is suddenly kidnapped by strangers and transported to Eader, the magic barrier between Earth and the darkness. Grey learns Eader is growing weaker as darkness begins winning the battle of dark versus light. He also learns of the role he is destined to play in saving Eader, and thus, the world.

Grey's life on Earth had been full of hardship and he never felt like he belonged. The events that shaped his life start to make since as he learns about the ties to Eader he didn't know he had. Grey is definitely the reluctant hero, but he rises to the occasion when his friends and the world need him most.

This story had a lot of fantasy elements like fairies, magic, warriors, enchanted items, and deadly creatures. It also had a lot of fun and really funny references to pop culture from the early nineties and 2000's. Everything from Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, to Star Wars, music references like Bon Jovi. I found myself laughing out loud at least once every chapter. Grey's character is snarky and sarcastic, and he really just wants to go home and play video games. He has no interest in becoming a hero and saving the word, and everyone knows it.

This book was fun and exciting, and I highly recommend it to fans of urban fantasy.

Honestly, I almost didn't even read the story after the main character bashed the president. "...some dumbass being elected president," I don't care who is in office...you just don't do that. Even if he isn't the guy you voted for, he is the leader of our country and treating the president that way is the author's own "Darkness" manifesting, in my opinion.
The political messages in this story are clear, and at times, even the other characters tell the MC to put the brakes on his strong political beliefs. It is the one thing that would keep me from recommending this book to my students. I would not want them (or their parents) to think I was trying to push those views on them.
The story itself is a good one. Negative thoughts and actions on Earth are destroying the worlds and we all need to work to make positive choices. I like that and I think everyone would benefit from buying in to the idea that even a little positivity from each of us can create a change for the better. The author should have left it at that, though.
There are some errors throughout the story that were missed by an editor, but nothing that really detracts from the read. Most are things like, "She lands in front of me, with a sour look on her face, fire in dancing in her eyes."
There are some awesome science references that I'll keep with me as well, "...you could probably hear a quark fall in here."
I really enjoyed the evolution of the main character as he trained and regained memories. It was pretty cool to have a nerdy nobody, with tons of Marvel references to prove the nerdyness, as the MC. The reader grows along with him until he basically evolves back into himself but with more clarity.

Flames of Eader by Carina Steinbakk is blend of magic and reality around its enchanting world. The novel taps into the innate human longing for the extraordinary, offering an exploration of the balance between light and darkness that mirrors our own struggles.

Protagonist Grey O'Shearan's unexpected journey to the realm of Eader lends an air of authenticity to his reluctant hero's odyssey. His relatability adds a layer of vulnerability that drew me into his transformative tale. Other characters are also well developed.

The world building is captivating as Eader emerges as a metaphorical bastion against impending darkness. The vivid descriptions of landscapes immersed me in this magical realm while the story's allegorical elements provoked my thought about real-world issues.

Flames of Eader is more than a mere escapade into fantasy. It's an intriguing voyage and much more. Grey's important role in the battle created an ever-present tension that propelled the story forward, making it impossible to put down.

For those who yearn for the extraordinary and harbor a secret belief in magic, this novel delivers an absorbing retreat into a world where the boundaries of reality are stretched. Embark on this enthralling adventure alongside Grey.

As a lover of fantasy, I enjoyed that in Flames of Eader it was an adult discovering that they are extraordinary instead of a kid. Grey is in his twenties when he discovers his abilities, and his interaction with other magical beings and the world of Eader is refreshing to explore in the head of an adult. The classic battle of light vs dark is more meaningful in the POV of someone who has some life experience under their belt.
From the first page I was hooked by the witty writing and inner monologue of the POV characters' thoughts. The pop culture references had me laughing every chapter!
I appreciate the way Carina dealt with the bigger themes of the story. I found myself finishing a chapter where the POV character had a revelation and just savoring the writing for a moment before moving forward.
The ending was satisfying but left me wanting more. I can’t wait to read the next book in this series!
If you loved Harry Potter or Percy Jackson and are interested in an adult navigating the world of newfound magic powers, you will love Flames of Eader. I also recommend this book to people, like me, who are feeling a bit down about the state of the world. You will have a great time reading the book and leave feeling a little more hopeful than when you started.

🥀Omg, what a book! I’m a sucker for good fantasy and I had to try this one, the storyline revolves around Grey who is living a pretty normal and boring life until one day Grey ends up in a place from where everything starts to turn upside down!

The way Grey discovers his identity and goes through all the realisation process, I guess that was the most moving and impactful part as it has a lot of self reflections and as a reader the book really made me think a lot of things parallel!

It’s fun, interesting and full of adventure, the themes of self discovery blended with magic and adventure and action makes it more fun to read!

I was glued throughout especially the book gets interesting once Grey gets out of the box he has kept himself in!

In the same way, I felt the book is way more than just a fantasy tale, I actually got to learn a lot from it!

I really had fun with it! It felt like a powerful movie or a favourite episode of a series! It also made me believe that how unpredictable life is and how living every moment is so important because we don’t know what’s packed up for tomorrow!

Surely a book with so much to cherish and take forward!

Flames of Eader was one of a kind experience for me. As someone who reads fiction wholeheartedly, this book became one of my favourites.

Eader is the realm that defends light from darkness(hatred, terrorism etc) and Grey is in the centre of all of this and he defends earth from darkness.

The story is based around Grey who is an introvert and has certain notions about himself. On one unusual occasion he decides to stroll around the forest where he lands himself in Eader. After this point, he embraces new dangers and adventures which reshape his idea of himself and people around him.

We have to put emphasis on the fact that Grey is introvert like most of the young generation nowadays. Imagine someone introvert who doesn't trust people around him finds himself in this critical situation to save everything from darkness where he has to interact and trust strangers he meets in a completely new reality. This thought completely hooked me up with the book and i felt like it was written for me.

The writing style of the author is commendable, her ability to visualise the environment with her words left me in awe. I would recommend it to anyone who loves fiction.

Flames of Eader, by @carinasteinbakk 🔥

This was a great read, and I was sucked into the magic of the story. It had a little slow start, but as the story progress from the first 50-100 pages it really got filled with action filled scenes and major revelations.❤️
I really like the depth in the story, where Carina brings some huge themes into the story.
I also enjoyed how the story is built up.
How she has included a main character that is a stereotype you don’t read about to often.
A little nerdy, very introvert who is not too fan of people in general 😉
Good themes connected to environment, found family, friendship, magic academy

The MC Grey is mostly home playing video games, listening to music or other lonesome activities.
One day his world is turned upside down when he is kidnapped when he is out walking the forest.
He is taken to Eader - the place in between all.
Where he has a role in a war he didn’t even know existed.

The story is dark vs light.
Where the light can be compared to “guardians of the galaxy” protecting earth and its inhabitants.
A super cool magic system, and a whole community connected to the Eader. Connected to how everything is linked together with earth and its existence 😉🤩

The book has great humor with many good references to every day movies, music and events. Really enjoyed a good laugh throughout the story 😉
And when the author quotes Supernatural, it has won the way to my heart 😜❤️

Carinas story shows both sides of humanity, not good or bad, but the grey 😉
A very good saying from the book. To change the impression that people only cause pain - look at it from another angle:
- People always have potential

All in all a great book by Carina. A Norwegian author with a great story to tell!
Can’t wait to see what more you will write.❤️

A refreshing read by an old classmate from school!
I loved all the nerdy referances, both the obvious ones, and the more subtle ones.
The book is full of lovely viewings on life and the challenges it can have, friendship, loneliness and love. And a whole lot of other nerdy stuff I know the author has had a blast writing!
Well done!
